BROSANAN

Image coming soon!

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams

FULL APPEARANCE:
The first thing people tend to notice about Brosanan is that he doesn’t fit well into places. He kind of just lingers… largely. In the corner of the room, he’ll be a massive pillar of society, drawing the gaze like a beaon; sat down at a meal, the chair looks laughably small beneath his behemoth mass, quivering in fear that Brosa might move even slightly. His size and bulk- some say he has a good, solid four feet from shoulder to shoulder- make him stand out.

He has a deeply tanned, brown skin, scarred dark in places: one gash marrs a quarter of his right cheek, another shallow furrow makes tentative forays into the landscape of his forehead. Brosa has a large, round face, though very little fat, and the chiseled jaw and cheek bones are noticeable, a testament to his fitness and good health. A large, squishy nose no longer sits quite straight, broken once and never properly reset. A pleasant enough smile is worn upon thin, pink lips, though easily replaced by a scowl or a sneer if his anger is summoned. Cloudy grey eyes peer from beneath shadowy, bushy ledges, also called eyebrows. His expression is not usually emotive, though he carries a boyish innocence that never seems to fade. What draws the eye is his long, wavy hair, of a deep brown colour, managed in various quick hairstyles for his work. He prefers a well-shaven and well-groomed look.

His clothing style is particular to his old role: he likes armor of the leather variety, and tends to wear it even when off-duty. Plain shirts and work trousers are of monochrome nature, blacks, whites and greys all jostling for pole position. He keeps himself neat- polishing thick boots, pressing white shirts, scrubbing away dirt and stains. He is oddly meticulous when it comes to his overall appearance, is Brosanan.

PERSONALITY

PERSONALITY:
Brosanan may look like a walking boulder with eyes, but the complex layers beneath that tough skin surprise even his nearest and dearest. He is a man of few words, normally. Those that he does utter are chosen carefully and carry a great deal of weight, both in tone and content. Brosa is a deep and guttural man, not above grunting or humphing monosyllabic answers to small talk. His input in conversations increases when he is working, surrounded by friends or companions, or in the midst of a crisis. He has a very cool head on his shoulders, and is quite unflappable for the most part. He takes his time considering every possibility and weigh each outcome, and gives important matters a great deal of thought.

For all of his ponderousness, Brosanan cannot stand to be idle. He is very rarely moved to hatred, but records, and scribework, evoke such passionate rancor within him. He would much rather work leather straps, or scrab pots, or build a chair, if he were given the choice of menial chores. Rote learning and repetition is best learnt whilst running or sparring. He is a physical man, and at his happiest when his thoughts are focused on his hands’ occupation.

Brosanan does have one guilty pleasure at odds with his athletically-inclined disposition: he absolutely loves romantic stories and poetry. He will sneak away from his peers and colleagues when possible, and jot down the latest love ballad on a spare scrap of hide. Stashing it away, he will steal precious moments between duties to peruse and learn every verse (which he will later recite to himself during periods of boredom). Very few have ever caught him reading, and he is extremely reluctant to disclose that side of himself. Brosa finds it deeply embarrassing, but he also loves it- so, so much. The passion, the drama, the exquisite agony of will-they-won’t-they… Now there is a good use of hide! Not that he will ever admit it.

Despite this love affair with love, Brosanan has a track record of unluckiness in the romance department. He yearns so desperately to meet his ‘one-and-only’. He is quite puppy-like in his pursuits: loyal, eager to please, and probably too clingy for his own good. Brosa’s concept of love has been so idealised that he sees his perfect match in every person who holds his gaze, or smiles at him for a couple of seconds. He is all too aware that this behaviour borders on pathetic, and does his utmost to keep his feelings- and actions- in check. Because of his idealism and relentless optimism and hopefulness, he is easily manipulated.

This young man carries a wellspring of affection within his heart. Many mistake his short answers and stony silence for gruffness, but nothing could be further from the truth. He is warm, considerate and charitable. No price is too high to ensure a friend or loved one’s comfort; and whilst he is wary of strangers, a genuine plea for help will never go unanswered. Family means everything to him- which includes his peers from the Ishgardian guards. There is nothing he wouldn’t sacrifice for them, including his life. Foolish? Perhaps, but Brosa places a lot of value on loyalty and honour.

