Candidate Licoriss - Adella

His breath caught as the egg hatched and slowly made her way towards Adella and himself. For once, he wasn't hoping that he had impressed. Adella had been through so much and, even though he was sure he was going to be sore tomorrow, he was hopeful that she would impress.

As her eyes swirled rainbows to Adella, he let go of her and stepped back, a faint smile on his face, "Congratulations, Adella. She's beautiful."

For once, the intense jealousy he felt towards people who impressed wasn't there. Perhaps he genuinely felt happy for Adella, instead of his normal scowls at other people for impressing.

After all, she had invited him to stand with her and her friend group earlier.

Weyrling A'del of Garnet Olturath - Licoriss, Xena, Impression post

Adella smiled through her tears, Licoriss was very sweet! " You are right... forgive my tears and leaping on you.. again. I was just.." She started but then she watched Nebulaeth nudge the egg and felt the tears flowing again, a mother clearly distressed for the life of her child. But as the egg began to wobble and and crack, she clutched her hands together into fists. " Yes.. that's it, you can do it.." She said softly to herself and finally the egg popped open and reveal the beauty within, She was so beautiful, full of life and she had done it, she had hatched.

As the dragonette made their timid track across the sands, Adella's eyes didn't leave them and she worried the baby, having not had a chance to really get to know the candidates on the sands might be panicked but as they moved about, hissing at candidates and then stopping in front of.. HER?!

" Let's leave. Now. Leaving. Now."

The voice rang in her mind and blue eyes met rainbow swirling ones and Adella had been around long enough to know exactly what that meant and the sudden flood of anxiety mixed with hunger flowed into her mind and she knew the link for what it was.

Not hesitating a moment longer, she knelt down, pulling the fabric from her hair and let her flow down her back as she took the cloth and gently wiped the egg goop from the baby's face, careful around her eyes. " She is very hungry and wants to be off the sands and I do not blame her. Thank you for standing with me, Licoriss and Xena. I will be in the stands when your big day comes, I promise." She said, her voice thick with emotion.

She then wrapped her arms around her dragon and lifted her up, like a mother cradling her newborn babe and slowly left the sands, and getting over to the feeding buckets.

" Its okay Olturath.. I am here, you are safe and you are so loved. I will always be here for you. Let's get you fed then we can leave and go get you nice and bathed, doesn't that sound nice?" Adella said softly, ignoring the fact that she too was still crying a bit. " Yes, that sounds nice.. A'del."

The baby survived.. her Olturath, her bonded, her soulbond.. her very own little survivor.

Candidate Joffrey - Malady, the hero dragonet who likes finger foods

CW: blood/loss of finger

Joffrey was so engrossed with arguing with Malady that he didn’t notice the attacking dragonet at first. As the hatchling clamped down on his finger, he shrieked. “It’s going to eat me alive!” But the attack soon broke off, and Joffrey stared at the stump of his finger in abject horror.

The color drained from his face as the half finger steadily oozed blood. Weakly squeaking like a dying Muppet, he sunk to the sands in a dead faint. An exasperated-looking healer came to drag him to the sidelines. A foul smell seemed to follow him off the sands. Maybe that latrine stink had never come off, after all. But more likely Joffrey laid his own brown dragon in his oh-so-traumatic ordeal. He would live to stink up another day.

E'nel Of Bronze Xalemeth - Max

E'nel smiled, "Your hobby is a useful , creative and beautiful one. I can’t imagine having the patience to hone such a skill- truly, it is honourable." he crossing his arms relaxing into his seat "As well, you're quite lucky, not many riders can say they share a passion with their dragon. Rainieth choose well"

E'nel was quite unphased by all the blood and maulings. Way of life, he shrugged unbothered . "I don't believe so, I've heard a candidate was thrown from the sands during the touching though. Maulings are run of the mill here either way, I assume you didn’t impress at Semaca? At Xalemeth's own hatching a blue broke his rider's nose. I'm lucky he decided not to bite me. Was your hatching violent?"

For most of the hatching, E'nel reminded quiet to allow space for the artist to work. He admired each dragonet, nodding in approval at all of them . When the chimera hatched, a ferocious best of greens with swirling purples, his jaw dropped. E'nel had never quite seen something like it, he leaned forward to get a closer look. "By Xalemeth's egg, what a stunner! I had almost forgotten dragons could come in such wonderous mixes of colours."

