BASICS

RETIRE INFO: Retire
NAME: Theren
GENDER: Male
PRONOUNS: He/him/his
ORIENTATION: He is far too busy to have time or consideration for such things. (He thinks he's straight but he definitely isn't.)

BIRTHDATE: Late winter 2745
AGE: 22 as of 2767
LOCATION: Semaca Weyr (transferred from some Igen Weyr)
OCCUPATION: Candidate
WING: N/A

APPEARANCE
EYES: Olive green.
HAIR: Close-shorn taupe fuzz.
HEIGHT AND BUILD: 6'2", tall and lean, would be graceful if he didn't carry himself so rigidly.
FULL APPEARANCE: Theren is tall and thin, but somehow manages not to look underfed—he's just a sleek fellow. Theren's taupe-brown locks have been culled, cropped short, and left as barely more than a peach-fuzz of stubble to cap his skull. He is upstanding, clean-cut, and (barring the dragon scars) free of scuffs and scars due to his more reserved, indoors-centric nature. He seems to have a constantly displeased expression: an unenjoyable mix of bored, tired, and vaguely nauseated.

Theren has already crept past the 6' mark, and is still slowly growing, destined to be exceptionally tall once fully grown. Eventually the youthful awkwardness of his limbs has departed, and in its place can be found a strutting confidence; the young man does very much delight in being able to look down his (rather long) nose at others. His whip-thin brows dash fiercely over his eyes, markedly crooked down in a nearly permanent scowl, both a darker black-brown than his hair. His face is an angular, slanted countenance with high, fine cheekbones—if you can get past the destructive, ragged scars.

Following a recent hatching at Igen, and a severe mauling by a hatchling, the young man looks...a healthy bit rougher. Vicious claw marks peek out thought the collar of his shirt, and a few dash down his left arm as low as the elbow. Most of his chest bears scars, and one or two stand out on his hips and upper thighs. Perhaps the worst, or at least the most notable, however, are a number of diagonal scars on his face and head. Raking around the dome of his skull through his short hair, clearly gouged from teeth, they wrap above his left ear and down dangerously close to his left eye. Smaller slices dot his cheek, down towards his jaw—a reminder of how close he came to having his face literally eaten by a dragon.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Cleverness, wit, and confidence all mixed well and wrapped in an unfortunately bitter shell of pride and flimsy morals make up the core of Theren's being. He was raised with some pride by his father (a rider of some merit), which instilled in him a sense of superiority, of knowing more than his peers, of being outright better than them. He's been prepared all his life to follow his father's footsteps onto the sands and into the skies. Wish a sharp (but critical) eye, a keen mind, and the drive to do everything he put his hand to not just well, but well enough to stand out, he has never, ever been one to leave things unfinished.

He was born with the ugly gift for being able to give someone a compliment that manages to both sound genuine and scathing at once, and the social cleverness to know how and when and what to say. He is always looking down upon, but brilliant at feigning loyalty and respect for, those above him. Those skills in particular have kept him both alive and in control of his immediate future since the end of the war, thread's return, and even after his unfortunate savaging; his ego and sense of self-worth thriving in the face of challenges met.

What little genuine love he possesses is deeply hidden beneath a veil of distaste and exasperation. It is (or was) reserved for his younger brother and less so for his father. The rare instances he can be found being comforting, encouraging, or generous are laced with words of displeasure, scolding, or sighs, and even a few of the exalting (though false) praises he dishes out for the rest of the world. For the rest of humanity he has little time or care to spend. The majority of them aren't worth note, and those that are seem more suited to being trod underfoot as he presses himself upwards on the ladder of life.

He is willing to do nigh anything to keep himself in comfort and security as he climbs, though he has yet to perpetrate anything entirely dastardly. Given the choice of an honorable means of making ends meet and a less-than-honorable route, he will nine times out of ten pick the honorable one, if only to be sure that in the eyes of those who might be watching he can be said to be clean. When no one is around to see, the choice becomes less certain. Which will yield greatest profit? Which is the more pleasant road to walk down? Does the dishonorable path involve making misery for those who, for whatever reason, have wronged him? As long as no one knows the limits of the things he would and wouldn't do, he is just as likely to dabble in the dark underbelly of life as rise above it.

He is at times petulant, and once given any level of power he is prone to using it as he sees fit, regardless of the opinions of others. After all, if they knew so much, why was he given the job and not them? No, the power is his, and his to use. And if some people get hurt in the process, well, he's always been apt at covering his tracks with misdirected blame and reasoning that seems sound when spun with such nice words.

