Usually her hair is long and straight, or done up in a braid. She works hard to make sure she looks presentable, but doesn’t go out of her way to make herself look fancy. She doesn’t object at all to getting dirty, and will gladly get as filthy as possible if it means the job gets done. She tends to tan easily, but not get too dark without burning. Zul keeps her posture straight as possible, and always does her best to keep her expression neutral around her superiors.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Zul is what one might call a goody two shoes. She follows the rules to the letter, and tries her damnedest not to deviate. However, she still has a strong sense of right and wrong, causing her to hesitantly abstain from following rules she thinks are unjust or ‘wrong’. It’s a delicate balance that causes her great stress, and something she’d rather not have to think about. This desire to follow rules doesn’t lend herself to friendship though. She’d very literal minded and has a hard time understanding sarcasm or jokes.
Zul, otherwise, is a fiercely loyal companion who will defend you with their life. She trains herself hard, and expects others to be able to keep up with her if she KNOWS they can. For everyone else, she can be a little too lenient, sometimes even going as far as to baby the other person at times. She tends to have a hard time finding a middle ground, making it hard for her to click with others.
Despite all this, she does her best to be kind to others. While clumsy and heavy handed, she is at least good at understanding when she’s gone to far or hurt someone, and will apologize as soon as she realizes her mistake. Despite her rule centric world view, she still TRIES to understand why others deviate and break rules that are perfectly reasonable to her.
Inter-weyr politics are difficult for her to follow, since she struggles with grey morality in regards to bigger, less personal issues. But she assumes the leaders make their choices for reasons, and does her best to respect their wishes without overly rationalizing them. She’s still quick to defend leaders with a little too much energy if she agrees with them, and can alienate people if she takes it too far.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Quar – Father ( Hold Guard )
Malchia – Mother ( Hold Guard )
BIRTHPLACE: Ruatha
HISTORY:
Hers is a simple story. Short and sweet.
She was born to a couple of Hold guards, both dedicated and strong in all manner of ways. Her father and mother loved her dearly, but were often busy with work. Zul took after her parents, strong and quick to jump to the defense of others, especially when other children wanted to assert power and dominance over others. Even at a young age, she had no patience for bullies and would even go as far as to fight them if they took things too far.
Eventually, she herself would have to settle down a little, and decide what her life would be dedicated to. Many of her extended family were crafters, working with leather and beasts. Others were healers and starcrafters, and more still were even wher handlers at Telgar Weyr. Honestly, Zul wanted to follow in her parents’ footsteps and be a Hold Guard like them. But her parents had other ideas.
They wanted more for her, and knew that guard life would only make her stagnate. So they asked her wherhandler relatives if they could take her, but they could not, and suggested that she simply be a Candidate at Fort Weyr instead. When she turned fifteen, she was Searched by a Searchdragon, and found Candidate-worthy. She had a lot of questions about whers and dragons, but a spark was set ablaze in her upon listening to the answers.
While she didn’t feel the same burning passion others felt about Candidacy, she did feel it was a worthwhile endeavor. The idea of protecting not only the Holdfolk but all of Pern’s civilized population as best as she could appealed to her. So once she had all her questions answered, she agreed to go with them. It was a sad time, but her parents were relieved that she would have a more enriching life than being JUST a guard.
