Sem'ra of Blue Kalzeoth

SEMAERAMYS

"lyrics or quotes here"

BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Adopt Dragon/Wher, Retire Character
NAME: Semaeramys (But will answer to any diminutive therein; Semma, Semae, Sem, Maera, Mary, Myssie….be creative, sie'll answer if you're looking at hir!)
GENDER: Everything and nothing. Assigned male at birth but prefers being largely effeminate.
PRONOUNS: sie/hir/hirs
ORIENTATION: All. If sie likes you, you're going to have a good time.

BIRTHDATE: Late Winter, 2741
AGE: 24, on the cusp of 25.
LOCATION: For the moment, Fort Weyr, but sie's open to going anywhere depending on plot.
OCCUPATION: Leatherworker

APPEARANCE
EYES: Gray
HAIR: Red/light brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: Very small, slender build. Height at 5' 4 1/2" (VERY PROUD of that half inch). Swaybacked, which means every move xe makes looks curvy.
FULL APPEARANCE: Semaeramys wears mostly just hir leather apron over a simple shirt and pants or a simple dress when sie works, but prefers flamboyant clothes when going out, and stylish pajamas at night, for pacing the halls. Hir hair is a bit shaggy and sie usually puts it in a bandanna or ponytail for working, though sie likes to put braids in it when sie's bored. Sie also has an anklet that belonged to hir sister that sie only takes off to bathe, or switch ankles.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: *TW: Mental Illness* Typically flamboyant and eccentric, Semaeramys is known to be pithy and sarcastic, which is often construed for rudeness. Sie has many acquaintances, but few friends. In the event sie gets passionate about something, sie'll follow it to its grave, or fall into hir own (sie is sometimes not very careful in the pursuit of things).
Always trying to help, sie sometimes bites off a little more than sie can chew, and it gets overwhelming due to underlying anxiety and depression. While it does not impair the quality of hir work (sie's too paranoid to fail at what sie thinks sie does best), it does inhibit some aspects of communication and interaction with others, and causes hir to come across as suddenly distant and perhaps cruel.

Sie keeps it manageable, even hidden, with hir hobbies, and prefers to withdraw into hir leatherwork. A hard worker, sie considers hir product a reflection of hirself, and due to low self-esteem, is very personally hurt if the quality is insulted. Sie plays up hir personality as a mask, appearing almost theatrical. Hir favourite trick is to remain underestimated, not betraying hir intelligence, which sie takes great pride in having and hiding, though it backfires in that it is difficult for hir to talk to people of a perceived 'lesser' intelligence. Secretly a keen researcher, there is a thrill to obtaining information, from records or by talking to people, and sie keeps hir notes on scraps in a box labelled for Penmanship Practice. On an unrelated note, hir penmanship is quite beautiful.

HISTORY
FAMILY: Father (Former Trader), Mother, and one sister, Mineranei.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None yet!
BIRTHPLACE: Does not remember, due to moving with the Traders.
HISTORY: *TW: Death, Grief, Depression* Semaeramys's father was a Trader, and the family moved frequently, usually to bring supplies to Crafthalls. They were largely nomadic until Semaeramys was an early teen, and had experienced times of plenty, times of little, and times of nothing. As they were the only ones that were with hir growing up, sie was very close to hir family, especially hir sister, Mineranei, who was only a few turns older than hirself. Even though she was older, Semma was given the task of their Father's bookkeeping, as sie caught onto it faster than Mineranei. During their travels, sie learned how to write in beautiful script, and for gifts, sie would often paint lettering onto small boxes or trinkets for people, one of hir best being a ring box for Mineranei. Sie also loved to play Flummox the Wherhandlers at night, which was basically just hide and seek but the guards didn't know they were playing. Sie really just wanted to see the old whers, and liked to have them chase hir, or chide hir gently and scoot hir into the hall with their big noses. It was a game to hir, and sie wasn't really aware of how important their jobs were. Looking back, sie might owe hir life to one of them.

Semma thought their problems were finished when they decided to stay at a hold, and hoped to have friends like the Crafters did when the family settled, but almost as soon as they moved in, both sie and hir sister were struck with a disease that incapacitated them both. Semaeramys survived, but Mineranei did not. It was a devastating blow, as she had been supportive of her eccentric brother, tailoring some of her dresses to fit him when she grew out of them, and showing him how to wear his hair when it got long and he refused to cut it. She had often been a protective figure when people commented on hir slightness or hir curved back, and stuck up for his decisions even when their parents asked questions. She gave hir the pair of anklets sie never took off, even to bathe (though after losing one in a pool years later, sie took to removing the latter one so that the clasp wouldn't weaken over time). Deeply depressed when she died, sie withdrew, and spoke to almost no one, which was especially painful as sie'd been looking forward to forming better social bonds in a new community. Sie never blamed hir parents for hir sister's loss, but their grief and hirs caused them to grow apart.

