PLAY-BY: -
FULL APPEARANCE:

Standing at about 6’4”, Turakana is solidly built, with thick arms and a big belly. Underneath that there’s evidently solid muscle, in the manner of people who are often outdoors doing physical labour. They are dark eyed and dark haired, with long thick curls (probably close to a 3b) that are often braided for convenience. Turakana prefers bright and flashy clothes - which are unfortunately often more expensive dyes and therefore out of their reach - and has a little collection of cheap bead jewellery.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:

Possessed of much sensibility and little sense, Turakana is ruled by their emotions, not ruling them, and is prone to deep passions and hurts. For them, there is little middle ground, only the high extremes of temperament. This makes them extremely impulsive - often they are performing an action before they’ve consciously made a decision to do so. Consequences are for other people. They are also, putting it nicely, aggressive. If there’s going to be a fight, they believe in striking quickest and hardest, before the other side has a chance to respond. They’ve been in more then one fight thrust upon them by their size and strength - or by a choice to step in to protect others. It’s not an experience they enjoy.

Turakana is kind and emotionally intelligent. They are deeply empathetic towards others and will go well out of their way to comfort or help, even with people who they might not personally like. They take note of the little things - a favourite bun or a favoured scent - and are more than likely then not to recall them in the form of kind gifts. They're also pretty emotionally open: if they're bothered by something or particularly like someone everyone will know about it, and sooner rather then later. They have never kept a thought to themselves in their life and don't intend to start now.

They have little political sense and are bound to get themselves into scrapes by saying or doing the wrong thing or defending the wrong person. They mean well. They honestly mean well. They are the sort of person who will walk into a burning building to rescue a feline - the sort of bravery that comes from no understanding or heed of consequences, as well as a deep moral sense. This moral sense is rather simplistic and a little childish: they hold very firmly that everyone should endeavour to be kind and brave and to do good things. What those good things are seems self-evident to Turakana, although others might not agree.

That said, they’re not book smart. Not book smart at all. Although they’ve got a decent grasp of the very basic teaching songs, anything that might require them to do more then very simple reading or to write more then their name is a struggle. They’re good with their hands and have any number of unexpected skills - they know how to fix a wagon’s axel, how to build an outrigger canoe, how to fish and provide for themselves. They can light a fire with two sticks and climb a tricky ascent to retrieve a lost herdbeast, and if you give them long enough they can probably whittle a new whistle. Just please, please do not ask them to read out loud in front of the class.

HISTORY
FAMILY:

M - Turekka
F - Anarien
??? - a possibly infinite amount of cousins, aunts and uncles. Turakana suspects they may in fact be related to everyone in Ista and it definitely feels that way sometimes. Their grandmother had sixteen living children, and things... spread, from there.

SIGNIFICANT OTHER: -
BIRTHPLACE: Igen Hold

HISTORY:

2252 - Born in Igen Hold to Turekka and Anarien.

2255 - Turekka leaves Igen Hold to return to her mother’s people in Ista, taking Turakana with her. They have never quite gotten to the bottom of the reasons for their parent's separation - they have never formally renounced each other - and their mother refuses to provide any answers. They come to live in a small Istan fishing hold where the Holder is their great-uncle's son. He takes the two of them in without a moment's hesitation once the connection is established.

2255-2268 - Turakana grows up in a hold where they are related to almost every single (very nosy) person. Although some might find it stifling, Turakana takes a great deal of strength from it. The children of the hold are just as semi-feral and loved as you might expect, spending much of their time before adult responsibilities kick in manning tiny boats and poking things in rockpools with sticks. Turakana learns independence and self-reliance - and how to throw a punch - but also that they can always go home and be fed and fussed over.

2267 - Turakana is present when one of the great storms sweeps in, wrecking a fishing boat that was racing for shelter. A strong swimmer from a lifetime of fooling around in the water, they immediately volunteer to attempt to swim out with a rope to try and pull any survivors back to shore. They rescue two people and have to be prevented from, exhausted, trying to go back out. They have not fully forgiven themselves for failing to do so.

2269 - Turakana decides to strike off on their own, at least for a while. They are secure that their family will always be there for them when they want to come home (hopefully with a spouse who isn’t related to them in tow), but in the meantime… well, they’re young and they want to see the world. After a sevenday or so they fall in with a group of traders who take on the young traveller - ostensibly as a bit of hired muscle, but at least a little because they feel fondly towards them. It is probably fairly obvious to them that Turakana doesn’t really have a plan or a destination beyond ‘out there!’.

2269 - 2271 - Turakana has the chance to travel the north and savours every moment. They can’t say that they’ve been to every hold, but they’ve been to many of the major ones and quite a few of the minor. Having an in with one group of traders acts as a casual reference for others, and they gain a reputation as a solid hand on a caravan route - not particularly bright, but decent and reasonably good at following directions.

2271, late - Turakana is searched to High Reaches. What is becoming a dragon rider other than the biggest adventure possible?

IC Information
What type of candidate is your character: Dragon

What color/s does your character want?: They’re not overly ambitious, but they do secretly dream of a bronze. Heroes ride bronzes, right?
Does your character have any personality preferences or concerns?: Honestly, they have barely got beyond Dragons: They’re People, let alone What I Would Like.
Does your character have any other preferences or concerns?: They’re not worried about failing to Impress or aging out - other opportunities are out there - but the idea of violence on the sands does worry them a little.

OOC Information
If your character is a dual candidate IC, do you have a strong preference on whether they Impress dragon or wher?: N/A

What color(s) are you willing for your character to impress to?: No preferences.
Do you want your character to be eligible for gold?: Yes (but they would be terrible at it)
Do you have any personality preferences or concerns?: I’d prefer to avoid any dragons that could be described as ‘cruel’ or that could take them down a grimdark path. I don’t find that particularly fun to write! I would really like to see a dragon that makes some of their weaknesses like their impulsiveness worse as well as complimenting them in other respects.
Do you have any other preferences or concerns?: -
Why do you think these choice/s would be a good fit?: I don’t find grimdark stuff very fun to write, and Turakana is an optimistic sort of character. I think it would be fun to have a pair that do have mutual weaknesses rather than complimenting one another absolutely.

Do you have any preferences about the conditions of your character’s impression?: Ideally I would like to play them a bit more before they impressed, but if the right match came along I wouldn’t be mad about it.
Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?: Yes, fuck them up. Preferably no permanent disabilities, but this is negotiable, especially if they do something ridiculous on the sands. DM me and we can work it out.

Is there anything you will ABSOLUTELY NOT accept?: -
