Candidate Senara

Senara
"lyrics or quotes here"

BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Retire Character
NAME: Senara
GENDER: Female
PRONOUNS: She/Her/Hers
ORIENTATION: Pancurious

BIRTHDATE: Late Winter 2762
AGE: 17 as of Early Fall 2770
LOCATION: Fort Weyr
OCCUPATION: Candidate

APPEARANCE
EYES: Gray-Blue
HAIR: Blonde
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5'5", Scrawny
PLAY-BY: (Commissioned Art Piece)
FULL APPEARANCE:
Senara is a scrawny, poorly built thing who seems like she hasn't quite grown into her limbs, which are somewhat knobby. Due to not having enough to eat when she was very young, she's still working on filling out and actually growing despite her age. She is at least showing the starts of signs of success in that regard, with her cheeks not being hollow and no ribs actually showing. Her ultra-straight, long hair comes down past her hips, and is relatively well taken care of for how thin it is, and is often pulled back at approximately shoulder-height with a single tie.

Despite her slightly-too-skinny appearance she bears no actual scars and holds up well enough during training and other sorts of strenuous activities. She prefers to wear things with long sleeves or legs to hide her gangly limbs, despite what the temperature might be outside. She cowers slightly when she stands, and has a habit of not making eye contact with anyone.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Senara begins every potential relationship with the exact same outlook: suspicion and fear. She knows there are good people out there, but it doesn't feel like she's ever met any of them. She wants only to belong and be safe, and is not fully convinced that anyone will actually ever let her. If and when she ever gets over her initial reactions, she's incredibly kind, loyal, and protective. She fiercely guards her small hoard of people.

She blushes incredibly easily and gets easily embarrassed when people actually catch her having fun. She hates to make eye contact. Being around so many people is still a bit strange for her, but she loves to sit and listen to people talk even if she doesn’t participate very much herself. She doesn’t talk about the past beyond being rescued by Misoko unless she absolutely must.

HISTORY
FAMILY: Misoko (Favorite Person)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A (Misoko? She might have a crush.)
BIRTHPLACE: ??
HISTORY: TW: Abuse, Bullying, Neglect
Senara doesn't know exactly where she was born, or even really when: all the kids in her house celebrated the same birthday. She grew up in a sort of creche inside of a Holdless encampment to the northwest of Fort Weyr, in the woodlands nearing the coast. Abandoned and unwanted children were brought there to be raised, and Senara was one of a half-dozen children that found herself in the home.

The caretakers tried. They really did, considering they were Holdless themselves. They made sure everyone was at least given food, had clothing and a roof over their head, and did their best for starting what little education they could - mostly just letters and numbers. It was the other children that were horrible. The weak were picked on, their resources taken by the strong; and Senara was one of the weak.

She did not go a meal without some or most of her food being taken away. If she got a new hand-me-down, it was subsequently torn or repurposed for one of the other kids. No toys ever found their way into her hands. They would pull her hair, or call her names, knock her down; force her to do their chores in addition to her own. The caretakers were ignorant, willfully or otherwise, and worse things happened if she complained to them. So she endured, as long as she could.

Eventually, however, she reached the breaking point where she realized that things simply never were going to get better as long as she stayed there. None of the kids who grew up there ever actually left the encampment… alive (unsheltered threadfall is a terrifying thing)... and she had the strongest suspicion that things could get even worse for her as an adult. She garnered what courage she could, stole a pack and as many supplies as she could carry, and left in the dead of night.

Except she had no idea where she was going. It wasn’t like she had been schooled in cartography and maps, or even the surrounding area. She had no idea where she was going to go.. but, sometimes she saw dragons in the sky to the South. So South was more likely to be safe.

She lost track of the days. Worry at being caught out in a threadfall began to grow, and her supplies continued to dwindle. She made it to the slopes approaching the mountain ranges, since rocks couldn’t be eaten by thread, and if a threadfall DID happen she might find shelter there. Maybe. Still, there had been no signs of people, no wings overhead, no caravans. Had she left just to fail utterly on her own? If she didn’t find help soon, she was going to run completely out of supplies, and she certainly couldn’t hunt or fish or-..