The man might have a few… issues with anger and violence. Brosanan might be slow to rouse, but once provoked, he sees red. He becomes extremely aggressive: an unstoppable fighting machine, using anything available as a weapon and, failing that, resorting to punching and kicking (a sloppy brawling technique in which he has a great deal of confidence). Due to his sheer size and strength, Brosa knows that he is intimidating. He won’t hesitate to stop (or start) fights depending on the circumstance. The easiest way to rile him would be to infer that his sister is anything other than pure and angelic; but you don’t really want to end up in the infirmary, right?

Brosanan tries his best to keep his head down and work hard. He puts a lot of stock by his reputation, and values (too highly, perhaps) the opinions of others. He has little to no interest in politics, finding the games and facades too tedious. He is an honest and gentle soul, and despite his gruff demeanour he takes joy in the simple things in life.

HISTORY
FAMILY:
  • Father: Brodickan {2721 - deceased}
  • Mother: Irasana {2725 - cook}
  • Half-brother: Irokan {2750 - guard}
  • Half-sister: Arasaya {2752 - guard-in-training}
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: One day his princess will come
BIRTHPLACE: Ishgard Hold, a minor Hold beholden to High Reaches Hold

HISTORY:

Ishgard Hold, almost entirely isolated by choice of its Lord Thordan, is a cold and difficult place in which to thrive. It was one of the many Holds that fell victim to Golre’s assaults, and has struggled to recover its losses since then.

Brosanan’s father was one of the many casualties, killed by dragonriders. He has little to no memory of the man, but Irasana, his mother, assures of him two things: Brodickan always tried to do the right thing no matter what, and he inherited his size from her side of the family. The first, at least, has been a guiding principle for most of Brosa’s life.

Irasana never remarried after the death of her husband, but had two more children with a lover-turned-unofficial-partner. Irokan, Brosa’s half-brother, and Arasaya, his half-sister, were both very dear to the boy. He developed inner strength and resilience, driven by a need to protect and feed his family from a young age. Brosanan frequently skipped Harper lessons to learn to fight and hunt with other Holders, including his would-be-stepfather.

At fifteen, he was officially inducted into the Guards, although he had been shadowing them for a few Turns by then.

At sixteen, he was introduced to Aevryme. Rumours spread that he was a the bastard son of the Lord, but Brosa didn’t care one jot either way. Aevryme was quiet and thoughtful and entirely different to the rough and tumble guards around whom Brosa had grown up. Brosanan had been assigned to Aevryme to show him the ropes, but the boy was a brilliant strategist and talented fighter with a sword. Brosa couldn’t help but admire him- an honest sort of affection sprung between them. They learnt from each other, forging a strong and fast friendship. Aevryme even taught him to read and write properly, unknowingly stoking the fires of Brosa’s love for romantic stories and songs.

It came as no surprise to Brosa when Aevryme was promoted to Captain of his own guard at eighteen. Brosa was pleased to serve as his right-hand man, per his request. Aevryme was wise beyond his Turns, and though his company was only small, he inspired each guard with his strong moral compass and firm but fair guiding principles; Brosa wasn’t the only one who admired him.

Though Golre’s reign of terror was long since over, Ishgard Hold was still very isolated. Brosa and the rest of the Guards under Aevryme were given instructions to accompany some of Ishgard’s more influential Crafters and affluent traders to some of the more open and richer Holds, in an effort to encourage and promote trade.

Whilst visiting a minor Hold, both Borsa and Aevryme were Searched. Aevryme wrote to Lord Thordan asking for instructions. They were told to accept; so Brosa, once more, throws himself into an unknown adventure with Aevryme at his side.

What type of candidate is your character: Dragon

What color/s are you willing to impress to?: Any

What color/s does your character want?: Any

Do you/your character have any personality preferences or concerns?:
Brosa would like a dragon who can match his energy and fondness for physical activities.

Personally I would like for him to Impress any dragon- lazy, lovable, roguish… really, I think he’d mesh well with a great deal of personality archetypes. I’d love to see him matched to a personality that is opposite to his own, but I’d equally love to see him matched to a dragon that would allow his best characteristics (passion, compassion and loyalty) to shine. Really open-minded here.

Do you/your character have any other preferences or concerns?:
Nope! =]

Why do you think these choice/s would be a good fit?:
I’m open to any concept or dragon the admins want to throw at Brosa! Really, I just want to see him loved, in the end. <3

Do you have any preferences about the conditions of your character’s impression?:
SACRIFICEEEE.

Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?:
Up to permanent injuries/loss of limb, so long as he is not withdrawn from candidacy due to his injuries (say, he Impresses but loses an arm in the process- that would be fine with me).

Is there anything you will ABSOLUTELY NOT accept?:
Everything is good! I defer to the good judgement of the admins. <3
