FULL APPEARANCE: At 5'7", Zar doesn't quite cut an impressive figure, being rather small for a guy. While his form is relatively free of curves and on the more androgynous side, he is hardly a large or tough looking man. His body lends itself more towards lean, sinewy muscle than bulk, despite how much he works out. His body is generally compact, with an almost narrow form, but still fit. He tends to wear baggy clothing--nothing that doesn't fit, just things that are loose and easy to move in. Neutral or earthy colors in practical form are his preference; he looks cleaned up and neat, but with a casual sort of style. Never messy, but always styling. If only he could hide his height! He's the shortest of his siblings, even though as a youth, he was the tallest of them. His skin is a warm shade of brown, and he boasts chocolate-brown hair worn short, but not too short. It's still shaggy and a bit messy, a bit uneven in parts (he cuts it himself), but the wave to it makes it look passable. Even his eyes are brown, a surprisingly soft shade, but brown nonetheless.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Zar is surprisingly insecure, considering how cocky and proud he acts. He fights tooth and nail, not only for his own goals but for the defense and care of others. He is easily affected by perceived failure, as all the determination in the world won’t save everyone, and the protection and safety of every single person, ever, is his goal. Naturally, this results in him feeling helpless and frustrated with himself, as though he’s personally failed anyone who has been harmed. He tries not to show his inner angst, unless he is very close to someone. Still, he bounces back from his bouts of depression, determined to be resilient.
He questions himself, but has strong goals and aspirations. His ambitions are both shortsighted and vague, such as “save the world...somehow!” He’s willing to do what it takes to save others, and his method of choice is usually self-sacrifice, or giving something up for another. He tends to throw himself in harm’s way, and will even fight to protect someone he hates. That said, he has a very black-and-white worldview, and when that is called into question, he gets uncomfortable. Zar takes a lot onto his shoulders, and takes responsibility for everyone and everything. He’s a dutiful man, despite his tendency to share his opinion when no one even asked. He’s a hard worker who yearns to act, to do something; he hates inaction, and wants to be useful.
Still, he's a disaster--easily flustered and embarrassed, a bit awkward and unsure when someone tries to flirt with him. He's a romantic, which is a poorly kept secret, but also oblivious. Despite being friendly and sociable, even kind, he is prone to asserting his opinion loudly and proudly. Stubborn and bullheaded, he refuses to change his mind, and can be both reckless and impulsive. He rarely thinks things through, with a straightforward lack of planning in most that he does. That said, he can be practical and resourceful when not pressed for time or stressed. That said, he isn’t often careful, resulting in simple mistakes quite often. Maybe Zar is gentle with those who need it, but he most certainly isn’t patient. He likes to do things quickly, and gets bored or frustrated with waiting or length tasks. Paired with his temper, which manifests when honor or pride is involved, he can be a bit mercurial. Despite this, Zar can be kind, caring, and exceptionally generous. He enjoys being around people and is socially motivated.

SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Ista Weyr
HISTORY: Born the middle child to a pair of riders at Ista Weyr, Zarsteyr was never incredibly close to his parents. Zarxaha and Teistryn were both busy, even though thread had not yet begun to fall. That said, he forged a close connection to both of his siblings, and generally saw himself as the leader of them.
Zarsteyr, who went by Zar, quickly asserted that he wasn't a girl. He was accepted by everyone who mattered to him, and even given language to express himself before he fully understood it, thanks to his older sister. At a young age, he was tall--even taller than his older sister. It was a sense of pride, until Xahteis would grow quite large, and Treisha got slightly more of a growth spurt than Zar had. When he was 8, his brother was born, and he doted on Xahteis just as he tried to protect Treisha. At 13, thread began to fall, and Zar turned his eyes to the skies, hoping to be a rider--or even a wherhandler, so long as he could help save Pern from thread.
Treisha, ironically, was bullied as a candidate, and the then thirteen-turn-old tried to confront her bullies, like the hero he thought himself to be. Turns out, trying to fight a couple of fifteen and sixteen turn olds doesn't end well for a weyrbrat. It ended the bullying, mostly because the candidates in question felt bad, but he still felt a need to prove himself and protect others. At fifteen, he became a candidate, and at 17, he shifted to a dual candidate. A couple of turns later, Xahteis moved to the healer hall to train. When he did, at the age of 10, Zar was 18...and he got a firelizard to keep in contact with his brother. Zar, focused on his family bonds, kept in touch with Xahteis, and often tried to convince him to return to Ista--and later, to move to Fort.
Golre was a horror at High Reaches, but at Ista, it didn't affect him much. In '65, however, Ista began to meddle with Fort, and Zar was proud of his weyr, thinking they were offering guidance to a struggling weyr. After all...they were the peacekeepers, right? A few seasons later, it ended, but Zar wouldn't question this for a few more turns, until realizing that Ista supported egg thieves over Fort, the true peacekeepers. So much inter-weyr politics! His candidacy was not very eventful. He managed to avoid getting in too much trouble, and stood for most clutches...only to be left standing. His sister managed to Impress near the end of her candidacy, and Zar was left alone on the sands. At 26, he aged out of dragon candidacy; a turn later, he was finally chosen to Impress, by a clutching green wher. She offered him one of her few eggs, and the endearing Zarsk hatched. She wasn't the noble defender he'd imagined, but he instantly adored her and planned to protect her, no matter the costs.
A turn later, he heard about High Reaches stealing eggs from Fort. Determined not to stay at a weyr that sided with egg thieves, he moved to Fort, in support of them. His sister, of course, went with him. Fort had a rocky past--but so did most weyrs. He had to stay at his home until graduating, of course, so he couldn't leave immediately; He arrived in Late Fall of 2770, just after graduating wherlinghood, just after Aldoeith--and her siblings--had hatched. He resented his home weyr for donating a clutch, especially when Aldoeith hatched. High Reaches, the egg thieves, didn't deserve it!
