BASICS

NAME: Rhaadys
GENDER: Masculine
PRONOUNS: Masculine (he/him/his)

BIRTHDATE: Late Autumn 2746
AGE: 27 as of Early Winter 2772

OCCUPATION: Wherhandler
WING: Dusk

APPEARANCE
EYES: Brown
HAIR: Black
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 6' 2" || muscular and fit
PLAY-BY: Mako (Legend of Korra)
FULL APPEARANCE:
With an impressive 6' 2" for height, Rhaadys boasts a muscular build from Turns of training for a life of dragonriding that never came to be. His hair is midnight black in color, trimmed in a short, neat military-like cut. His eyes are a simple dark brown; nothing to be gawking at. Rhaadys prefers to wear clothing that suits his life of duty, often in simple clothes and boots, such that he could pull on his fighting gear in swift, short order. It seems Rhaadys sports a constant look of grim peevishness or something near a scowl.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Rhaadys can be described as a prickly, uptight individual. Swift efficiency in all assigned duties is of the utmost importance, as is keeping a sense of honor and dignity while on active assignment. Some might call Rhaadys a military man, but he simply sees it necessary to stay true to ancient law. He privately thinks everyone should as well, and occasionally takes it upon himself to get involved in others' business to note their flaws and state that Tradition must be upheld to maintain order and bring balance. Rhaadys seeks to be useful; he truly does. He just goes about it in a very abrasive manner. While family is an additional aspect to Rhaadys' daily life that holds some import, upholding proper Tradition surpasses all other obligations.

Rhaadys is, to put it simply, both Traditionalist and a colorist. He firmly believes that garnets are an unnatural mutation and should not be present in Pernese life. He feels similarly toward whites, though to a lesser degree, due to his sister being a whiterider and his own reasoning. The only true, natural colors that should exist are gold, bronze, brown, blue, and green. No more, no less. Anything else disrupts the balance of Pernese life. Tradition dictates that metallic golds and bronzes are to lead, with the chromatic browns, blues, and greens as the workforce. To deviate from these laws is tantamount to casting aside everything that makes us human, in Rhaadys' expert opinion.

After being ignored at Hatching after Hatching, only to age out in disgrace, Rhaadys holds a bitterness and deep resentment close to his heart, and perhaps a hint of insecurity and uncertainty. Why was he passed up? What flaw made him unacceptable? Can he correct it? Stemming from this failure on the Hatching Grounds, Rhaadys strives for perfection in everything he does, to the point of it becoming an obsession. Now, with the misfortune of being bonded to a garnet wher of all creatures, he struggles even more. Disgust and frustration always color many of his interactions with garnets, even those with his own wher, though he seems more uncomfortable than truly disgusted with Dysk. He feels mildly ashamed to have been selected to be bonded to a garnet, and Dysk's patience doesn't help matters. As of right now, Rhaadys stands firmly by his beliefs, even while bonded to his Dysk.

HISTORY
FAMILY:
Uninvolved parents - both riders - both living
R'ydia of Brown Zaylith - younger half-sister - brownrider - alive [-3]
A'den of Blue Qamarth - younger brother - bluerider - alive [-7]
Rhaenys of White Cosmiath - younger sister - whiterider - alive [-9]
Timon - younger half-brother - Candidate - alive [-11]
Siblings/Half-Siblings - unknown - open ties!
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Open, but Rhaadys isn't really interested.
BIRTHPLACE: Igen Weyr
HISTORY:
Rhaadys was born to two riders of Igen Weyr, firstborn as far as he knows. From the moment he could understand the concept, he put his first goal ahead of him: become a dragonrider like his parents. Not only that, but he would only be a rider of the best, a bronze or a brown, if no bronze sought him out. With this goal in mind, he began preparing himself for Candidacy; physically, mentally, and emotionally. He would become as close to perfect as he could be, and walk off those Sands with a bronze or brown in triumph and pride. The day he turned 15, Rhaadys signed up for Candidacy, certain he would be selected in short and swift order.

It was not meant to be, it seemed. Every Hatching Rhaadys attended resulted the same: no dragon. No triumph. No pride. Only disappointment and bitter frustration. For Turns, he continued to "better" himself, becoming obsessed with becoming efficient and perfect. Being "as close to perfect as he could be" was no longer acceptable. Perfect was it. Perfect was everything he needed to become a dragonrider. Failure came to Rhaadys like a splash of cold water as he aged out at 26 Turns. No dragonet had deemed him worthy to be his bonded, and Rhaadys was crushed. What was he to do now? He had no purpose in life other than dragonriding. A caravan came to Igen to trade their wares, and Rhaadys found them welcoming to a disgraced ex-Candidate such as himself. Turning his back on the Weyr that saw him unfit - in his mind, anyway - he departed with the caravan the next dawn.