Altogether he is an unsavory, selfish, conceited young man, with only his genuine skill at getting things done (and done well) to recommend him.
Pros: Confident, diligent, detail-oriented, intelligent, ambitious.
Cons: Acrimonious, treacherous, proud, overcritical, vengeful.

HISTORY
TW Death of a parent, hatching-style violence

FAMILY:
-M'var, 53, father, a rider at Igen Weyr, somewhat accomplished. Deceased 2767.
-Unknown mother, a non-rider at Igen.
-Mari, younger brother, 20, a weyrling at Igen Weyr. Estranged since early 2767.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None.
BIRTHPLACE: Igen Weyr
HISTORY: Theren was originally the oldest son of an up-and-coming rider at Igen Weyr. To Pern at large he were essentially no one, but in his own little world he was used to being, if not looked up to by the other weyrbrats, at least known. The war raged on in distant parts of Pern, but Igen afforded him a somewhat more normal childhood. For a while, at least. He decided he wanted to be a rider too by the time he could understand what a rider was, though by the time he was eight, nine, ten, his feelings about Igen's lack of involvement in the wide world's politics had turned...more strained. Certainly, they'd been involved in the war, but to what extent? He felt they should have done more, taken more, picked a side and come down hard, rather than what involvement they did have. But then, he had his little brother to mind, and that was imminently more important. Mari...Mari could do whatever he liked, since Theren was certain there was no chance of his kind, if reckless and childish brother being capable of doing anything that would get in his way or cost him his future. Everything was well and proper...until thread returned.

Barely a turn or two from being of age to become a rider, suddenly what that meant took a sharp swing leftwards. His father now had to fight, and the comfortable companionship of father and son and brother was rent into pieces. He and Mari were shuffled off to the creche too late to adopt the natural fit of those raised there...or at least, it was too late for Theren. Mari took to it like a duck to water, while Theren was more content to isolate himself, pouring himself into his chores and lessons and taking every chance he had to assist riders or weyrlings so as to be better prepared for his inevitable ridership.

He took to Igen's sands at 15, ready to impress and fight and claw his way to some sort of importance that would catch his busy father's eye again...but no dragon came for him. Mari joined him two turns later, and still no dragon came, for either of them. He spent six turns touching eggs and watching the rest of the world rise and fall and discover and grow, and waiting with bated breath for the one that would be his to no avail.

Then, at long last, in 2766 an egg seemed to call to him. It sang beneath his palm, huge and ruddy and alive. Perhaps it was only his long waiting and yearning that had made him think he felt...no. It would undoubtedly be his. On hatching day it split shell first of the lot, a strong, strutting bronze that well-suited the tall, strutting man. It pranced across the sands to stand at his feet, blue eyes whirling up as Mari applauded for his brother's long-awaited triumph...

...The hatchling savaged him, as well as those who tried to intervene, leaving him insensate in the edge of the sands. By the time he came around again, it was to find that he had, of course, failed to impress. His brother, however, had done so. As had his closest friends. All of them. One of them, a particularly close companion, had even impressed the same creature that'd done its best to end his chances permanently. They checked in on their wounded friend as they could, but weyrling life was demanding, and soon enough he was left alone, to recover physically and mentally on his own. His scars and the spectacle of the bloodshed on the sands left him something of a pariah, whispers trading between younger candidates that he'd tried to force a bond and thus been attacked. His father died in threadfall mere months later, and Theren quietly requested a transfer to Semaca Weyr, changed his name, and hopped the first dragon south.

Semaca, he decided, was in need of people enough as to not mind taking in damaged goods. "Rejects, rebels, and outsiders", wasn't it? Yes, he'd start fresh there, and then he'd show them all.

What type of candidate is your character: Dragon

What color/s are you willing to impress to?: Any.
What color/s does your character want?: Anything brown-sized/ranking or larger/higher.
Do you/your character have any personality preferences or concerns?: Theren would vastly prefer a dragon that is composed and mature, not an excitable or silly one. He'd prefer a partner that can work on his level, but would prefer a submissive dragon to a dominant one...in terms of its behavior towards him, at least.
Do you/your character have any other preferences or concerns?: His recent uhhhh misadventure has him more wary of aggression in hatchlings, but I say you gotta get back on that horse and ride to get over your fears.
Why do you think these choice/s would be a good fit?: He wants what he wants to suit his ego and his desires. I honestly think anything'd be funny. A vicious dragon to pit him against and help him get over his past trauma, a big soft sweetling to temper him. It's all good.

Do you have any preferences about the conditions of your character’s impression?: I ain't care.
Are you alright with your character getting hurt? What injury level is acceptable/what should be avoided?: Guy's already missing parts of his face...so yeah, sure, why not?

Is there anything you will ABSOLUTELY NOT accept?: Not really. Y'all know me.
