"They also have hands, and those hands stab things. Things include tables but they also include people."
-Pan, on the topic of Crux

FULL APPEARANCE: Crux manages to look relatively androgynous, with many struggling to guess a binary gender for them. At 6', they could fall within typical heights for both amab and afab people, though either above or below average. They have a lean body shape, one with strong muscles imposed over a narrow form. While they have a strength to them, their natural body shape is relatively thin, even a bit lanky. They have no visible characteristics that would show their gender readily, perhaps due to careful attempts to obscure it--no curves, no facial hair, and so on. They have tanned skin, a soft brown in color, with dark green eyes and brown hair, cut short. They have a small scar along one of their eyebrows, a remnant of a fight they got into once.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Crux is capable of "playing nice," of keeping themselves in line, of not lashing out at anyone and everyone. They simply do not want to. They have the potential for self-control and discipline, but they don't feel the need to reign themselves in. Sure, they'll keep themselves from fighting, if they need to, but they will still tell you to shut the forsk up and go away. They are strong-willed but willful, refusing to buckle to anyone else's desires. They're incredibly stubborn and bullheaded, and it is nearly impossible to change their mind. Sometimes they are contrary just for the sake of it. Their temper burns hot and is easy to trigger. Crux is generally ruthless and cutthroat, ready to do whatever they need to to meet their goals. Unlike their brother, they couldn't care any less about the greater good, preferring to create a world that suits themselves and those they care about. Their ambitious nature is coupled with constant irritation.
With a rough, coarse attitude and absolutely no manners, Crux does not seem to be a particularly pleasant person to be around. They are grumpy and reserved at their best--but usually they're quick to snap and insulting. As far as they are concerned, they have opinions and they are correct. Even when they "get along with" someone, they seem a bit prickly, as if they are only tolerating the person. Those they really care for, however--such as Jexin and Miasmath--will be defended and protected until their dying breath. They are surprisingly loyal and protective towards those they genuinely care for, and their protective streak burns with a fiery passion.
Despite all their grumbling and scowling, despite their anger and ruthlessness, despite the tough front they put up, they have feelings. Those feelings are hidden deep down, but they do genuinely care for their loved ones, even if they struggle with returning and receiving affection. If someone tries hard enough, their barriers can be worn down, even though they may not show any affection or act differently. In some ways, Crux is just posturing. Sure, they're not afraid to get into fights, but inside, they hide an insecurity, a vulnerability, a sensitivity, one that they've buried deep down over the years, but one that exists regardless. Are they good enough? Are they capable enough? They overcompensate by refusing to admit when they are wrong and clinging desperately to any opinions that they form. They force themselves to feel strong, to build themselves up, so that they don't have to slow down and confront their inner worries. There is no time for thinking or introspection if you're busy shouting at everyone.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
-Mother: Ajaxeira
-Father: Cruryn
-Brother: Jexin of Brown Hayutoth [+1]
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Telgar Weyr
HISTORY: About a turn after Jexin's birth, a second child graced the small family. While Crux was generally a pleasant baby, they were also extremely fussy. Luckily, Ajexeira was a healer, so she was able to monitor the baby's health carefully...but there was nothing unhealthy about Crux. They just liked things a particular way, and would cry constantly if there was anything in their environment they didn't like. As a young individual, they retained their sensitive, crybaby personality, but by the time they had mastered speech, they gained a stubborn streak...which only got worse as they aged.
Although Crux was assigned female at birth, they often came across as a more masculine individual. Despite this, they insisted they weren't a boy, either. Neither and both and something else entirely, all rolled into one.
Crux's mother was the disciplined one--so she crashed constantly with them. Their relationship with Ajaxeira was tumultuous and full of friction, and they were grateful that they didn't have to live in their parents' quarters. The creche was a perfect environment for them, and they got to spend a lot of time with their brother. They idolized Jexin from a young age, and when Jexin became a candidate and immediately Impressed, they were amazed. It was their turn to Impress a turn later, or so they thought.
They became a candidate at 15, when they reached the age, and grew increasingly frustrated as they were consistently left standing. They grew bitter, even resentful towards their brother, but they still cared deeply about Jexin. It was frustrating, dealing with these damn emotions. They got in a few fights, most of them minor and unarmed, though one resulted with them getting a gash on their head. It became clear that this was their last chance at maintaining their candidacy, and that they were lucky not to be kicked out immediately, so they quickly reeled it in. They behaved themselves.
And then...they turned 25. Their last chance at Impression, their last moment of candidacy. One turn remained, and that turn sped by. Again and again, Crux was left standing. With their nameday approaching in late winter, the start of winter was a grave time for them indeed. They could count weeks until they aged out on their hands. And then...
Then, a little creature chose them. A tiny white, one with more black on her hide than anything else...and a dragon that was wholesome and geeky and silly. Weyrlinghood was interesting, and just like in candidacy, Crux had to actively try not to get into trouble. They did squabble with others, but kept their fists to themselves. In early summer 2771, just before Crux would graduate, Jexin left for Fort. Of course, as soon as they graduated, they left. They arrived at Fort during it's time of unrest, and although Crux hadn't kept tabs on any weyrs other than Telgar, they quickly learned about the situation at Fort. They grew determined to claw their way to the top, but they're lost in terms of how a whiterider with a dragon under five turns can do so. As they try to learn more about Fort's culture, they are ready to take on any challenge that comes their way.
