FULL APPEARANCE: An olive-skinned beauty with a flair for upscale fashion, Nahmyra is the image of perfection. Everything about her appearance is carefully crafted, without a single hair out of place. She spends forever getting ready in the morning, and frequently pauses during the day to fix her hair and outfit. Of course, she can't be as meticulously perfect as she was, now that she is a dragonrider, much to her frustration--but she still manages to look well put-together. It helps that Nahmyra is naturally pretty, with petite, delicate features. She is slightly taller than the average pernese woman, but her build is narrow and petite, with a thin form and straight figure. Naturally, she holds herself with such regality and precision that one might think she was much more politically important than she actually is.
Due to her relatively wealthy family, Nahmyra prefers expensive "gather" clothing in everyday life--dresses and feminine outfits in rich, deep colors. Of course, now that she is a dragonrider, she does not have the option to wear such outfits as much. While she dresses more practically where necessary, and does so graciously, she still likes to occasionally wear fancier outfits. Still, she often wears jewelry, and almost always wears a necklace from an ex-lover, despite her ambivalent feelings about the situation, a rich crimson glass pendant.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: perfectionist, high expectations/standards, reputation orientation, quick to drop others, stubborn, closed-minded/traditional, sentimental, emotionally closed off/self protective, curious, family influence, polite, proper, feminine, elegant, disdainful at times
Perfection. Nahmyra is obsessed with the idea of perfection in all that she does. Constantly chasing an idealized perfection in all that she does, whether it be her craft or her dragon, Nahmyra is often disappointed in herself and others: she holds herself and others to such high standards that she is often frustrated with others (or herself). That said, she will never admit to others that she has done anything wrong, and rarely--if ever--apologizes. Her reputation is important to her, and she refuses to consciously admit to any wrongs. Although she seeks a perfect life, she is not always sure exactly what this means or how to get there--she just knows that everything must be perfect. Largely, she is focused on and worried about how others perceive her. She wants to be seen in the best light, and as a result, she acts in a carefully crafted way, to appear as perfect. Some people might influence her perfect life and reputation--these people are cut out as she promptly distances herself. This may not be the best method to have things work out, but other than her relationship with Sylki, it hasn't yet blown up in her face.
Sentimentally nostalgic, Nahmyra maintains fond memories of people, especially those in the past. Of course, she wouldn't act on such things...but she might keep a memento of a past relationship, or think of someone in ambivalently fond and negative terms all at once. An example, of course, is Sylki, who she feels brings drama and frustrations, but also harbors feelings about the woman that she isn't aware of on a conscious level. That said, while Nahmyra has the potential to be passionate in certain intimate relationships and forge close bonds on occasion, she is rarely genuine in her emotion, and it is even rarer that she is ruled by her emotions. While her carefully crafted exterior can crack, showing some emotion, she usually keeps it to herself. Her anger is usually cold, chilly, and detached. You know you've done something wrong when she acts as if you are a stranger. She is emotionally closed off and self-protective.
Nahmyra is musically-oriented, and considered the harper craft at one point, but learning was a greater strength. Naturally, the scriber craft was perfect for her, and she enjoys it greatly. She is a naturally curious, inquisitive person, and always wants to know why things are. Her intelligence gives her a natural skill with her craft. That said, she is not particularly good at questioning her own viewpoints, and can be exceptionally stubborn--even if she only believes something because of her upbringing. An example of this is her sexuality. Although she is gay, she identifies as bisexual, and acts the part of a heterosexual woman, closeted but aware of her feelings towards women. The homophobia she grew up with results in internalized feelings about her own sexuality. She feels shame about her feelings, but does, occasionally, have secret flings, or even relationships, with other women. In many other ways, she is a traditional person. Female bronzeriders and the like make her uncomfortable, but she would never be impolite to a stranger, not even to someone who gave her conflicting feelings. Nahmyra, to strangers, is generally unoffensive and politely withdrawn. She tends to avoid drama, but avoiding those who cause drama can sometimes cause drama for her in its own right.
Prim, proper, and ladylike, Nahmyra strives to be the least offensive woman she can be. Always the picture of elegance and grace, in both her movements and how she acts, Nahmyra is certainly what she sees as a proper lady. She is polite, if not a bit condescending to those lower in station than she is. Perhaps a little disdainful of those she sees as beneath her, Nahmyra is otherwise a gracious and kind person--or so she acts, at least. Deep down, she is not certain who she is--in many ways, she has become the persona she has crafted. Of course, as any feminine woman should, she prefers dresses to slacks and other feminine appearances. A lot of how she acts is a result of her family. Family pressures and influence continue to ring strong, with their opinions becoming her opinions, and they forge who she is today. It is because of her parents that she lies about who she is.

