FULL APPEARANCE: Despite being nonbinary, Thyne has a feminine appearance. They don't mind people mistaking them for a woman, but prefer to be seen as nonbinary. Slender and tall, they have a naturally androgynous body about them. Within "normal" limits for either biological sex, and with a body that is ambiguous enough--little to no curves, but a naturally feminine shape about them--they enjoy a level of natural androgyny. Their features are elegant and dainty. The sides of their head are shaved, fading slightly. The top has more hair, and is styled in what they consider to be a chic manner. Their singsongy voice is slow, unrushed.
Fashion is the name of the game. Thyne believes in always looking their best, keeping a feminine touch in their regal, elegant outfits. They wear a touch of Pernese makeup, with kohl around their eyes, a touch of color to their lips and cheeks, and so on. Their ears are pierced and they paint their nails, often with brilliant colors. Just because they're an innovator doesn't mean it's not still fashionable. They are clean and neat, with well-pressed clothing and a cleanshaven look.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Thyne is not the smartest in more ways than one. Common sense, logic, wisdom, and memory are all skills that they seem to lack entirely. That said, they try very hard to portray themselves as intelligent, and they have a surprisingly good sense of grammar and vocabulary. As a result, they often come off as fancy and eloquent, even formal, in speech. They can and will shove as many unnecessary flowery words into a sentence as they can. As they are both eloquent and articulate, they can come off as both regal and distinguished, despite not being very bright in other ways. Additionally, they can be very oblivious and naive, easy to manipulate and not very aware of their surroundings, social or otherwise. They are incredibly indecisive, spending ages to come to a conclusion or opinion, but their decisions are often poorly made despite this. They often are surprised when things blow up in their face.
They are surprisingly pure, in some ways, with an almost youthful view of the world that hasn't been tarnished by time or experience. They know flair and elegance, but not practicality. A bit gaudy and stuffy in many ways, they don't seem to understand how the world works. Regardless, they go with the flow and are relatively unbothered and carefree. They never move quickly, and you cannot rush them. Calm and serene, they see no point in hurrying, no matter the situation. Romantic, but oblivious, they hope to find a lover someday, but again, they are in no rush. They enjoy poetry and they are are over the top and dramatic, being an incredibly extra person. Thyne has an overactive imagination, fanciful and creative, tending to come up with stories for anything and everything. Sometimes, it almost seems as though they believe their grand tales, but really, they just enjoy making up stories and pretending. They do, however, have illusions of grandeur, thinking they are great and wonderful: an icon, a paragon, and a speaker for the common folk (despite not thinking that they are common folk). They are generous and kind, but view themselves as inherently better than others and can be a bit condescending, but with the best of intentions. For someone who is so dumb, despite being regal and distinguished, they are especially pretentious.
Despite their gender identity, they often present as feminine and almost "ladylike," in a way--as they are certainly prim and proper.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
-Mother: Ryne of Brown Rynesk
-Father: Steward Mathen
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: (optional)
BIRTHPLACE: Minor hold under Fort Weyr's territory
HISTORY: The story begins in a minor hold, one beholden to Fort Weyr but distant from the hold of the same name, in 2740. Ryne was a wherhandler, nocturnal and gruff; Mathen was a steward, a proper man who knew the value of manners. Their pairing was unexpected, not so much due to their station, but due to their personalities. Polar opposites, both rejecting traditional gender norms in terms of action and presentation, despite the traditional nature of the hold.
In 2742, the lovers decided they wanted children. They weren't successful until 2744, when Thyne was born. They were a difficult birth, and the midwife pronounced that they were lucky to survive, but that Ryne would be unable to bear more children. Thyne, of course, was loved and treasured as a result. Their only child was spoiled to the best of their ability, living a comfortable and well-off life, even if neither noble nor rich. They were, however, given anything they asked for, more often than not, and were a bit of a brat in their early days--luckily, they grew out of this. Thyne often expressed the idea that they wanted to be "not-a-girl but also a girl!" so their parents helped them come to terms with/understand their gender identity. While born afab, they realized they could hoard genders like some kind of nonbinary gender dragon. Transition was not the most pronounced issue in their life, as they continued to lean feminine in presentation and were happy with as many gender-related terms as they could indiscriminately gather. Call them a girl? Yes! A boy? Oh, yes! Neither, both, something else? You bet, they're all of those things! Still, they grew to insist on they/them pronouns with an acceptance for she/her, and prefer genderless terms or a mixture of gendered terms.
Thyne loved their mother's wher, Rynesk. An old brown with a squashed muzzle, Rynesk had a habit of coughing up phlegm. Snot built up in his chest easier than some other whers, and while it didn't exceptionally limit him, he was...clearly not the most distinguished or pretty of whers. In fact, he might have been a little gross. Thyne thought Rynesk was incredibly noble, a beautiful creature for Mother Darling. Majestic.
They didn't pay much attention to politics, being from a small hold, but they were raised with a healthy distrust of riders. Golre would not last forever, and with her death, Thyne's fear of riders and dragons also died. Half a turn after Golre's death, on their 18th birthday, Thyne decided to leave the life they knew to forge a new life. They were not a child anymore, and must leave to forge their destiny. It was very overdramatic. They wanted a wher, though they would have been happy with a dragon. Perhaps something fancy! At 18, they arrived at Fort Weyr, signing up as a dual candidate.
Their time at Fort was eventful, with all of the chaos at Fort Hold and the horrors regarding Benden, and Thyne was exceptionally dramatic about their interpretation of each and every moment. There were constant shifts in weyrleadership, mostly due to violent upheaval such as poisonings or violent flights. Queens rose in influence and then died. Serapheth remained a constant force throughout Thyne's time at Fort, and they grew to admire the queen. Despite all the chaos at their new home, and despite leaving their family, albeit with written contact, they were never personally affected by tragedy and coped very well.
At 25, they got their feline, Lady Oerielle, and made up silly cat lore because they're silly. They also aged out of dragon candidacy and took their place as a full-time wher candidate. Despite lessons, they seem to have no idea what Impression will actually be like, and they seem to think of Impression as a status-related thing where one simply makes a new friend and everything is wonderful and happy.