Lost firmly in her own thoughts, she wasn’t watching where she was going as closely as she should have been, and stepped on a loose rock. Loose rock and falling-apart-boot combined majestically into a gross snapping sound, and she shrieked as she went skidding down the slopes. After rolling for what felt like an eternity, she laid there, crying and in pain and staring at the sky as she contemplated her own mortality.

That was when the shadow fell on her. Bigger than life and more purple than the berries that grew in the woodlands, the garnet dragon that came spiralling down from the sky was both the most beautiful and most terrifying thing she’d ever seen in her life; and that was saying something. It landed nearby, the rider on its back sliding out from the straps and rushing over…

Senara didn’t actually remember much of the actual rescue. Only that her leg was only sprained despite how utterly dramatic the snapping sound had been. Still, she couldn’t walk, or tell the dragonrider - Misoko - where she was from in order to have her take her back. She wished she could remember her first time on dragonback more clearly, as they took her to Fort Weyr to join the creche of children - at least while her wounds healed. She found she liked it there, however, and often spent as much time following Misoko around as she could, even if it was just to help carry supplies or deliver a message.

At the closest they could estimate to her being fifteen turns old, at around a full turn after arriving in Fort Weyr, she became a Candidate, hoping to eventually help people like her favorite dragonrider had helped her. Thread was still scary, but she had more experience with it than most, and it was a known danger she could learn to fight. She didn’t take to her classes the best, somewhat intimidated by the other students, but she at least managed to be of middling quality. As of now, she’s been standing for two years, and still awaits her match.

IC Information
What type of candidate is your character: Dragon

What color/s does your character want?: Senara would love a Garnet like Glieseth, but greens are nice too. Bigger dragons can be a little scary.
Does your character have any personality preferences or concerns?: She hopes they don’t turn out like any of the people back at the encampment.
Does your character have any other preferences or concerns?: Not really

OOC Information
What color(s) are you willing for your character to impress to?: Any
Do you have any personality preferences or concerns?: Please be nice to her.
Do you have any other preferences or concerns?: Please be nice to her.
Why do you think these choice/s would be a good fit?: The main idea behind Senny is that most of the bad has already happened and she can only go up from here. I would rather see empowerment and forward growth and shedding of the awful past than tying back to it. It was there, and it was incredibly formative, but it doesn’t have to be as relevant as it was. A mean or abusive dragon would bring her back. That isn’t to say they have to coddle her. I just don’t want her to actively suffer.

Do you have any preferences about the conditions of your character’s impression?: None
Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?: Anything short of death.

Is there anything you will ABSOLUTELY NOT accept?: Would prefer not to age out.

Fren
Image

BASICS
NAME: Fren
BIRTHDATE Late Winter 2768
AGE: 1.5 as of Late Summer 2770

APPEARANCE
COLOR: Green
FULL APPEARANCE: Fren is a tiny little green that comes across as perpetually smug. Her mouth seems to be just a little wider than normal, and her eyes are just slightly pinched, giving the characteristics of a permanent smile. Her snout is what Senara fondly refers to as a “freen green,” brighter than anything she’d ever seen in nature This color extends down to her forelegs, then gradients backwards toward a forest green at her haunches and the end of her wings, then even further to nearly black at the tip of her tail.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Fren loves everything about her person and would never leave her side if she had the choice. Her absolute favorite place is draped over Senara’s shoulder, dangling on either side of it. She sleeps curled up at the back of her neck, and sits in her lap when she eats.

Overall, Fren is a pretty chill firelizard, and is amiable toward everyone she meets, not just Senara. With a little coaxing and acknowledgment from Sen, she’s willing to even take commands from other people. She’s never raised tooth or claw in anger, though she has let her opinion be known if someone makes Senara sad.

It is debatable exactly what Fren’s name was supposed to be, given Senara’s poor grasp of letters when she received her as a gift. It could be a butchering of friend… a reference to the ‘freen green’ that makes up half of her hide… or perhaps even a misspelling of fern. The world may never know.
