[Event] The Wagon Incident

A broken, abandoned wagon has been found outside of the Weyr. Nothing was stolen, but there is no sign of the owner, or the runners who pulled it. It's as if they just vanished.

Spring was practically at their doorstep, and Daedra couldn't be happier. Of course, winter had yet to release it's firm grip, and didn't seem like it would be completely gone for some time. Still, the occasional sunny day that peeked from the thick grey clouds was always welcome in her eyes.

She and Drask had been enjoying the crisp air when they came across the wagon cart. Daedra hadn't even noticed it at first, only pausing when she felt the wher beside her stiffen up. Wordlessly, the handler took a step back and waited as Drask cautiously moved ahead. It was a well rehearsed routine between them. One step after another, he would pause and look about, sniffing at the air to try and find anything out of place.

Eventually, Drask made it to the side of the cart. He checked around it and vaguely inside it before gesturing in Daedra's direction. It was all clear and safe to approach, which is what the small woman did immediately. Trotting over beside the wher, the redhead let out a small hum as she let her hand run over the wooden side of the cart. This all certainly brought up some memories.

"I wonder who owned this cart," Daedra murmured aloud. Drask let a whuff in reply, leaving her to explore along the item as she pleased while he kept her eyes moving elsewhere. Something seemed unsettling about this...

Grabbing ahold of the sides, Daedra hoisted herself up inside the cart with practiced ease. There was nothing left inside, she noticed, not even scraps or things someone might have forgotten to take.

"It's too small for a caravan cart, so I guess it was a personal one. It doesn't even look damaged."

Daedra walked along the main body of the cart, still trying to find the reason it had been discarded like this. She found it, when she made her way to the very back. Her sudden weight brought forth a cracking sound from one of the back wheels and the entire cart instantly shifted. The redhead let out a surprised yelp as she grabbed at the siding. Thankfully, the other three wheels were solid enough to keep the cart stable, other than an awkward tilt to the one corner.

Not a terrible tragedy but still requiring atleast a new wheel. For some, that could be a repair too steep to bother with.

Daedra shifted herself back towards the front of the wagon, bracing as it shifted to a proper stance. Still unsure of what to make of the situation, she merely lowered herself to sit, letting her legs dangle off near the two tongues that would have attached to the runner.

By then, Drask had surveyed the area well enough, finally returning to the vehicle's side. He briefly sniffed about the extended wooden posts, recalling his times serving as the 'pack beast' for such a thing. Certainly not his most pleasured job, but an easy one. A cart like the one beside him, even filled to the brim, would be little effort to pull (for a wher like him anyway). The brown suddenly heard an almost woeful sigh and he looked just in time to see Daedra raise her arms and gently recline herself back to lay upon the wagon bed.

From her place below, Daedra stared up to the sky; bright blue with some lingering clouds drifting by. It was so vast and open, looking exactly as it always did. It was strange... no matter where she'd ever been before, the sky always seemed the same... Even so close to High Reaches, near Holds and so many other people, the sky was just as it was whether there are in the deepest part of a forest or near the mountains.

"I remember when we had a cart for ourselves once," she quietly spoke up. To herself or to Drask, it didn't matter really. "Do you remember that, Drask? It seemed like it was ages ago... but it probably wasn't really that long. It was so much smaller than this... I remember you could barely fit between the posts to pull it!"

Image
The brown merely snorted in reply. Of course he remembered that pitiful excuse of a cart. It was so measly, he could have placed it on his back and walked it around with more ease. He also remembered the one before that... the one that wasn't 'theirs'. It had been the first time he'd been restrained in such a thing... He'd hated it just because of that.

"I wonder if someone Holdless owned this one, too. I can't imagine it was an easy decision to leave it..."