Bayani was hir neighbor at the time, and one of the few brave enough to speak to hir even when hir own mother couldn't reach hir. He encouraged hir to start living again, and pursue hir own interests, which sie had all but dropped to mourn. Sie picked up an apprenticeship with Bayani's father, learning to tan leather, and then working the leather he tanned. Sie considered hirself fortunate that sie learned to like it, and began to think once again of the future. Sie never gave much thought to a weyr or dragons or whers, content to finally be settled and doing something sie enjoyed in a business that would remain secure for a long time. However, it came to pass that Bayani left, to go to a weyr. His Dad asked hir to follow him, trying to convince hir of hir massive potential for a higher education. He also said sie could pursue better opportunities for hir leatherwork, and confided that it was his hope to have someone familiar around Bayani while he became accustomed to his new surroundings.

At first, sie resisted, afraid of dragons and Threads, and the fast-paced education of a candidate, content to leave them to stronger souls. Sie hid when the blue dragon and its rider came to Search the Hold for Candidates, able to either sneak out of the assemblies or blend in with the throng of hopefuls, clamoring mentally for its attention, and managed easily enough to slip through the cracks, never admitting the part where sie jumped out a low window and rolled into the yard to get away when it got close. It was the news of Bayani's candidacy that hurt the most, and left hir to really sort hir priorities. Sie begged him to stay, knowing he wouldn't, and started to consider going with it.

In the end, sie decided that sie could risk all of hir fears and inconveniences to be with the one person who had retained any faith in hir while sie slowly lost hirself to hir grief, and who bothered to build hir back up at all. It also stood to reason that there could ONLY be benefits to hir leatherworking, and that being educated as a Candidate would be a healthy, structured environment for hir, and something sie might even enjoy. Sie was decently certain sie wouldn't Impress on a dragon, out of the gate, or even at all, and that was acceptable to hir. Sie never minded whers; maybe sie'd meet some of those, too. Moreover, being a leatherworker at a weyr would certainly be good, safe business, and getting a dragon or even a wher out of the deal could only be a plus. Besides, Mineranei would have been proud to see hir succeed at...anything, really.

Whatever happened could only be better for hir than the quiet life at the hold without hir only real friend, and because sie couldn't defeat hir own logic, sie went with a sigh to the blue dragon as the rider was about to leave, and explained hir deplorable conduct. Sie pretended a damsel, frightened of being taken by a mighty dragon from hir only home, but said that hir father had truly gotten through to hir about being honest with a dragon, and that sie wasn't afraid any more (only about half a lie). The rider agreed, and it didn't take long before the dragon found hir to be a suitable candidate, which sie'd suspected (and partially dreaded). Sie was treated to a long upbraiding about how important it is that one not hide from a Search, and the rider agreed to stay another few hours to let hir prepare to go, even after the others had left. And so it was that sie packed hir life, opened hir mind, and followed two days' travel behind Bayani to Fort Weyr.

Kalzeoth

BASICS

NAME: Kalzeoth
BIRTHDATE Late Winter 2767
AGE: Newborn

RUNS/FLIGHTS: Later in life, maybe~

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: (Final) 38 ft.
HEIGHT: (Final) 9 ft.
WINGSPAN: (Final) 57 ft.
COLOR: Blue
HEX CODE: #2f4d59
FULL APPEARANCE: If princes were dragons, they would be Kalzeoth. With an arrow-shaped head that he keeps held high, he is very lovely. An agile, strong fighter in his own right, Kalzeoth laments only that he is not a bronze, but he will find a way to rule. He is a pale, stone-blue all over, with his body looking fit and firm. His markings are a pale, cloudy blue that carve out sharp, regal patterns. He has a great emblem on his chest, and geometric markings over his face. He is gorgeous and he knows it. His wings have sharp, ice-colored patterns over the sails like encroaching frost.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Proud, arrogant and regal, Kalzeoth can be insufferable. He is aware of his fine lineage and definitely believes he is the one who will change and shape Pern for the better. He's manipulative and sneaky, not above underhanded tactics to get his way. He is very charismatic, with a way with words and a sly grin to him. He has no problems getting into fights, because he is confident that he will be able to end them. And if he shows his bravery, more people will want to follow him. In theory anyways. He is a proud, fine trash fire.

To his rider, Kalzeoth is softer, but the arrogance still shines through. He is quite supportive of them and their interests. Behind all of that, however, he is desperate for love and acceptance. He wants to belong. He wants friends. He desperately wants a family, for someone to really like him for who he is, and will let him have his weaknesses. His progress will be slow, but he will be so happy when he finally is able to let go of who he pretends to be, and is who he wants to be.

Voice: Kalzeoth could not sound more like a prince if he tried. His voice is light, noble, and calming to listen to.

Why me?: Time for a hot mess. The hottest of messes, really. Kalzeoth is going to try, he really will, but it's definitely going to be an adjustment for them.
