Rosethorn wears her auburn hair in a masculinely short cut and parted on the side. She has delicate eyebrows, large brown eyes, and a firm jaw. She’s short, most of her height being in her legs, and has broad shoulders, and is a little on the heavy side. She has pale skin. She prefers to wear simple, rough-hewn garments, typically in greens and browns, and never strays far from earthy colors, many of which end up with grass and dirt stains on the legs and knees. She goes barefoot whenever she can, but especially while tending to plants. More often than not, she has dirt under her fingernails.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
If you had to describe Rosethorn in a word, it would be “gruff”. She has a sharp tongue and her temper is formidable. She is stern, scowling quite often, and claims to dislike noise, fuss, children, and caring for sick people. Despite claiming to dislike all of these things, she is extremely gentle when she needs to be, often caring for wounded animals in particular. Tending to growing things is really her forte, though, and woe betide anyone who disturbs any garden plot or any plant experiment she’s tending to. That intense protectiveness can extend to others who she's come to care about. She can come across as cynical and pessimistic, but she’s often just trying to anticipate any problems that may arise and believes everyone deserves a second chance. She has little patience for political games and brown-nosing.
Rosethorn can be stubborn, proud, and antagonistic. She’s not afraid to hurl insults, and particularly hurtful ones at that, and even if she regrets them later, she will refuse to apologize or take it back. She thinks she knows best, particularly when it comes to all things plants, and thinks her practical education outclasses anyone with a formal education. She will only begrudgingly acknowledge a farmcrafter as her equal if they prove themselves to her over and over again. Rosethorn is mostly bark, but she will defend herself if she has to, and never makes a threat she wouldn’t be willing to follow through on.

BIRTHPLACE: A small farmhold near the edges of Fort’s territory
HISTORY:
Rosethorn was born in a small farmhold near the edges of Fort’s territory. Ever since she was little, she had a love for and fascination with all things green and growing. Her early years are also where she learned about how bugs and birds interact with the life cycles of crops, and when she began to tend any wounded birds she came across. At twelve, she enrolled in a farmcrafting hall, but soon found the formal education environment didn’t suit her and dropped out after only a few years.
When she was 25, the wildfires at Fort ravaged many farms. Rosethorn’s family’s was untouched, which made them a tempting target for the holdless (and even a few nearby desperate holders). There were several unsuccessful attacks as people tried to take their farmland for themselves, and Rosethorn knew it was only a matter of time before she or her family were seriously hurt, and they needed reinforcements. That was when she decided to purchase a wher egg, hoping the knowledge that there was a wher on the property would be enough to give some would-be attackers pause. It caused a huge fight with her father, who thought it was a waste of money when it would be months until the creature was large enough to be usable as a guard, and by then the food shortage would be dealt with, and now they had another very expensive mouth to feed. Rosethorn thought he was being a fool to think this would be the only time they’d need what protection having a wher could give them. Her father eventually made all the money back anyway, selling any excess crops off to the highest bidder, and that quieted him for a while.
A few turns later, during the Fort Hold rebellion, her father ordered her to keep the wher hidden, in case the anti-wher sentiments brought aggressors to the farm. Rosethorn pointed out it was so out of the way that that was ridiculous. Rosethorn’s relationship with her father continued to fray and strain as the turns went by until Rosethorn decided living at home wasn’t healthy for either of them and left with a trader caravan, who welcomed the protection Thornsk offered. She made her way slowly south with them, learning more about the various plants from the various holds they stopped at. Rosethorn decided Semaca might be a good ending place for her, as there was still so much to learn about everything on the Southern Continent and her practical skills with farming would likely be welcomed.
Updates:
- 2775 = In the spotty attack, Thornsk defended Rosethorn and Rosesk from a trio of spotties. Her left flank and underside were clawed badly, and her left foreleg was pulled out of its socket in such a way it can never again bear weight
- Early Spring 2776 = Thornsk ran and was caught by brown Zinsk, and then laid the Heroes clutch
