”And can you feel the love tonight?
It is where we are.
It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer,
that we got this far.”

FULL APPEARANCE:
It is said that maidens swoon and secret admirers fight to the death over this intriguing man, but he wouldn’t believe anyone who told him such silliness. Elton is classically handsome, with an angular, chiseled jawline, high cheekbones, a prominent nose and rather piercing blue-grey eyes. He has the unfortunate habit of staring into people’s souls, but he musters a brilliant and friendly smile to offset any discomfort experienced by his peers. With flyaway dark brown hair, usually combed back and out of his face, and varying degrees of stubble-to-beard, depending on his mood and available time, Elton can appear quite rogueish.
The man’s stature isn’t exactly intimidating, but he is no slouch: he stands tall, at 5’11, with broad shoulders and lean muscle. Faint childhood scars mark his legs and forearms, with no exciting stories of their own. Despite his pale skin, Elton acquires a healthy sandy tan in the southern sun, though prolonged exposure does lead to some slight burning and peeling. He takes long strides, and moves with an incandescent energy.
His clothing is definitely of the practical sort; Elton has very little in the way of Gather finery, despite the occasional gift left in his quarters (which usually end up in the Weyr’s stores). He prefers earthy colours, and is especially fond of the colour green. Elton is proud of his leatherworking skills, and tends to wear his own crafts- belts, pouches and leather bracelets woven together in simple designs.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Dynamic and enthusiastic, Elton is positive energy incarnate. He is unfailingly kind and charitable, especially to those less fortunate. He frowns upon bullying, and won’t hesitate to step in and stop a fight, regardless of personal cost. He’s the sort of man people can lean on in times of need, empathic and comforting, as well as optimistic and encouraging. He makes a good confidant, although occasionally a loose tongue has gotten him into a spot of bother.
And indeed, Elton likes to talk. He doesn’t especially enjoy silence, which he finds uncomfortable, and is more than happy to keep up a monologue as long as his companions don’t mind too much. Regardless of rank or length of acquaintance, Elton won’t hesitate to chat someone’s ear off- careful not to stray into the realms of the inappropriate or the uncomfortable.
Elton has a strong chivalrous streak, born by some innate sense of traditional nobility. He doesn’t believe in rigid gender roles, but he doesn’t mind opening doors or pulling out chairs- especially if he believes the gesture will be appreciated. He knows better than to underestimate anybody’s strength, but he would willingly sacrifice himself for a good cause, placing more value on the life of others than his own. He does sometimes take foolhardy risks because of this, and has a few battle-scars as the results of poorly chosen fights.
His desire to do well by others also translates into perfectionism and meticulous execution of duty. He absolutely despises failure on his part, and although he doesn’t judge other people, he also won’t do their work unless he has finished his own. He is relentless when it comes to duty, often short-changing his own health in favour of rescuing people, or ensuring his wher’s comfort and happiness.
His other great fear in life is being abandoned: the prospect of being alone terrifies him, for many reasons; one includes having to acknowledge his own lack of self-esteem and anxiety, another is being disappointed that those he trusts would leave him, or that he would never be sincerely loved in return by those he loves. He hides his emotions very well, wearing a mask of smiling pleasantness and a readiness to help, that enable him conceal his melancholic concerns.
Where love is concerned, Elton can be a bit shy. He much prefers to watch from afar, choosing to keep his more burning affections hidden even from his closest friends and family members. However, sex and physical affection is something with which he is quite liberal, and he isn’t afraid of sharing his bed with friends or other willing participants.

BIRTHPLACE: Igen Weyr
HISTORY:
Born at Igen Weyr to dragonrider parents, Elton grew up surrounded by a lot of love. His parents might have placed him and his younger sisters in the creche, but they spent time with them between their duties. Elton never lacked for company or affection, and grew fond of caring for his siblings, especially Estelle who was the family’s much beloved baby.
Harper classes went well- he was a bright boy, though overly eager and occasionally easily distracted. He remembered things well, though his writing was poor and he struggled with complicated number-figuring. That didn’t much matter to him- he had his heart set on becoming a dragonrider just like his folks. He did not apprentice at twelve, choosing instead to do odd jobs around the Weyr as need be; although he had a talent for leatherworking, which the Weyrtanner was glad to teach him when the lad would sit still long enough. At fifteen he began to Stand.
Candidacy was an easy transition for Elton, who returned to his sisters each night to regale them with tales of their lessons and training. He made friends easily with his charm and charisma, and was a popular lad, marked for bronze (or so said the occasional rumour he overheard).
Soon his sisters began to join him in candidacy, and Elton couldn’t have been more pleased if Faranth had hatched again and Impressed to him. Sharing the hatching sands with them always left him grinning, even though he walked away alone time and time again. The Turns dwindled by, marred by political unrest and Threadfall. Somehow, Igen seemed to keep its head above the water, although Elton couldn’t help but wonder just who was pulling the strings in the Weyr’s circles of influence.
And before he knew it, he was on the cusp of reaching twenty-five. It was a mere seven-day before his Turnday, and a clutch was hatching on the Igen sands. The largest egg, mostly coveted by the older candidates, had been his favourite: not for its size, which, at that point in time, didn’t affect Elton in the slightest, but because it had seemed so interesting a dragonet within. When the creature broke its shell, it wandered amongst the candidates before stopping at a woman. She became A’lin of Bronze Tasikheth.
It was hard not to hang his head in dejection, but Elton was proud that day despite the hurt that filled him: Estelle had Impressed to, a most handsome brown her bondmate. Jaehaeryth, with whom he became well-acquainted over the Turns, was a fastidious and meticulous dragon. Elton rather hoped Jaehaeryth’s ‘level-headedness’ would help temper Estelle, who seemed consumed by anger. Certainly his words and reassurances weren’t reaching her- no matter how many times he tried to tell he, she simply wouldn’t believe that he was fine with not Impressing to a dragon, that he was going to attempt to bond to a wher…
And so, he pursued wher-candidacy lessons. It was not difficult to refocus his goals, and he gave himself extra work to occupy his mind when he thought things were slowing down. Elton didn’t want to reflect on his failure at all- he wasn’t even sure his parents thought of him the same anymore, though he believed that his family still loved him as much as he did them. At age twenty-seven he finally found himself chosen by a delightfully joyful green, who became his Eltsk. It was one of the happiest moments of his life as he cut open his palm and shared his blood with her.
Wherling training went well, and Elton and Eltsk proved themselves reliable and competent- both in carrying out simple duties and in more advanced fighting tactics. Once Semaca was officially recognised as a Weyr, Elton considered moving south to provide assistance where they might be needed. His family were faring well, and his help would be better used elsewhere. In the early spring of 2766, he applied to join the Pavane Squad, and shortly afterwards his transfer was approved.
Elton and his wher have been at Semaca for over a Turn now, happy in their role of guardian and tracker. Life is bother harder and simpler, and Elton is glad for the new experiences and the change of scenery.