Rhaadys knew whers traveled with their bonded handlers in caravans, but what he didn't expect was the invitation to Impress to one of the eggs. Whers were a touchy subject to the former Candidate. Whers couldn't fly. Whers couldn't breathe flame. Whers couldn't nor wouldn't Search. Whers weren't dragons. Yet Rhaadys slowly became more agreeable to the idea. Bonded to a wher, he would serve a greater purpose to his caravan. Thus, he agreed to the possibility of becoming a wherhandler.

Worst mistake he ever made.

A large egg had been rolled to him by the gold clutchmother, everyone positive it would contain bronze or brown, perhaps even gold. Rhaadys was prepared to take up the mantle of protector with this fine bronze or brown at his side, only for the egg to split to reveal a massive, magnificent...garnet. Stunned for a moment, Rhaadys was certain this was a mistake, only for the clutchmother to adamantly insist that this wher was meant to be with Rhaadys. Well, if the clutchmother said it was to be, how could Rhaadys refuse? He couldn't. To refuse a wherlet from the mother would be a grave insult and break from Tradition.

That night, Rhaadys walked away not with the bronze or brown he'd hoped, but a garnet that seemed more than happy to tolerate and aid in the managing of his "poor countenance", as she'd called it. It was around this time that Rhaadys realized that traveling with the caravan simply wasn't for him. He needed the structure and sense of duty a Weyr provided, but he was currently occupied with caring for Dysk as she matured. They were unable to leave, what with Dysk's current state of vulnerability due to her age. He decided, once the creature was grown, they would transfer not back to Igen - he could never show his face there again, disgraced former Candidate as he was, especially not with a strange garnet wher - but to Fort Weyr. It was the best available option to them. It was close to their current location, it remained true to Tradition, and it was the first established Weyr. It would do just fine.

As the caravan drew into Fort, Rhaadys kept his farewells short before striding away, garnet Dysk in tow, to present himself to the Wherleader and join the ranks of Fort's wherhandling squads. This was the next chapter of his life; his return to life in the Weyr. The only way to go from here was up.

Dysk

Image

Am your Dysk. No use complaining now. Matter is done, dear.

BASICS

NAME: Dysk
BIRTHDATE Early Fall 2771
AGE: 1 as of Early Spring 2773

CLUTCHING

CLUTCHING: YES
RUNS/FLIGHTS: 3-4

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 14.95 ft.
HEIGHT: 5.5 ft.
COLOR: Garnet
HEX CODE: #b12790
FULL APPEARANCE:
Dysk is a large and strong wher, and quite imposing at times, despite her attempts to be the opposite. Built for long-distance lopes, this strong garnet will bear her bonded through every challenge thrown at them. She is round all around, with a soft body made for cuddles. Yet don't think Dysk can't use this mass to her advantage when necessary. Absolutely stunning in coloration, Dysk boasts a dark purple hide, with warm magenta dominating her belly. This same magenta color stripes up her sides and is scrubbed over her tail, legs, paws, and chest. This gives her darker purple hide a subtle warmth, as though to give her a gentle glow to her demeanor.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Dysk is a very motherly sort of wher, first of all. She absolutely loves being around young creatures, human children in particular, and enjoys offering rides on her back. She seems to have a nice word for everyone she meets, always offering encouragement to the downtrodden. She is very helpful as well, willing to go out of her way to aid another in an endeavor. Yet Dysk isn't all sunshine and rainbows. She possesses a wicked sarcastic streak, and won't hesitate to speak her mind to anyone, regardless of authority. Dysk is fiercely protective of those she considers family, and while she rarely holds grudges, her forgiveness is hard to earn if you do wrong her. She knows she is large and built for strength, and has determined she will only use her power to help others and protect her family. No one shall control or sway her.

To her handler, Dysk is a patient and loving friend. She understands that Rhaadys is both obsessed with perfection and a staunch Traditionalist, and will thus make things difficult between the two of them, but she senses he needs thoughts like hers to get through life. It's why she was chosen for him. Dysk's patience seems limitless, her encouragements flowing like honey near constantly, yet everyone has a breaking point. Dysk won't hesitate to sharply school her handler if he's being unreasonable, throwing her weight around both physically and verbally. Rhaadys might need time to truly grow into his best self, but Dysk will be there every step of the way with her deeply kind and loving nature.

Voice: Dysk has a very lovely feminine voice, like a middle-aged lady. She uses "dear", "honey", and other fond terms of endearments a lot in conversation, even when she's being sarcastic.
