Barrow is a middling-tall man who has worked with whers his entire life and looks like it. With arms and a neck as thick around as a small tree trunk and enough other physical bulk to make him seem like a wher himself, Barrow can be an imposing sight. His black hair is usually cut short to his head with no particular care for its appearance, and he constantly sports a layer of stubble.
Barrow has little nicks of scars all over him from wher claws and teeth through the years, but they don’t seem to bother him. He usually wears somewhat thick leathers or padded equipment like he fully intends to end up wrestling with one of the beasties at any given point. He also tends to carry dried jerky with him as treats.

PERSONALITY:
For as much as Barrow can seem physically imposing, he’s a bit of a teddy bear, especially when it comes to whers. While he doesn’t have much use for people and would rather distance himself from them as much as possible, he’ll go out of his way to get to know a new wher and make sure it’s being tended to properly. Children are also acceptable, since they haven’t had a chance to become problematic yet, for the most part. Other wherhandlers are given leniency as they were smart enough to obtain whers, and he doesn’t try to actively avoid them as much as he does others.
Barrow doesn’t have any real standing on the whole traditionalist-versus-progressivist debate, as long as whers are still treated well. He can be a little bit awkward around dragonriders, because while he understands their usefulness, he also doesn’t like the fairly common perceived elitism that goes along with them.
Barrow sometimes forgets how large he is and the concept of things like personal space. In the event he actually gets close to someone, he might… well, get too physically close to them, and be excessively touchy - clapping shoulders, standing too close, and other such things.

Barrow’s childhood was fairly uneventful. He grew up the child of two wherhandlers at the Southern Boll. His parent’s whers were surprisingly tolerant of the small child crawling all over them and wrestling with them like some sort of bizarre bipedal puppy. He apprenticed as soon as he was able to, assisting with chores and oiling and everything he could until his seventeenth birthday, when he was given an egg of his very own.
Barrosk and Barrow were best friends right off the bat. As young wherlings they got into everything together, constant little troublemakers. By the time they graduated, Barrosk had mellowed some, and the two became solid and reliable partners. They remained at the wherhandler lodge assisting in training up and coming apprentices for turns.
Eventually, word reached the Southern Boll that some of the weyrs were running shorthanded in their ground crews, and Barrow and Barrosk departed for Fort Weyr to assist in bolstering their numbers.

- Late Fall 2770 - Immediately upon arriving at Fort Weyr, Barrosk caught Gold Ryosk and sired a clutch of eggs. (Color of the Court Clutch)
