Chaos [Open]

A big open space, this leads to the jungle as well as having a small farmed area and space for feeding and training!

Chaos [Open]

Renkestuous had been good for far too long. It had been worth it, of course. Lumuth was perfect, and had immediately shattered his obsession with Impressing blue. What blue, after all, could compare to his beloved bondmate? She was such a lovely little darling and very willing to put up with his impulses to accent her beauty with anything that came to hand.

Still, Ren wasn't exactly known for being still or well-behaved, and his self-imposed restriction from doing anything wild while there were eggs on the sands made him feel positively itchy. And now that he had Lumuth, well, the worst that could happen to him was that he might be stuck in Lamentoso upon graduation from weyrlinghood. Even that would be temporary, and he could be good for a little while to earn his way out and into a proper wing. Minuet was his destiny, and he'd make it there eventually, no matter what.

As such, Renkestuous had 'borrowed' a fast-looking runner from where she was corralled, hooked her to a nice flat raft he'd fashioned from jungle fronds, and was ready to have some fun. Lumuth was napping, and he was probably supposed to be about something or other, but this was clearly more important.

Standing on the admittedly makeshift raft, Renkestuous tested his balance, then grinned and smacked the runner's rear to urge it into as fast a pace as he could get out of it.

K'rin's life was perfect, now that he had bonded a dragon. His life was perfect, and his dragon was perfect, and he had absolutely no more worries in life. Certainly not that he was even more watched and ordered around as a weyrling. And definitely not that Lantrath soaked in every word their teachers spoke, and then dogged K'rin about following them to the letter.

As he was doing at that moment. K'rin, old sport, hadn't you really ought to be working on your parchments -- or those exercises, what, so we'll be ready to fly?

Luckily, Lantrath was loyal to K'rin above anyone else -- most of the time -- by a hair, anyway. And he was still small enough for K'rin to tug him along bodily. So K'rin was using his every muscle and his every bit of sway over Lantrath to strongly persuade him to come down to the Plateau and have some fun.

See, Lantrath, there's Renkestuous. If he can be out here, so can we.

At least K'rin thought it was Renkestuous -- the figure was blurring and moving so chaotically.

He quickened his run through the jungle grasses, shouting, "Ren? Shards, WHAT are you doing? What is that thing? Awesome by the way --"

The runner was definitely out of his control, and as K'rin called out to him, Renkestuous's attention was drawn away from staying upright, and he tumbled to the ground, bruised and scraped - but whole, and laughing. "Off, beast got away from me," he complained as he brushed himself off and regained his feet, shaking his head as he smiled down at the other weyrling.

"I made myself a sort of - of land-raft," Renkestuous explained, peering after the runner and wondering whether it was going to stop any time soon. It seemed to be slowing, at least. "Lumuth is napping, so I thought I'd have some fun! And if we can't catch that runner, you and I can put together another raft-thing, and grab another runner to pull it!"

Never mind that they were definitely not supposed to be doing this. It was fun, and that was all that mattered!

"A land-raft," K'rin repeated, watching the runner-beast flee. "It'll be almost like flying. When do you think we'll be able to fly?"

Lantrath hung back, head swinging back and forth. When he saw that his sister wasn't there, he retreated another step. Still, G'day, Renkestuous, he said politely.

K'rin twisted around and cried, "Lantrath, help grab us some more of these plants. And vines, maybe, to tie them together?"

The contraption HAD looked fun. Truly almost like flying. Maybe he could pile on with K'rin -- no, no, he was to keep himself and his dragonrider in line! So that they could stay ship-shape (K'rin's 'pirate slang' was infectious) to fight thread, so that Semaca and all of Pern could stay safe. This was Lantrath's mantra to himself, repeated to keep it snug in his brief memory.

I think not, old chap. Had we really ought to be, erm, appropriating runner-beasts? and jerry-rigging.. ah.. that thing?

"Ought, schmought," K'rin said. He returned to Lantrath, not wanting to be far from his dragon, then crouched and started gathering likely-looking plants. "Ren, tell him we're fine!"

"It's not really like flying," Renkestuous said knowledgably, "but it is - absolutely exhilarating." A different sensation than being dragon-back, like Ren had been with his father, but still really great. "I think the dragons start flying at six or seven months? But some of us will have to wait a little longer." Ren and Lumuth would probably have to, since Lumuth was so small and Ren was so tall. "I bet you and Lantrath will be flying right on schedule, though."

Lantrath was, in Renkestuous's observation, a bit of a stick in the mud. It was no wonder that K'rin had to argue with him about Renkestuous's plan. "I fell and I'm just fine," Renkestuous added. "We'll be just fine!" Ought was such an annoying word. He hated being bound by what he ought to do.

"C'mon, Lantrath, do you hear? Exhilarating! Also, what are V'san and E'nyo always shouting about? Teamwork. What is this? Teamwork!"

Lantrath made a considering snort. At the end of the day, when his most loved person and another that he couldn't help trusting both agreed... Right, very well then, old thing, I suppose I don't see why not.

Hesitations removed, he set to his task, sinking his teeth with enthusiasm into the plants that caught his fancy and dragging them back to the riders.

Lantrath, these are really more like sticks...

Good for the old teeth. Must keep 'em sharp.

K'rin shrugged at his dragon's peculiarities.

Once they had a good pile, he threw himself down on the grassy meadow floor. As he tried to puzzle out how to create a firm platform out of the leaves and vines, he asked Renkestuous, "Which wing are you gonna join? Which wing is the best?"

Renkestuous smiled broadly when Lantrath agreed and started bringing in plants for them to work with. They weren't the broad leaves that Ren had used the first time, but they'd do. He started fashioning them into another "land-raft", then grinned as K'rin asked about wings.

"Minuet!" he answered immediately. "I was born to be in a high-flying wing." He didn't care if it was in Semaca or in a more traditionally structured Weyr. Minuet would suit him perfectly, and honestly, he was really enjoying Semaca since he'd transferred. It was wild and new; that was ideal for him.

"What about you?" he asked K'rin. He kind of hoped that he and Lantrath would choose Minuet as well; he and Lumuth were pretty attached to the blue pair. K'rin was starting to feel like the little brother Renkestuous had never had, and Lantrath was definitely Lumuth's favorite of her siblings.
