"When the fight comes to you, you have to be ready to fight back."

BASICS

NAME: Daniel, generally goes by Danny.
GENDER: Male
PRONOUNS: He/Him/His
ORIENTATION: Bisexual

BIRTHDATE: Winter 2719
AGE: 52 as of 2771
LOCATION: Fort Weyr
OCCUPATION: Dragonrider
WING: Twilight

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown.
HAIR: Brown, greying at the temples.
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 5’9”, slight in stature and build but still rather muscular.
PLAY-BY: Ralph Macchio
FULL APPEARANCE:
Danny is on the smaller side in all aspects of the word. He's shorter than average and looks scrawny on first glance. If you pay more attention, you'll realise that he's far from scrawny - he's definitely thin, but muscular. He certainly doesn't look his age by any means unless, again, you pay more attention and examine his face. His hair is beginning to grey and crow's feet have settled at the corners of his eyes. Other than that, though, it's rather difficult to tell that he's not quite young - he still moves around like a young man and tends to walk more quickly than everyone else. In part, he's just compensating for being short.

He's the type to wear semi-formal clothes as often as he can, generally just because he finds that they look nice. Professionalism is his whole deal. He stays clean-shaven and takes care of his hair almost obsessively. Even if every other part of his life seems to be falling apart, he will look as close to perfect as possible.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Danny is consistently friendly to those he believes he can trust, generally coming across fairly relaxed and genuinely kind. He has no qualms with fighting for what he believes in, as well as the concept of standing up for himself and others. If someone seems to need any sort of help, he’s quick to offer his services. He considers himself to be very heroic - rarely to the point of “showing off” (though he will show off occasionally when given the chance, as he does have pride in his abilities), but rather out of a deep need to be there for others when they may not be able to stand up for themselves. He refuses to ever back down or run away from a fight, especially considering the only fights he’ll ever get himself into are ones that he himself didn’t start. Danny never strikes first - he will always be more defensive than offensive, and he takes pride in that, as well.

Danny finds it incredibly difficult to offer those that have wronged him second chances, especially when those people seem to continually prove themselves to not be worthy of such a thing. His forgiveness is more earned than given, and it takes quite a bit of convincing to earn it. He is almost completely incapable of letting go of past grudges, and he instead hangs onto them and allows them to become something of a personality trait. Essentially, if he’s experienced something particularly bad, everyone will know, and the people that caused that thing will pay for it in one way or another.

HISTORY:
Danny was born, raised, and grew up in Fort Hold. So, when he was searched at 15 and taken to Fort Weyr, the slight but noticeable change in scenery was certainly not only welcome but also overdue. In the Weyr, Danny automatically had a rivalry with a guy a year his senior, Johnny. Admittedly, he looked up to him a bit – Johnny impressed before Danny, which was awesome, because, whoa, dragon, and he all around just seemed really cool. The rivalry was altogether harmless in the beginning – a few pranks exchanged here and there, and that was the whole extent of it. However, the rivalry grew more and more sour as time passed. Danny couldn’t quite place where that came from, but they just kept butting heads and getting angrier and angrier until what was once all in good fun turned to vitriol and hatred and glares shot at each other from across the room. It was sad, of course – Danny was definitely not pleased to lose someone he really, truly thought was a friend, in some weird definition of the word, but he surmised that that’s just how things went sometimes. After a while, he started to assume that it was jealousy on Johnny’s part – Danny was succeeding (and had even hit it off with a girl, Ali), and he was moving quickly and learning even quicker and Johnny must have been threatened by that. He couldn’t concern himself with what Johnny thought about him, though. It just wasn’t healthy.

Just a year after Johnny’s impression, Danny impressed as well, earning him the title of brownrider. He and Miyath were inseparable from the day Danny impressed on, and Miyath’s presence took up the hole that Johnny had left when he’d presumably decided out of nowhere that he just didn’t want to be friends anymore. Danny tried to forget about Johnny, genuinely. It didn’t help much that they were pretty much always forced together, but he attempted to get over it with… definitely not infrequent fights. As soon as he graduated from weyrlinghood, he and Miyath were thrust into battle in the Interval War. The thing with Ali didn’t really pan out – he figured it just wasn't meant to be, as they slowly but surely drifted apart before deciding to call it quits. He wasn’t single for long, though. During the Interval War, he met Amanda, who would eventually become his weyrmate. They had two children – Sam and Anthony – and Danny genuinely thought this was as perfect as his life could possibly get. But as the years went on, it became increasingly clear that he was buried in his own past, unable to move on from things that happened years and years ago. What had he done wrong to Johnny? Why had Johnny run off – and, for that matter, where had he run off to? He tried not to think about it. That’s what Amanda would always tell him to do every time he would bring it up, so why wouldn’t he listen to her?

He filled his time and his thoughts with preparing for Threadfall among the other riders in Fort, taking a particular interest in Robby of Blue Keenth, who showed massive potential from the very start and shared Danny's love of sports. They became quick friends and Danny began to play the role of something of a father figure to Robby, which worked well, because Robby and Sam were good friends, and Robby got along well with Anthony, too. Robby didn’t talk much about his blood family even when Danny asked, so Danny thought it was just safe to assume that he didn’t want to talk about them for his own personal reasons, and he kept the questions burning in his mind to himself. Eventually, Robby did tell him who his father was, which… didn’t do the best for Danny’s mental state, because of course Johnny had to infiltrate every single part of his life, but he liked Robby far too much to even consider turning him away just because his father, who he didn’t speak to and hardly ever spoke about, was Danny’s old rival. Constantly training began to take a toll on his relationship with Amanda – he buried himself in preparing for any and everything that he possibly could regarding Threadfall, which meant he was very rarely taking time to be with Amanda. He could tell they were growing apart, but he couldn’t really do much about it – perhaps he didn’t really want to at all. He was far more invested in trying to keep his mind occupied at all hours of the day so that he wouldn’t think about Johnny.

