The eggs were on the sands. Once more they weren't Saiyath's, but they'd been laid, and there were a full dozen of them. This was a good thing for V'geta's new Weyr, and therefore a good thing for V'geta. Even if Saiyath hadn't managed to woo Nebulaeth any better than he'd managed the Queens back at Benden. Twelve turns this summer, and Saiyath still had never won a Queen.

The short, angry man made his way into the dining den - not even a proper dining hall! - and fetched himself a helping of wherry pot pie. At least the food was generally decent enough here in his brief experience. Surely among the dregs allowed to populate this place, V'geta and Saiyath would shine.

"Whoof, who pissed in your klah this morning?" Le'na drawled as he passed V'geta while carrying his own meal. "I can smell the resentment from here. Be angry a little to the left, you might be able to scare a few birds to death." Though he was still new-ish out of weyrlinghood, it was common sense to not antagonize your wingmates. Le'na was in a teasing mood, however, and the extra half a foot he had over the bronzerider gave him an additional boost of confidence. "Being angry all the time isn't good for your health. You'll get shorter faster."

Eyes narrowing, V'geta gave a small, noncommittal grunt. The taller man - not tall, about average height, but still far taller than V'geta - was also a member of Nocturne Wing, which meant V'geta had to work with him. It didn't mean V'geta had to lower himself to actually being friendly.

He just wanted to eat in peace, and maybe he'd be allowed that. The fellow wasn't sitting down, at least not yet. Get shorter faster indeed.

The lack of a reply didn't deter Le'na at all. Instead, it spurred him on, and he made a split second decision to sit directly across from V'geta. Of course the man didn't want him there, but that just made him want to sit there more.

When I said I wanted you to interact with people more, this wasn't what I meant. Jeroth admonished, completely disapproving of his rider's antics. Leave him alone.

We're in the same wing, I should get to know him better, Le'na replied airily as he made himself comfortable before tucking in. "Mmm, good as usual. 's the food good where you're from?" He vaguely remembered that V'geta transferred from somewhere, but he couldn't remember from where. Not that it mattered, they were all misfits down here.

V'geta glared at the other man's shoulder knot, so much like his own. One loop under the arm, one over. Brown and red to indicate Semaca - that red was gratingly non-traditional; every other Weyr used black. Black to note that they were riders, purple to indicate they were members of Nocturne. Only the color of the threads for their bondmates was different - bronze for him for Saiyath, and that slightly pinkish red they'd assigned to indicate garnets in this invader.

Those knots meant they were supposed to get along. V'geta wasn't interested.

"Food is food," he grunted, reluctant to make asinine conversation. He wasn't particularly interested in contrasting the cooks at Benden with the cooks at Semaca, and the food was edible, so why did it matter?

"Good grief, I've had more exciting conversations with a rock," Le'na said with a snort mid-bite. "It won't kill you to talk to other people. I know from experience," He wouldn't say he was a stellar comedian, but that was pretty funny if he did say so himself. Jeroth didn't agree, apparently, but Jeroth wasn't here and he was a stick in the mud (pot, kettle).

"You have to like talking about something. Come on, I'll let you pick." He'd get this guy to break, somehow...
