"I often make the mistake of thinking that something that is obvious to me is just as obvious to everyone else."
- Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

PRONOUNS: He/Him/His
ORIENTATION: Greyromantic Asexual

BIRTHDATE: Fall ####
AGE: 23 as of ####
LOCATION: High Reaches Weyr
OCCUPATION: Journeyman healer
WING: N/A

APPEARANCE
EYES: Light Brown
HAIR: Red-Brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: Roughly 5'11" and average
PLAY-BY: Art by Grimordius
FULL APPEARANCE:
Neilen has got light brown hair and light brown, nearly amber eyes, and only gently tanned skin. Time spent in the sun has darkened his skin and lightened his hair, but he still burns very easily. He has filled out well since his teenage years and now has an average build and a healthy weight. He actually has a fair bit of muscle considering his profession typically deals with the incapacitated. He has one scar above his right brow, angled and narrow and slanting toward his ear.

Clothing-wise, he clearly does not have an opinion for fashion. Practicality over fashion in all respects, with colouration leaning toward blander shades rather than vibrancy. Despite this (or perhaps as a result of this), his clothing is always well-washed and often newer--frequently replaced due to various stains and damages which come with a Healer's life. Older garments are meticulously scrubbed clean and turned into rags or cloth for bandage ties when necessary, so it's not unusual to see bits and pieces of former outfits in his rag or fastening-bandage collections.

Neilen almost always smells like some sort of healer herb or concoction. Usually Numbweed, as it is the most commonly-used. He wears a belt at his waist consisting of small satchels at all times consisting of various necessities (a container of numbweed, clean needles, suturing thread, various herbs, a few surgical knives, a roll of bandages, and common antidotes, to name a few), and when out of the "healers' quarters" he will carry a shoulder bag. The shoulder bag will often contain extra necessities, or items he would otherwise have to make an extra trip or send someone to retrieve, such as extra bandages and less-common antidotes. He is also armed with a pair of small belt knives, used for slicing particular herbs. He keeps a third tucked into one of his belt satchels, used exclusively to handle anything toxic.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Without speaking to him, Neilen strikes one as a hard-working, intelligent individual. A little rough around the edges, but good to have around in an emergency or when things need to be taken care of immediately. He is very detail-oriented and tends to notice small things that not many others may pick up on, works well by himself, and once set to a task will typically be hard to sway from it. Working as a healer this mindset seems to be invaluable, sometimes allowing him to help those who may have been dismissed by others as "minor" or "too far gone." He does also tend to be practical, however, so he is not afraid to make sacrifices he deems as necessary.

Neilen as a person is actually quite hard to get close to. He has a very blunt, crisp way of speaking, is notoriously impatient with others (humans), and will hold a grudge for a very long time. Despite all his practicality, he is also impulsive--especially when it comes to those who need medical help, and will often leap before he looks. His attention to detail can easily become nearly obsessive, looking for things which may not be there, and he may even begin to nitpick--verbally or otherwise. His "hard-working" ethic often becomes detrimental to his health as he frequently overworks himself to exhaustion.

While working excellently by himself, he does not work particularly well as part of a team and often has difficulty functioning with others, as his own way of organizing things often frustrates all parties involved. Neilen is seen typically working out of one specific area, and he has his belongings organized in a very particular fashion which oftentimes to others seems a disorganized mess. Any attempt to "clean" by another party either his quarters or his section of a healers' working area will not result well for any involved. While not physically aggressive, he is not at all afraid to let someone know when they have wronged him, even if said wronging was incredibly minor by the standards of others.

He does not typically like physical contact, but this may change if he forms a close enough bond with someone.

HISTORY
FAMILY: Father (R'tel of Blue Jagath), Mother (Nellia, Greenrider of Telgar)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY:
Neilendis is the result of a green's flight. Although he was aware of both of his parents, he was raised in the creche like many other weyrborn children of riders. He didn't see his father much at all, definitely not enough to build any sort of relationship with him, but was occasionally given Turnday gifts, while his mother visited as frequently as time allowed. He had a reasonable enough relationship with his mother and was rather fond of her, but grew up never quite feeling as if she were really his mother. She was like a strange relative that dropped in every few months for a little while. She seemed to care for him, though, so at least there was that.

