FULL APPEARANCE: Yarenguys isn't a particularly remarkable guy, other than his pale skin and light hair and eyes contrasting with the average Pernese. He's tallish and skinny, his body still figuring out its proportions from its teenage growth spurts. Perhaps the most distinguishing thing about him is that he constantly looks done, fed up with everyone and everything. It's rare to see him with a smile on his face, and he reserves it for very special occasions. He wears plain, functional clothing in dark colors, having no patience for frippery.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Yarenguys is utterly done with everyone's shards. Especially if he's working in a group. He tends to take control of a group and become exasperated when things don't go his way. It's relatively easy to persuade him to follow someone else's direction, especially if they're more assertive than he is, but you can bet he won't be happy about it at all. He has a decent work ethic and gets things done at or before their deadlines, but it's a given that he'll complain about it if it's not exactly what he wanted to do. He's a good planner, with a clear goal in mind and a good idea how to get there, but is very intractable. It's hard to change his mind once he's set on something.
He often feels isolated from everyone else, and finds it hard to get close to others. While more progressive than his brother Thendou, he still thinks that Pern is going in the wrong direction, and is in a state of constant exasperation at what he views as other people's foolishness. Ultimately, he wants Pern to be a place of peace and prosperity. He views the attempts at democracy at some Weyrs as causing unnecessary upheaval, and much prefers the old system of goldriding Weyrwomen and bronzeriding Weyrleaders. Why fix what isn't broken?
Yarenguys gets along better with older people than younger, viewing his peers as immature and brash. Of his siblings, he's closest to Thendou, finding Yendall's energy overwhelming. He does love his family, but he wishes some of them were a little more...quiet.

HISTORY: Yarenguys had a normal upbringing for a Hold child. While he was never bullied, he had few friends his own age growing up, preferring his own company. People were strange and hard to understand. He found his first true friends in a group of older people, happy to teach a willing young child. Yarenguys soaked up their stories of an older Pern, without war and conflict. He loved their calmness and air of authority relative to the children he was supposed to be friends with.
While his older brother and eventually younger sister went off to apprentice, he stayed at home. He had little interest in any particular craft and didn't see the need to waste his time. He instead learned how to contribute to the Hold, and began to consider becoming Steward someday. That way, he could guide others to his will, and help make Pern a better place.
He was Searched right before his twenty-fourth Turn-day. He disapproved of the Council system at High Reaches, but saw an opportunity to help make things "right" and back to the way that had worked for Turns. He's also glad to see his siblings again.
