HISTORY:
Miranda is the middle daughter of wealthy cotholders in the High Reaches area, and has been a consummate disappointment ever since being born. Her father, an egotistical minor holder, had been expecting a son. This was, of course, the same reaction he had to his older daughter, and in turn was also the reaction he had to the youngest. Miranda was never particularly bothered by it.
She grew up only slightly in the shadow of close-in-age Trintima, who was grace and beauty and everything a spoilt first daughter should be -- but she was also loving and smart, and cared about Miranda in the way that their father didn't. Almasetta was a very typical, traditional woman with views about what women were meant to do and what men were, and mostly groomed her daughters to be highly marriageable. Miranda, who was both book-smart and adventurous, wanted to apprentice as a scribe or a Harper but was never permitted to. While her spare time was still spent reading or talking to people and hunting out local injustices and bringing them to her father (who usually ignored her, but sometimes yielded)
When Miranda was nineteen, Trintima married a minor holder only a few turns her senior. She claimed it was for love as much as familial satisfaction, and Miranda had to believe her as the pair were quite happy -- but attention thent urned onto her for being the next one to marry. Something she was, at least right then, entirely uninterested in doing. She managed to dodge for as long as possible before making a substantial change in her life, and ignoring whether or not her parents had wishes on the topic, put herself foward for the eggs of Whitefall's queen wher.
The gold pushed a large egg toward her, large enough it could have also contained a gold, and suddenly Simon and Almasetta were a little bit pleased with her. At least she could sell those eggs her wher made, surely, even if they didn't want their daughter in the hold guard -- it would work out. But Randask hatched a large, big-footed bronze instead.
