They say good things come in small bundles - Kanollan (Date)

Once caravans started to travel to the Weyr, Kanollan dropped everything and ran to them to purchase himself a fire lizard egg. A little one on his shoulder would be perfect, pretty , functional and perhaps the ladies would like it. Once he bought it, he rushed back to the Weyr and snatched juicy meat scraps from the kitchen.

He sat himself comfortably outside, sitting cross legged resting the egg between his legs. The meat juices dripped down his hands onto the grass and he sighed impatiently. The vendor said it wouldn’t take very long to hatch… did he get sold a dud?

Crack!
He watched, starting to rip the meat into chunks the little one could handle. A large part of the shell fell and he craned down to look closely. The egg seemed empty and dark. Where was the flit? Suddenly, the flit sprung upwards at his face, claws latching onto his face and throwing him backwards with a yelp.

The flit peered down at him. That’s definitely gold right? He took the torn meat and slowly put it near the golden flit. She ate it all up greedily and when full she stayed on his face staring at him between the eyes. He smiled as he impressed her, stroking her fat belly.

“I’ll name you Springth…” he chuckled to himself, “ Seeming they decided to spring right out of that egg eh?”

Springth chipped contently. As if agreeing with her name.