The last egg, did not move. Xalemeth’s focus sharpened on it, E’nel could feel the bronze tensing up. His rage would be heard if it did not hatch. E'nel held his breath when...... a garnet! And what a pretty creature she was! "Gosh, I think this clutch has made be grow greys early..." he chuckled nervously, glancing over at the full class of dragons. ”There will be a lively feast to celebrate, might I request your company to it night?” E’nel smiled, courteously offering his arm to Maxine.

Weyrling S'jay of Bronze Alzenoth

As they stood apart from everyone else, waiting for his long-awaited glory to befall them, Sanjay habitually listened to what fragments of surrounding conversations they could pick up; it was an easy and casual way to understand one's competition, and possibly arm one's self against them. But he found nothing worth his time. Not a single one of these Candidates interested him; not for a weapon, not for a tool, nor his own amusement. Trivial, he sighed inwardly to himself, objecting once again that he must suffer such miserable company. And to think, he was expected to consider this ragtag group brothers and sisters in arms one day!

But as Scarlet Vow rocked more vigorously, cracked with greater force, Sanjay shifted his singular focus to it once more. In a shower of shell fragments and egg goop, a bronze emerged before Semaca, immediately demonstrating his strength and merit in an impressive display. Sanjay was immediately enamored, though he appeared as impassive as ever. But said bronze didn't seem as interested in his options, glaring at Semaca's Candidates in clear disdain as he began moving toward them. Joffrey, foolish dimglow he was, was so bold as to extend a hand to him, but earned his just reward in short order. Nebulaeth's firstborn retaliated by biting Joffrey's hand and pulling him down hard, before promptly stepping on him and carrying on his way.

Some part of Sanjay felt incredibly vindicated in seeing a fellow Candidate be so humiliated before all of Semaca, but he didn't let Joffrey's reality check and what bleating followed hold his focus for long; he had much more important matters to address, such as a certain spectacular bronze hatchling approaching him.

Everything in Sanjay's vision was consumed by rainbows in that once-in-a-lifetime moment of Impression, and a voice, smooth and powerful, entered his mind. It was a voice that made one want to listen, to heed his every command, to cater to his every whim. Hm, he mused. I suppose you're the best pick of this pathetic lot. You'll do. Now come, feed me. Sanjay blinked to clear his vision, but regarded Alzenoth as cooly as ever once he did, as though his face was frozen in a permanent expression of neutrality, regardless of how alive he felt. At long last, his moment of triumph had come, and a greater future with it. At long last, he would be more than who he was before, power at his fingertips and his fate in his own two hands.

Let Semaca witness them, S'jay and...

Alzenoth, S'jay greeted. I understand it must've been difficult to detect my quality among countless unworthy Candidates, but I assure you, I will more than do. Really? Alzenoth answered, eyes somehow narrowing further. Well, how about you put some meat in your hands rather than your fate. I told you to feed me. S'jay frowned. That wasn't exactly what he'd expected from his bronze, his long-awaited lifemate, and his greatest ally. But still, he couldn't deny he felt hunger gnawing in his belly like something monstrous, Alzenoth's needs blurring into his own, his awareness of his dragon fresh and raw and...so, so unrefined.

To ease that uncomfortable feeling, S'jay recognized they needed to act and nodded once, an almost curt answer to Alzenoth's demand, to which Alzenoth responded with a snort; clearly, they needed to work on a few things. Together, they walked toward where meat waited in buckets, putting all else behind them, for all else was irrelevant. S'jay cared not for his once classmates, especially while he was apart from them all; Alzenoth hatched first, meaning he was first of his weyrling class, and he looked to no one as his equal for but one wonderful moment.

Be quick about it, Alzenoth quipped upon arriving at a bucket of meat, curling his tail irritably at his haunches. Though his nose wrinkled ever so subtly as he picked up a morsel of meat, S'jay did as he was bid and offered it to his waiting bronze, though whether his change of expression was in disgust at touching raw meat or annoyance at being ordered around by a newborn dragon was hard to distinguish. Alzenoth wolfed down his first piece of meat before snorting once. Good, he praised. Again. S'jay sighed, but obliged, hoping that Alzenoth would outgrow this phase.

Maxine of Green Rainieth - E'nel

" They were occasional in Telgar too, that is where I impressed Rainieth but I really didn't have many friends there. I came to Semaca after Rainieth and I graduated and have been here for a while. Lost my leg here to two spotties that attacked our squad while were investigating a strange six limbed beastie of some kind. I am fortunate enough that all I lost was my leg, thanks to the quick thinking of a squadmate that I will forever be grateful for." She replied with a smile, able to talk about her ordeal now without it triggering a panic attack. In fact, these days, she was proud to speak about her ordeal, she survived!

