In celebration of the happy draconic parents and Bre'q newly of Blue Ostoriath, a special blue-colored tart has been prepared for dinner. Make sure to give Lancel, D'ax and Bre'q the first pieces!

El'ech stared suspiciously at the tart. Blue was not a color that belonged in food. Oh, sure, there were berries that were a very dark purplish-blue, and there were blue flowers, but nothing that was edible--or at least edible and actually good-tasting--had ever quite been this hue. Knowing the occasionally laissez-faire attitude some in the kitchens often took toward culinary experimentation with possibly-unsafe foods... it was probably poisonous.

"Surely nobody is actually going to eat that, right?" he commented in a tone that was meant to sound conversational but at a volume that was far more accusatory. "It can't possibly be safe for human consumption. Or possibly for anyone's consumption. I wouldn't put it past a goat to eat it and then fall ill."

He'd seen it happen before. Not with probably-poisonous tarts, but there were some crops that were dangerous to certain types of beast. They seemed to be inevitably drawn toward the things that weren't safe to eat, even when the forbidden foods were surrounded by perfectly delicious and nutritious grasses. Runnerbeasts seemed particularly prone to it, making a beeline toward the one thing in sight that would make them sick.

Brabbop hummed happily to himself as he plopped down at an open seat, plate piled high with the specialty blue tarts. They were a curious color, one that was completely unnatural for food to be, and Brabbop was enamored. He couldn't wait to try one of the treats.

He picked one up with his hands, not bothering to deal with manners or utensils, and took a massive bite. "Oh, dis is good." He exclaimed through a mouthful of sweets. The flavor was familiar, but one he couldn't exactly place. Whatever it was, he was glad he had grabbed multiple as he continued to eat.

"You gotta try dis," he encouraged the rider he had sat across from, pointing at the alarmingly blue dish. "It's good. Fruity, but just a lil bit sour."

Bre'q of Blue Ostoriath - El'ech, Brabbop

It had been a long time since Bre'q had moved to the weyrling quarters. It felt like a lifetime ago. In a way it was. But this time, it was with Ostoriath, and this time it would just be the two of them. No classmates to take the attention off of them. It was going to be an odd adjustment, but they just had to get through weyrlinghood and they'd be one more rider pair of no real consequence.

Oh no, Ostoriath countered. No, we will not be fading into the background. I doubt that we'll be leading the Weyr anytime soon, but there is no reason, none at all, why we cannot stand out in our own way. The blue was not about to be the wallflower Bre'q had done her level best to be since the death of her last bond. He was simply not that sort of dragon.

Bre'q just sighed and finished packing up her scant belongings, and moving them into the weyrling quarters, put on clean clothes (she didn't have anything appropriate for a celebration in her honor, but too late to worry about that now, she just tried not to look like a disheveled mess) and the pair made their way to the dining den.

Bre'q had every intention of grabbing a slice of the blue tart - had the kitchens prepared tarts of every color just in case? Faranth, she hoped not, that would be such a waste of effort and resources just for her - and then tucking herself into a corner. But that was not Ostoriath's style. He herded her towards one of the tables where another bluerider and a candidate were sitting. Bre'q picked at her tart, eating slowly so she wouldn't be expected to answer people.

Good day, gentle folk, Ostoriath said to those already at the table. At the risk of giving you redundant information, I am Ostoriath and my rider is Bre'q. It is a pleasure to meet you both.

"I do not believe the cooks would serve us something known to be poisonous," Bre'q said. "It would not be prudent for them to allow their threadfighters and other, supporting members of the Weyr to fall ill on their watch." As if to prove her point, she took another bite of her tart.

It would seem that you are outvoted in terms of the quality of this blue food you find so strange, Ostoriath said to El'ech. And to the candidate, I am pleased to hear that the cooks have done their job well in crafting the dish for this occasion.
