" The briar and the rose grew up together
Till they could get no higher
And there they twined a true love's knot together
For all love to admire. "

BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Retire
NAME: Kepret
GENDER: Female
PRONOUNS: She/Her/Hers
ORIENTATION: Homosexual

BIRTHDATE: Early Spring 2749
AGE: 21 as of Late Fall 2770
LOCATION: Fort Weyr
OCCUPATION: Rider
WING: Daylight

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Black
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5'6", average
PLAY-BY: Yukiko Amagi (Persona)
FULL APPEARANCE:
Kepret isn't the most distinctive of people; she certainly has a tendency to disappear into a crowd, being of about average height and build. Her black hair is long and straight, almost sleek as though it's constantly wet. Her eyes are round, dark brown with average-length lashes, and her eyebrows are straight and rather on the thin side. She's not especially curvy, and her torso is proportionally a bit long for her height.

She dresses in a rather understated manner, preferring mostly dark colors after a childhood of being told other things looked better on her sister. The one thing that's consistently bright are her headbands, usually red. It was the one color Margaret couldn't really pull off, and so Kepret claimed it for herself. Her clothes are often a little rumpled from not being folded and put away properly. She prefers skirts over pants but, perhaps a little scandalously, prefers them in lengths one might see on a much younger girl, with the hems not quite reaching her ankles.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Kepret isn't the most outgoing of people, and first impressions of her tend to be that she does a pretty good job disappearing into the background of a room. However, she's friendly and cheerful, more than happy to converse so long as other people start it. She's considerably more open around women than men, who she can be a bit wary of. However, even when animated, she's quite soft-spoken.

She doesn't have a particularly optimistic outlook on life. She doesn't think that the world can change for the better overall; it's always been a place that's better for some than others, and always will be. Maybe a few individuals can claw a better life out for themselves, but meaningful change is impossible. She wants to be one of them, to prove that she's good enough, but she doesn't really believe she can be. Despite not thinking it can make a difference, she's very much a pacifist, being opposed to violence in all situations. She's seen first-hand how even a minor quibble can escalate and end with everyone dead for no good reason at all.

Kepret isn't really an academic. She's no more than average intelligence, and attends lessons only grudgingly; she'd much rather be daydreaming. She can create elaborate stories in her head, mostly about having a family again. She's not especially organized either, and her quarters are usually a bit messy. Sometimes more than a bit.

HISTORY
FAMILY: All deceased
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Cothold beholden to Southern Boll
HISTORY:
TW: Violence, death

Kepret was the youngest of nine children, the baby of the cothold's ruling family, and generally treated as an afterthought. When others helped, she was underfoot. When her mother died when she was young, why should she mourn when the others had known her longer? Always, she was compared unfavorably to her only sister, Margaret, seven Turns older and everything a girl should be and more. She was smart, pretty, charming, empathetic... And Kepret was plain, average, utterly forgettable. She had her circle of friends, but to everyone else she was just a girl who couldn't measure up to Margaret.

Still, her brothers and father were as protective of her as they were her sister, extremely so. Both of them were told that other men probably had bad intentions, and that it was better to keep clear of them most of the time. This was especially true when it came to the idea of courting: any men they were ever interested in had to meet their approval. Not that Kepret understood why she'd even want to ever do something so gross as court anyone, and as she grew older and realized she was far more interested in women than men, the idea only became more ludicrous.

As she entered her teenage years, she began an apprenticeship as a Weaver, where there were few men and many long hours in which she could daydream. She specialized in the weaving of tapestries, rather than whole cloth, bringing to life the scenes she imagined, many of them variations on Harper's tales. She spent most of her time away from her family, and so failed to notice that her older sister was falling in love.

One morning, Margaret suddenly announced to the family that she was courting a minor lord, Douglas. Their father immediately disapproved; he was from a different cothold, a less prosperous one, and she was never to see him again. Margaret rebelled, and a week later disappeared in the night to run away with her beau. One brother noticed her flight and roused the others, and seven brothers and the man who had raised them all gave chase. Not riding double, they caught up before dawn, and a bloody battle ensued. Douglas, a skilled fighter, slew every one of her brothers, and her father was mortally wounded and survived only a few minutes more. Douglas succumbed to his own wounds before the sun rose. Margaret never spoke again, and took ill and passed herself only a few days later.

Kepret was left with no family to speak of. Too young to run the cothold herself, she was taken to Southern Boll itself, and placed as a foster with a family there. The cothold that should have one day been run by her eldest brother was instead given to another family. She gained a significant antipathy toward any sort of violence after that, believing that it could solve nothing in a satisfactory manner but only get people pointlessly killed. People she'd loved.

And so it came to be that, a Turn and a half later, Kepret was at Southern Boll when a dragon came through on Search, and invited her to come with him. She had no connections at Southern Boll; her foster family treated her well enough, but always she was an outsider. So why not go?

HAENATH
Image

BASICS

NAME: Haenath
BIRTHDATE Early Winter 2767
AGE: 2 Turns as of Late Fall 2770

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 36 ft
HEIGHT: 9 ft
WINGSPAN: 60 ft
COLOR: Blue
HEX CODE: #000938
FULL APPEARANCE:
A sleek, streamline blue who is built for speed, Haenath is elegantly made. He is not the largest or the strongest, but he is every bit the quickness that a blue is supposed to be and then some. His wings are overly large, and his limbs are thin. His coloration is so polarized that one could be forgiven for mistaking him as shiny. Haenath is a deep, rich blue one would only find in gemstones. His wings are a lighter, pale sky blue with the webbing reflecting as much. The inner parts of his wingsails are a richer blue, with pale blue patterning that is a direct reflection of Nornth's wings. The same pale blue splashes over his stomach and hindquarters like waves, and curls over his forelegs. It is on his face like a bone mask as well.

Boisterous and proud, Haenath sounds like a confident young man, most of the time.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Despite his appearance, Haenath is a loud, boisterous, and charismatic blue. He has no problems speaking his mind or making jokes even at the worst of times. He puffs out his chest and declares proudly that he is the strongest and best blue on Pern, and the arrogance will get him in trouble one day. Or every day. It's not that he cares, or so he says. He'll still put 100% into everything he does, unless he's tired and then he definitely knows the value of sleep and rest. He is quick to judge but still fairly friendly.

To his rider, however, they know the real Haenath. The truth is, he is deeply insecure, scared to the core of what the world thinks of him and that he just isn't good enough. And maybe he isn't, maybe he really sucks and everyone is just humoring him. It scares him to the core. He won't breathe a word of it to anyone but his rider, and he'd much rather pretend he is the loudest one out there instead of letting everything that weighs on his mind get the better of him.