BIRTHPLACE: Keroon Hold
HISTORY:
TW Homophobia
Nahmyra was born at Keroon Hold, to a relatively well-off family. Her parents were friendly with the local holder's family, and she enjoyed playing with the children from a young age--though she never particularly liked them. Sure, she acted as if she did--her parents' status depended on it, as she was told. Her parents were exceptionally traditional, as well as homophobic, and thought that those who deviated from the norm in any way were absolutely disgusting. They imposed these ideas on young Nahmyra, and scolded her when she was young and professed that she was going to marry one of her female friends, without any intent behind it. Although she would eventually grow to disdain her strict parents, she would keep their ideals, as if they were her own.
At a young age, she became an apprentice of a proper craft befitting a lady. While other crafts would have been more suitable in her parents' eyes (such as their own crafts--that of healing or weaving), the scribe craft came with more than enough prestige, status, and knowledge. A civilized and cultured pursuit for their young daughter, one that they encouraged. Of course, she wouldn't be sent away, but rather, stayed at Keroon, learning under the master at the hold. Of course, Nahmyra admired her parents' crafts, but considered her craft her own choice. She loved learning and research above all else, and focused her attention on the scriber craft.
At the age of twelve, Nahmyra noticed a young tailor apprentice. A new dress had to be ordered for an upcoming gather. She'd never really noticed the young girl before that, but suddenly, she was shyly infatuated. The skill with which Sylki worked the cloth and silk...it was just so fascinating. She would, on occasion, force herself to "trip" and mess up her clothing. Her father wanted her to understand the repercussions, to be disciplined, so he made her take the clothing to the tailor herself every time and pay for it with her own money. She was more than happy to do so, and would often wait for it to be done, pretending she wasn't watching the way Sylki's hands worked, the way the cloth seemed to flow like water. Of course, she saw the other girl in classes, too, but she was too shy to approach without the excuse of a ripped dress or a necessary hem.
Two turns later, Sylki surprised her by approaching her. Shyly, Nahmyra accepted the relationship, despite the guilt and shame that echoed in her head. She tried to ignore it. The pressures from her family to be a proper lady in all that she did--especially relationships--were strong. She had to be the perfect lady...but being with Sylki helped her relax, just a little. She loved Sylki, even if she was shy and exceptionally prudish about scandalous matters such as HAND HOLDING, even in private. The relationship lasted about four turns. After Sylki became a journeyman, her parents wanted to marry her off. Naturally, Nahmyra accepted that Sylki would, inevitably, do as her parents wished. She kept calm, of course, about it, and was shocked when Sylki stood her ground. She felt pain for Sylki, but of course, she suppressed this, twisting the meaning of the hurt she felt. Nahmyra stayed away, afraid to be associated with Sylki after the event, afraid to sully her precious reputation with her secret romance. The hurt was Sylki's fault, she decided. The drama--Sylki's fault. Sylki would ruin her reputation, what with all that was going on with her family...or worse. If her parents heard about this...it would be the end of her.
When Sylki sought her out, she told her it wasn't true love, refusing to be with her, out of fear and hurt. Of course, she had loved Sylki, and felt hurt by refusing her...she just loved her reputation more. No one could know about her tryst with Sylki, especially not after what had happened with Sylki's family. The rest of that turn was difficult, avoiding Sylki and praying that Sylki's family wouldn't share any details of the relationship. Around the same time that Sylki left the hold--2765, in the spring--Nahmyra left, as well. Unlike Sylki, she was searched and invited to stand at the next clutch, at Benden. Her parents approved--dragonriders seemed to control the world, after all. Off she went, arriving in time for Nuth's clutch. Supposedly, the gold had risen elsewhere, though the weyrleadership didn't change. At her first attempt, she Impressed. A lovely blue emerged from a plain shell, and immediately fell on his face, crying out for her to help him.
And that was her Rauseth.
Weyrlinghood was relatively uneventful, but when Alayna and Wyzeth's presence became known, her weyrling class put two and two together. Wyzeth was their poor mother--not Nuth. Nahmyra felt pity for Wyzeth, and horror at the situation. While she didn't urge her fellows to seek out Wyzeth and their lost sister, Nebulaeth, she certainly didn't protest. Rauseth and Nahmyra headed to Semaca Weyr, eager to meet Nebulaeth.
