FULL APPEARANCE: Lys is a strong man, with a sturdy, muscular build. His build is largely natural and easy to maintain, with ox-like, broad shoulders and a burly build. He has a strong jaw and a square facial shape, though it's not immediately evident under the relatively short beard he keeps. His eyes are a medium shade of brown, and his eyebrows are thick and angular. His hair is shoulder-length and wavy, with a dark brown coloring. A small but evident scar runs through his left eyebrow, He is relatively tall, as well, at about 6'6".
Lys stands with confidence and looks very much like he's ready to take charge. Shoulders back, head straight, self-assured. His body language mirrors this, with decisive, strong movements. His clothing style is exceptionally practical, clean and sharp. It fulfills its purpose, and nothing more. He doesn't particularly care about fashion, and it's clear to tell, from the way his clothes seem to just blend in.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: noble, just, arrogant, determined, loyal, protective, stubborn, dignified, lonely, serious, quiet, sarcastic, orderly
Lys is noble and just, but perhaps a bit more stuck-up and arrogant than is good for him. For all his arrogance and pride, Lys will fight until his dying breath for what he believes in, and he believes in noble ideals, such as freedom, happiness, and justice for all. Most importantly, he believes in the good in others, and wants to keep them safe. He is loyal and protective--and maybe sometimes a little possessive, at times. For better, Lys is decisive and determined; for worse, he is stubborn and contrary. He makes a decision, and then he stands his ground, no matter what. His pride is easily injured, but he rarely lets people know that, if he can help it. Dignified, proper, and regal, Lys acts with natural command, as if he is well above your station. He enjoys order and law, keeping things neat in his physical space as well as his life. He is a bit lonely, feeling a lack of connection between himself and others, beyond casual social acquaintances, and longs for closer companionship.
He trusts few people with leadership, but his brother is one of them. Despite this, Lys has a natural desire for power, specifically to put those he trusts in power, and help them fulfill their dreams and potential. Naturally, he'd be a magnanimous holder, he's sure, but second-in-command to a trusted leader is preferred. He tends to step into leadership positions where there is a vacuum, but prefers to find a strong leader whose ideals he believes in. That said, he knows the sting of feeling in his brother's shadow, but he's come to terms with the role he sees himself playing. Despite being relatively serious--cold and quiet, at least--Lys has a sharp, sarcastic tongue, and doesn't take everything as seriously as he seems to. He can be a bit snide, but he (mostly) means well, full of lofty ideals and beliefs.

HISTORY:
TW: Death, Injury
Lanthe and Chryson's first son was Lanthon; two turns later, Lys was born. Despite living in his brother's shadow, and often feeling that keenly, he adored his brother for as long as he can remember. When he was two turns old, Ysanthe was born, and two turns later, Chrysanthe joined them. Although Lys hardly remembers it, his family was in charge of a minor hold, but in the Interval War, their home was destroyed and their father died. Lys vaguely remembers his home as warm and safe, somewhere that truly deserved the title of "home," but has few other memories of the place, or of his parents. Chrysanthe was born in the storage area that they moved into, belonging to a once-ally's minor hold. After their sister's birth and their mother's death, the now-orphaned children lived there for several turns, until Lys was 9. Ysanthe stayed behind when they left, to get married.
Lanthon wanted to rebuild the family hold, demanding that his siblings play a role in this. Lys saw the stress this put on Chrys, and at 12, their family's harper, Jiathro, secretly left with them at night. Lys thought he had to protect his sister, above all else. Although the Interval War was a strong influence on his early life, it seemed remarkably absent from his teenage turns. After arriving at the harper hall, there were no reminders of the war. No constant talk of rebuilding the damage, of lost parents and destroyed holds. Life was relatively normal. While Chrys thrived, Lys missed his brother, and felt guilty about leaving. At fourteen, he refused an apprentice at the harper hall, and at seventeen, he left to go find his brother. His sister was now old enough to take care of herself. Despite not being fond of teary farewells, he still said goodbye before leaving, insisting that it was something he had to do.
Over the next two turns, Lys followed rumors and enlisted assistance in finding his brother, who seemed to move between rebuilding their home hold and seeking aid from the nearby holders, over and over again, despite them being unwilling to help. There were some difficult times, such as running out of money or being attacked by amateur thieves (and gaining a minor injury). He quickly learned the skills of first aid, survival, and self-defense. He studied star charts to avoid thread, when it started falling, and traveled with a caravan at one point, before arriving at Telgar Weyr at 19. He found his brother, who convinced Lys to become a dual candidate, to gain favor with the Weyr and/or Impress a useful creature. Lanthon left soon after, to continue his ineffective work, but promised to return, despite resenting Lys for leaving.
Lys Impressed Lyssk at 20, and listened to rumors and gained information during his time at Telgar Weyr. Lanthon didn't return for another four turns, when Lys was about to turn 23. Lanthon brought a fire lizard egg, which hatched into Cross, and told Lys to petition the Weyr on Lanthon's behalf--to no avail. Lanthon's methods were not working, and Lys bluntly told him so. What he needed was allies who cared about him, and thus his cause, not strangers with no reason to help. He convinced Lanthon that he could do better than just nagging uninterested weyrs. Lys was also starting to get sick of Lanthon's ambitions and obsessions, thinking perhaps he could find a better role for Lanthon--though he didn't say that. Their firelizards helped them keep in contact when Lys went to High Reaches, and Lys Impressed a second firelizard at 25. Rumors and social gatherings were Lys's forte, but somehow he didn't realize his sister was at Fort Weyr until 27.