" Oh wow.. that is quite the colors and pattern, I almost missed some details it was so intricate. Your dragon sired a very spirited brood so far." She remarked, cringing a bit at the amount of attacks these dragonets were doing but like wild animals, she understood it and also never held any grudge against the spotties that took her leg, they were just animals doing what they knew honestly.

When the last egg hatched, Max made a sigh of relief. " Oh that one is beautiful. Seems to be healthy enough, a survivor of a nasty attack, I can relate to you kiddo." She muttered then felt her face flush slightly and it was not the heat. Was someone actually wanting her company?

She did not hesitate though. " I'd love to. As long as you don't mind moving a bit slower than most. I got this bum leg you see.." She replied, grinning brightly. She took his offered arm after closing her journal of sketches and securing it in her satchel. Grabbing her cane with her free hand, she used that to lean her weight into, so not to force E'nel to bare her weight and rose up. " Hope they will have some cool drinks, I am about to roast out here." She added, definitely glad that she had the sense to keep her hair short, given this heat.

A'tu of Brown Edoraeth - Tag: Tychon

A thoughtful hum was given for a moment as he pondered these words but a moment before nodding in agreement. "I suppose it wasn't all bad. You are right, though you're one of the few with whom I think that quality time was favorable." He nodded in an almost matter of fact way. Two could tease. Though one had to wonder just how even a match the young blonde haired man would be.

He gave another nod and glanced up toward his Brown. "I'll talk with Edoraeth and see what he thinks. He might surprise me and go all noble and tell me that gambling precious things away was a fool's errand or some such silliness like that. Then again, he might be fully on board... Never can tell with him. But if he does it, I would bet he could talk a few more of the fellows into trying it out." He nodded as he imagined a draconic betting ring. He wasn't sure if that sounded fantastic or horrifying. Then again he wasn't sure just how many of them would like such things. He wasn't honestly even sure Edoraeth would want to really... Most of what he said was just off handed comments that came to his brain in the moment. Planning ahead was not his strong suit.

"You're not wrong... If we weren't meant to laugh, then why did the funniest things proceed people getting hurt? Especially if they had it coming to them. I don't know that candidate well, but the whispers around the Weyr say he's not very well liked." He shrugged a tad as it really wasn't any problem for him... The kid didn't get that badly hurt, but that definitely set quite the tone for this hatching.

That jovial easy going grin took a little bit of a slyness to it at Tychon's statement regarding his dragon. "That's what I would hope. Our bonded's should be our top priority no? So pride in our partner comes easily and it bolsters when others take note of their magnificence." Just then came another brassy bugle from the dragon viewing area and A'tu cringed just a bit. Yea... That was his. He grinned as he looked over his shoulders just in time to see Edoraeth up on his feet bellowing his congratulations for some new pair or other. He turned his gaze back to the sands to watched the latest impression. For all the violence, the Hatching really was going off well.

"You're not wrong... I think that ours could have used a bit more action maybe...
But then again, we did have a certain Blue pair that caused quite a bit of a stir. But you're right... Barring one or two, ours was calm by comparison. Though... All things considered, I'd take that over being bitten or trampled repeatedly. This kind is more fun to watch."
But he nodded with a grin as he continued to watch the dragons emerge, then violently find their bondeds. Now not all were violent... And all were quite beautiful indeed. Tychon's flowery speech did not go unnoted and it was very true. They did have quite the lovely flock to be sure.

A'tu didn't move from his reclined position against Tychon until one of two things happened, either the man indicated that he tired of his proximity or that the last egg hatched. He was comfortable after all and nothing seemed to stir him from his position. But as he watched, one of the most beautiful beasts he'd seen came flying from shell... Greens and purples all melded into one toxic beauty... And an attitude to match. Fierce in her angry tirade, she attacked that one young man that seemed like a danger magnet only to cause such damage in her wake it was fairly shocking even to the laid back easy going young man there in the stands. This was made evident by the tension that grew within him as he watched, before shifting to sit up a little straighter. Hadn't he just finished saying no one had lost any fingers yet? Good night...

Well the hatching soon would wrap itself up with the last few hatchings and impressions... Including the long awaited little wounded egg... It did hatch, and what a beauty slipped from it's confines as well. But so scared... He shook his head a little as the timid little thing zipped toward her bonded looking like she wanted nothing more than to flee the scene and not look back. But just like that she impressed and it was over. A'tu sighed slightly and looked back to Tychon. "Well that's that... All healthy, all bonded, and oh what a time the Weyrling Masters will have... And they thought we were bad." His eyes twinkled with a mischievous glint.
