FULL APPEARANCE: Br'nan has a wide frame and a sensitive mouth. He makes the various tasks of dragon riding look effortless with his strength. But for all his Turns of dragonriding, Br'nan is a good holder's son still. He dresses modestly in earth tones, nothing cut too tight or flamboyantly. You won't find him running obstacle courses with his shirt off, or having a party in the baths.
There are certain things that this holder's son has learned in his time at the weyr. He clicks his heels on the stone floor to announce his presence, and holds his head high. He doesn't act or dress like a leader - he isn't - but neither does he cower before other riders.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Br'nan is not as selfish as he once was. Once upon a time, the only thing Solbranan worried about was himself, and when he would complete his next Crossing. Since Impressing Dioth, Br'nan has become aware of a much larger world - on a scale he didn't think possible. He affects arrogance, but it's mostly a ploy to protect his bleeding heart dragon. What he won't admit to anyone is that he and Dioth are scarily well-suited for each other.
Because Br'nan is an optimist of the highest caliber. He wants to believe the best of everyone, but not at the expense of his career or health. In that respect, he retains some cynicism. He doesn't believe in lying to himself, but that doesn't mean that everyone is afforded the same courtesy. If it's for the greater good - even if that good is just him and his dragon - Br'nan has no problem telling blatant untruths. He has a strange turn of phrase sometimes that leads to names like 'Bubble Dancer' for a fire lizard, or 'Moonshimmer' for a laprine..
HISTORY
FAMILY: the runner half does not approve of his Impression, the vintner half disapproves his weyr. He hasn't spoken to them in several Turns
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: undetermined
BIRTHPLACE: Bitra Hold
HISTORY:
Solbranan was the son of a Vintner and a Runner. He was raised by the Runner half of the equation, raised into the family business. By the time he was Searched at twenty-one, Solbranan had completed three full Crosses, and was halfway through his fourth.
Candidacy did not agree with him. He had always been active active active, and while candidates were no slouches, Solbranan had to figure out how to entertain himself when he had more energy than the weyr thought he needed. It took most of his time in the candidate's barracks to figure out the answer - racing. In one particular race, he won a fire lizard egg that hatched into the dottiest brown he'd ever seen. What to name such a delightful creature? None other than 'Bubble Dancer', obviously.
Solbranan became irreversibly Br'nan at twenty-four when Imorith's Curses clutch hatched. The Segregated Spaces egg, which hadn't reacted much one way or another when he touched it, shattered to reveal not one but two browns. And while in another life Akioth and Dioth might have fought, even to the death, shortly after hatching Dioth scrambled to Solbranan's side.
Solbra- Sold- my but you have a mouthful of a name. Can I call you Br'nan? Br'nan, keep away from that one. He's nothing but trouble.
If it was possible to have a 'worst clutch' for a dragonet to grow up with, that was the Curses clutch for Dioth. He was too sweet compared to his scheming clutchmates. And while he tempered Br'nan considerably by the time they graduated, he was unable to have as much effect on his siblings. He was not favored by their mother, and had no particular love of golds anyways.
Br'nan and Dioth joined Twilight Wing, where they have been ever since. Could they have possibly done more good if they transferred? Well, possibly. But that would mean leaving Fort open to the manipulations of golds. That would mean abandoning the dragons Dioth had become fond of, and it would mean victory for Akioth. And that, that, Dioth would never stand for.
