FULL APPEARANCE: Firo seems to embody the essence of a loveable young scamp. He has very soft features that make him seem younger than he actually is, and with his slim build he’s often mistaken for a young teen. He has an easygoing expression and speaks pretty amiably whatever the topic. His hair is shaggy, but in the presence of company he’ll move it out of his eyes and stand rather formally, especially when speaking to anyone of any particular rank. He tends to prefer earthy tones and keeps his clothes rather clean.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Firo is affable and easy-going, perhaps to a fault. He has trouble taking a serious situation with the gravity that most people consider necessary. His easy-goingness belies a pretty fierce temper that he is not in particular control of. People making fun of his baby face is one of the easiest ways to set him off. Probably as a result of his insecurity with his perceived usefulness, he can be overly pragmatic to distance himself from things he considers childish, sometimes to the detriment of his otherwise affable nature. Despite these faults, Firo still strives to be what he considers a good person. He wants to be kind an generous and well thought of, even if he can also lose his temper at times. He cares a lot about the individual connections he forms with people, probably more than any more traditionally important ties or beliefs. Despite his connections, he has a desperate need not to depend on others and despises nepotism. Firo is also reckless, particularly in regards to his own safety - not out of bravado or immense courage, but he consistently fails to properly consider danger to himself when he attempts something. His recklessness points to a lack of self-worth, and he mainly takes care of himself to continue caring for those he has found himself drawn close to and caring about.

Firo’s parents died when he was very young, and was taken in by another family - Gandor’s - who had slightly less than reputable business practices. It was made clear to him from the start that this was only a temporary arrangement, and once he became an adult he would have to figure out what to do with himself without Gandor or his sons’ help. For much of his youth, Firo had little supervision and a number of questionable influences, often getting him into trouble. When he was thirteen, he tried to pick the pocket of a semi-rival of Gandor’s, Martillo. Martillo was impressed with the boy’s skills at such a young age, and began to take the boy under his wing.
Firo met a number of people who worked for Martillo, one of the most important to him being Maiza, a kind and intelligent man who immediately took Firo under his wing, and ensured that his education included more traditional subjects and not only how to cheat at cards or survive a knife fight. He did well working for Martillo, particularly with Maiza’s guidance, and quickly found his place in Martillo’s business. There was little love lost between him and Gandor, though he stayed close with his adoptive brothers, even after Gandor died and Luck, Berga, and Keith took over their father’s various enterprises.
In his late teens, Firo saw a young woman walking around a Gather and was immediately captivated by her. He noticed a button that had fallen off her coat, and tracked her all over the festival in order to give it back to her and strike up a conversation. Her name was Ennis, and she seemed woefully unsure of how anything worked, so Firo offered to help her. He learned everything he could about her and upon learning she lived in a small cothold nearby, only coming to High Reaches for more supplies, he offered to meet her any time she came by to resupply and she agreed.
For turns, they’d meet regularly, talking about everything and nothing and it was wonderful. Until the turn that Szilard came to the Gather instead of Enns, looking for Firo. He railed at Firo, commanding Firo to stay away from Ennis. Firo had never liked Ennis’s descriptions of the man, finding him controlling and neglectful, and he was even more odious in person, so Firo refused. Szilard shoved Firo, and Firo lost his temper. In the scuffle, Szilard fell backward and hit his head on the cobbles. Ennis saw the whole thing, but instead of hating him for accidentally killing her grandfather, she begged him to come with her to High Reaches for protection from Szilard’s wher.
