As a child you would wait
And watch from far away
But you always knew that you'd be the one
That work while they all play
Imagine Dragons, Warriors

FULL APPEARANCE:
Skinny, with a look of being a little bit underfed, Ephaera is a willowy young woman on the cusp of womanhood. Agile and athletic, she has the build of a runner, with long legs and limber arms. Her endurance stems from a will of iron, rather than a barrel-chestedness, and she is more suited to sprinting than pacing. Faint scars mark her arms, and there is a bitter scar on her thigh that healed badly. These are the relics of past fights and intense sparring.
She has an elfin face, with large eyes, rounded cheeks and a pouted chin. Her skin is a pale tan hue, growing dark in sunlight. Dark brown freckles dot most of her skin, an unusual and striking sight. Full lips of a pale red hold a classic bow shape, but are more often than not drawn into a frown or a pout. Her large, expressive eyes of bark brown are lined by tidy and thin eyebrows. Her hair, which she prefers to keep long, has natural corkscrew curls, and is an dark coppery brown. She will tie into into thick runner tails, or if the occasion demands it and she has the time, will weave it into plaits that crown her head.
Her dress sense is practical. She owns very little in the way of Gather finery- most of it left behind when she fled the destruction of her Hold. Ephaera prefers Browns, blacks and whites. Her most treasured possession is a necklace her mother made for her out of bright string and leather, which she wears beneath all of her layers and takes off only when absolutely necessary. Ephaera was of the habit of wearing head covering during her travels as a caravan’s guard, but has since foregone the tradition after arriving at Semaca.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Ephaera is, on the surface, a very straight-forwards person. She stubbornly pursues her goal despite setbacks and obstacles: she wants, more than anything else, to re-establish her Hold in the south, to provide a future for those who survived alongside her. She’s a humanitarian deep at heart, and has a great deal of compassion for those who suffer. Around strangers, she’s a little more wary and guarded, but those who have earnt her trust and loyalty have a steadfast friend who will risk everything for their happiness and wellbeing.
She has a strong sense of self, and follows her own set of rules and values that encompass her daily life. Don’t take from those poorer than you, work as hard as you expect others to do, be responsible for your own messes, and if you’re late to a meeting, it had better be for a sharding good reason. She has a good head on her shoulders and a wisdom that belies her Turns, mature and sensible where others her age might be more prone to goofing off. There’s no room for silliness or leisure in her life: Effie is driven to the extreme, never able to fully relax, never able to really enjoy things as they should be enjoyed.
She has a deep and real need for socialness, that is sometimes at odds with her do-it-all attitude. Ephaera craves connection from others, not to validate her own contributions, but to ensure that everything that she does is for a good cause. She likes to see people happy because of her- it makes her happy in turn. That feeling of closeness is what warms her heart and allows her to get in touch with her emotions- which she tends to turn off when in the midst of duty.
Her anger is a quiet and very controlled thing, not often let out of its bottle. It’s not that she doesn’t get angry: Ephaera can be downright miserable when an obstacle proves too much for her. But she’s the kind of woman who will run headfirst into a wall, repeatedly, if she believes she can break it with her head alone. She also doesn’t really believe people will help- nor does she expect them to- so Effie is rarely disappointed or dismayed, and her persistence will overcome any pessimism.
As for love- there really isn’t any time. She’s approaching an age where those around her are beginning to pique her interest, but other than the occasional fleeting crush Ephaera doesn’t really give herself the time to explore her options. She expects, at some point in the future, to settle down with a partner in some way or another, but until then duty calls.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
- Father: Ephec {deceased}
- Mother: Taery {deceased}

BIRTHPLACE: Vandor Hold
HISTORY:
Ephaera was three when the High Reaches dragonriders attacked her hold. Her mother and father both died. The Hold itself was small, barely worth the title of Minor Hold, but her parents had been its leaders. Ephaera was smuggled out with refugees.
Her childhood was spent with caravans, traders, and around the remaining folk of her Hold. Some decided to stay with other Holds; others, more disgruntled with how the dragonriders had just taken their livelihoods and familes from them, rallied together in the hopes of finding another cothold to occupy. Ephaera grew up around these people- learning odd jobs, listening to the tales of her Holdsfolk, taking up their plight as her own. More than anything in the world, she wanted them to be happy, she wanted them to be settled and safe away from those who might try to ruin them once more.
As she grew older, she became an adept swordswoman and hunter, providing for her people by assisting with caravan protection and by hunting pests and game. They lived in the outskirts of Holds when they were not travelling, bartering food and safety in exchange for services rendered around the Hold.
With the opening of the southern continent after the official recognition of Semaca Weyr, Ephaera gathered the able-bodied and willing and went in search of a rider willing to convey them. Those who chose to stay behind were given the few marks she still had left over. Ephaera moved to the south in the spring of 2766, prepared to start a new life, and still trying to establish herself as a woman to be reckoned with, and provide a safe haven for the people who decided that she wasn’t being foolhardy or reckless. She has taken the opportunity to stand for clutches at the Weyr, but spends most of her time serving the weyrfolk in day-to-day tasks, at candidacy lessons or chores, and assisting her fellow refugees where possible.