Despite having, or perhaps due to having, both rider parents, he grew up without the desire of following in their footsteps and Impressing. Instead, he threw himself into his study and when he came of age he convinced his mother to take him to the Healer Hall, wanting to have the best education possible. Also, he would feel slightly less obligated to agree with becoming a Candidate, should his mother pressure him at some point. While Searchriders from Fort came more than once, Neilendis conveniently found himself too busy to go see if he was worthy of being Searched.

One day while taking a break from his lessons, Neil stumbled across a mother firelizard protecting her eggs. Accidentally alarming her into attacking him, he suffered some surprisingly serious wounds on his face and arms--though luckily only one of the ones on his face scarred. As a result, he has a slight aversion to Firelizards, but is merely more cautious around them rather than outright fearful.

For the most part, Neil stayed out of the spotlight and focused wholly on his studies. He avoided the drama happening beyond the Hall whenever possible, viewing it as a distraction to his calling.

At twenty-one, he walked the tables to Journeyman. Although he considered travelling for a few months with his new status and finding a simple cothold to settle in, he opted to instead move to High Reaches and volunteer his services there. While he still had no desire to become a Rider, he had missed the Weyr life while in the Hall.

Glyn

"'Today is the same as yesterday. Tomorrow is the same as today.' Did you think that would last forever?"

BASICS

NAME: Glyn
GENDER: Fluid
PRONOUNS: he/him/his, she/her/hers, occasionally they/them/their
ORIENTATION: Undecided

BIRTHDATE: Fall ??
AGE: 15 as of ??
LOCATION: Fort Weyr
OCCUPATION: Weyrfolk
WING: N/A

APPEARANCE
EYES: Grey
HAIR: Black-Brown
HEIGHT AND BUILD: Average height, gangling teenage build
PLAY-BY: Picrew.me
FULL APPEARANCE:
As a teenager still going through puberty, Glyn is a somewhat awkward and gangling individual. It's impossible to tell whether they'll be a handsome adult, though it does seem they'll at least be of average height. Grey eyes and black hair on the browner spectrum, they keep their hair longer rather than shorter, falling just around to the midpoint on their back and kept pulled into a messy tail. Their fringe is kept shorter and loose, just brushed out of their eyes. Clothing-wise they like dark colours rather than lighter, though not for any attempt to blend into the darkness.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Kind, compassionate, and understanding, Glyn is an individual who is very slow to anger. They also seem to have little real ambition, having more fun exploring the world around them and learning various crafts than actually picking something and pursuing it. This isn't to say they aren't bright--they actually learn quickly, excelling in a majority of the crafts they pick up, but... well. They can't pick just one and pursue it. Not for lack of attention span, just... lack of interest. They want to do everything, and nothing.

Unfortunately, their kindly nature makes them extremely passive, and an easy target for someone's hostility. They're more likely to sit and simply deal with aggression rather than lash out or report it. Overall, they're indifferent toward conflict, preferring to stay out of it and let it sort itself out and ignoring personal harassment. They'll get bored eventually after lack of reaction, after all.

HISTORY
FAMILY: N/A
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
Glyn was born in Fort Weyr to a tryst between a rider and a resident of the Weyr following a flight. Their parents weren't exactly the "parenting" type and they were raised primarily by the Creche with only limited knowledge on their parentage. This didn't bother them at all, as many of the others in the creche were in similar situations. Thus, they had many creche-siblings to interact with, though for a majority of their youth were quiet and reserved, only maintaining a small collection of friends at any time.

They were young when the first Garnet dragons were Hatched, too young to understand the politics of things and what it meant for Pern, or care why the adults were suddenly in a fit about dragons. In fact, this event was largely overshadowed by the various attacks on Fort by High Reaches, though they only have vague recollection of the incidents. Mostly that they were being forced to stay inside and not go play, and that the dragons were projecting weird emotions that they didn't like. Shortly following was more violence by the new gold dragon, Serapheth.

They're slightly older when two dragons fight on the Hatching Sands and wound an egg, which is followed by an exodus of riders from Fort. Glyn doesn't seem to care one way or another on the topic, thinking that they shouldn't have fought if they didn't want to be punished. Quickly, they learned they did not care for politics and it was better to let the riders sort things out for themselves.