Everything came to a head when Johnny finally came back. They jumped right back into their rivalry, this time with even more vitriol than before. There was no room for the goofy pranks that they’d played as kids – that rivalry had been building up in Danny’s chest for ten years, and he was finally able to get out everything he had been thinking and bottling up and trying to ignore. He became obsessed – he couldn’t quite figure out why, but Johnny’s presence made him absolutely furious, and he wanted to do pretty much everything he could to make sure Johnny was aware that, even without him around, he had maintained his success and become a very adept rider. That obsession eventually drove Amanda away and she left him, realising that Danny was too far gone into his past to carry on a proper relationship. He wouldn’t see a mindhealer simply because he didn’t particularly think that there was any reason he would need to – nothing was wrong with him, after all. He had just been wronged by Johnny, and he rightfully wanted revenge and for Johnny to get the comeuppance he deserved.

A rivalry that had once been friendly and lighthearted had consumed him, ruined his relationship with Amanda, and could have very well pushed him towards absolute misery. It didn’t, though – that’s one thing he absolutely refused to let it do. Out of everything in the world, he absolutely would not let Johnny be his complete downfall. Frankly, he probably just needed to talk to him, but that concept also infuriated him. Johnny had left. He didn’t deserve Danny’s time. Danny would just get over it. He’d have to, for his own sake, but also for the sake of his kids, who were starting to see that the rivalry he had with Johnny was a problem for everyone. Even though they weren’t together, Amanda eventually pushed him to see a mindhealer, and he left with the idea in his mind that he needed to actually talk to Johnny, not just be awful to him and hope that that would eventually lead to some sort of… apology? He didn’t particularly know the details, he just knew he needed to talk to him so that maybe his life would get back to normal.

In his time with the mindhealer, he was also made to realise that he hadn’t really let himself have his own life – he just let his life revolve around Johnny, a man that had literally left the weyr for ten years without so much as a trace of where he was going or when he would be back. It did make Danny a bit uncomfortable, coming to all of those realisations, but once he did, he was able to begin to repair his relationship with Amanda, though it would likely never return to the way it was before. In the very least, they made pretty good friends, which was absolutely a welcome change for Danny – having friends, that is. He’d let himself get so wrapped up in a stupid rivalry that he hadn’t even tried to make friends in years. He started going out, becoming significantly more social, and trying to actually move on from what happened when he was younger. He realised that, perhaps his life wouldn’t “get back to normal”, but he had never had a normal life in the first place – just a life that was informed entirely by the life of another person, which his mindhealer had to keep reminding him was not a particularly healthy way to live. (The regular meetings with the mindhealer were definitely necessary.) He started properly taking care of himself and found that, once he began living his own life, it was far easier for him to not think about the vitriolic rivalry that he and Johnny had once had. Instead, he could tell jokes again and things became much more lighthearted – at least on his part. He found that, despite at least slightly wanting to know if things were more lighthearted on Johnny’s side, too, he wasn’t horribly concerned with that. He couldn’t control what Johnny did any more than Johnny could control what he did, so, finally, it just wasn’t that big of a deal. Perhaps, eventually, they could even start something of a proper friendship, the same way that Danny had become friends with Amanda and a good array of people in the weyr.

To Danny, the coup is probably one of the worst ideas he could possibly imagine. Weyrs need goldriders at the head, and even if those goldriders make mistakes, the way to go about fixing those mistakes is not to ground dragons and put Fort at risk in the next Threadfall. It’s one thing that he can actually agree with Johnny on – Z’osh could’ve approached the possible transfer of power much better than he did, but since he chose a coup, now all of Fort is in a sort of danger that could have very well been avoided.

BASICS

NAME: Miyath
BIRTHDATE Winter 2734
AGE: 36 as of 2770

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 40ft
HEIGHT: 10ft
WINGSPAN: 60ft
COLOR: Brown
HEX CODE: #bdac8e
FULL APPEARANCE:
Miyath is a very light brown dragon with a muscular body that is covered in brown speckles that don't quite reach his wings. He has large, lotus-bloom-shaped markings on the inside of each of his wings. He is on the smaller side for browns, but that has never stopped him before - he considers it an asset, as he doesn't lumber around and instead considers himself to be quite nimble.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Despite Miyath's penchant for sarcastic humour and sly, witty jokes wherever he can get them in, Miyath is genuinely caring and warm-hearted and tends to come across as an endless fount of wisdom. He avoids aggression at all costs and urges that Danny do the same. According to Miyath, striking first can only lead to terrible consequences. The only time one should strike is if they are striking out of self defense. He's quite strong and has become very skilled in training with Danny, but he does everything in his power to not let that strength corrupt him and tries to do the same for Danny.

VOICE: Miyath speaks evenly and calmly, like a wise old teacher might.
