When I smash into you"

FULL APPEARANCE: Ky'ze's hair is a straw blonde in color, worn down in a casual braid. It's relatively straight (unlike them), and long enough to span their back while braided. The hair framing their face, however, is shorter, just past the chin, and barely long enough to fit into the loose braid they wear, should they try. Their eyes are a brilliant blue, reminiscent of the ocean, and their skin is tanned. They have a tendency towards surprisingly subtle colors in their clothing, but do enjoy wearing more ornate things when they get the chance. Clothing with multiple parts may be preferred, but they rarely wear the bright colors that one might assume they would. They have a fine sense for fashion, and enjoy wearing more expensive things, putting great effort into looking nice. They do not wear dresses, and prefer to make their own fashion rules, when it comes to what is proper and traditional, at least. They're of average height, around 5'9", with a sturdy, strong build. That said, they look more feminine than not, so they compensate with masculine clothing.
From the mauling, their left arm has scarring and has limited range of motion. Also, their legs sport various scars, and they walk with a slight limp. They only feel pain from their injuries rarely, usually in rainy weather, however.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Ky'ze has always been impulsive and ambitious--but they used to be naive and optimistic as well. They had a goal, one that lacked focus and definition: they wanted to create a legacy.
They got their legacy, alright--that of someone who almost sent their dragon between. They feel a lot of guilt and regret--not to mention shame--over the biggest mistake they could have ever made. They have started to second guess themselves, and often fail to make decisions. They freeze up, as if afraid they will make a mistake, in most stressful situations. They're still friendly and sociable, but less so than they used to be. Instead of wanting the best for themselves, they care only about Olarith. It's more than just love for one's dragon...it's guilt. He deserves something nice, so they are determined to give it to him. Above all else, Olarith's happiness is their goal, and they pursue it singlemindedly.
More focused and serious than they used to be, they nonetheless remain somewhat resilient. They struggle when people judge them, mostly due to questions of their own worth/past, but are generally friendly and determined. The world is no longer theirs for the taking, but they throw themselves into their duties with the singlemindedness of someone who wants, desperately, to repair the damage they've done. No longer confident, but still energetic and stubborn...just less so. You can't change their mind, but they might not make up their mind in the first place! They don't know what they want or how to do it, and have felt strange ever since Impressing. Their experience will never go away, but they tend to avoid thinking about or processing it, no matter how important or pressing it is. As a result, they tend to avoid anyone who was affected by the incident, save for their sister, and avoid the subject above all else. That said, they now take responsibility for their actions, but perhaps too much so. Shards, they shouldn't have dropped that plate, now they're terrible and they're so sorry and it won't happen again?

BIRTHPLACE: Fort Hold
HISTORY: TW Severe Mauling/dragon trauma
Kyzier lived a very ordinary life. Born at Fort Hold to a harper and healer, they were the youngest child of three. Ondyn was first; Anoni was second; precious Kyzier was third. As the baby of the family, the family tended to dote on them, particularly their older sister, Anoni, who they had a very close relationship with. Kyzier, from a young age, loved music--especially singing. Their parents were so proud when they became an apprentice harper. There was only one aspiration they held higher than becoming a harper: becoming a dragonrider. From their youth, they had their eyes set on the skies. Fort searched their sister, and they were so jealous, hoping to follow her to Fort Weyr. Before they could get searched, however, Anoni transferred. They lost contact, falling off for a bit, but they did hear when she Impressed at Benden.
Life under Evander was difficult, in some ways. Tyranny was something they grew up with; oppression was not a foreign concept. That said, they were a child at the time, and didn't actually recognize it as wrong. Surely, the way things were--even the isolationist policies--were just...the way things were! They were still young when Evander was killed--only 14--but their quality of life changed immediately. That said, they never really got a chance to travel or explore, even after Evander's death. When they eventually left home, they would be thrilled at how large and free their world suddenly became.
When they were 18 or 19, a dragonrider came on search, one that found Kyzier suitable. Even if they hadn't begged the dragon, they would have been searched. They wanted to see the world! Ecstatic, especially given Fort's reputation in a post-Golre era, they looked forward to Impressing. Likely gold or bronze (shiny and big! AND good for ambitions! What a good combination!) but they'd be happy with any color. Confident and sure of themselves, they transferred for each and every clutch, a young hopeful, and at one of their first clutches--Semaca--they reunited with their sister, Anoni. They were thrilled to see her again, and connected again, immediately. Soon after, they touched the egg that would change their life forever. The egg basically confirmed that it was theirs, and they were so excited to Impress to such a good egg.
At the hatching, however, Kyzier was horribly mauled. It would leave them with a limp and scars on their legs, plus a broken arm, which despite healing, would always be slightly limited. They couldn't stand, but stubbornly refused to leave the sands. The healers insisted, and finally decided to move Kyzier against their will, but they were too late. A joyful Olarith stopped in his tracks at the moment of Impression and almost betweened. He was restrained and given to Kyzier.
They'd gotten their dragon, but at what cost? They felt like they'd alienated the weyr, hurt people, and worst of all...they'd traumatized and almost killed their dragon. Many people berated and blamed them, which they supposed was totally fair. They spent some time in the infirmary, a couple of weeks, awkwardly avoiding interaction with the healers that had tried to stop them. Guilt plagued them, along with embarrassment and shame. They were glad Olarith was with them, and he refused to leave their side for a while, but they wished they hadn't hurt him. Olarith, he always supported them, refusing to accept this opinion, but Kyzier--now Ky'ze--regretted staying. Olarith deserved someone else. Someone less selfish.
Anoni believed it wasn't their fault. Ky'ze almost wished she'd blame them, too. Almost. It didn't seem fair to blame the healers for their own stubborn stupidity, but they didn't mention that.
Eventually, Olarith adjusted, and Ky'ze left the infirmary. His fearful attitude abated, but he never quite lost the overprotectiveness, the slight tinge of fear. Anything happened to Ky'ze, and he would panic. They received punishment during weyrlinghood, which resulted in close supervision and the inability to leave the weyr alone.
Finally, they graduated. They "celebrated" by getting themselves a firelizard, hoping that the blue would act as a therapy flit for Olarith. Scream did help, and Olarith was often calmed by his presence. For a turn, they were assigned to Lamentoso Squad, before finally being allowed to move to a proper wing or squad. They chose a squad, and transferred to Mazurka Squad, hoping to avoid the dangers of threadfall. One turn as a weyrling, one in Lamentoso, and then finally, finally, a real squad. Quick to panic and worried about Ky'ze, Olarith was very against the idea, and thus, they remained in a squad, which would, hopefully, be less dangerous. They avoided people, especially Arena and the other healers. Arena seemed so upset about it, and they just...didn't know what to say. Even though they'd spent time in the infirmary around her, and the other healers, they'd mostly kept to themselves. As for Ophoth and Shallan, they avoided those too, despite not placing the blame on the hatchling for harming them. After all...Ophoth hadn't been the one to hurt Olarith, they figured.
Eventually, Olarith went back to being himself. They went on adventures (that were safe) together, and he was quite dashing--his charmingly roguish self. Kind of. There was always a tint of fear and nervousness, and he was never quite as confident as he'd felt in the shell. Forever, he would worry about the approval of others, and never trust his own judgment on important matters--even freezing up.
