FULL APPEARANCE:
While Nidai is a large and imposing figure, he also tends to move with a carefulness that not many expect. He strides forward and is quick to dodge and dance out of the way of incoming obstacles and people. He wears rough clothing as he has no need for fancier things. Barrel chested and strong, he always has wood working supplies in his pack, as well as food for when he gets hungry.
Nidai has no fear of dirt and grime, but will always strive to keep his tools and clothing clean, if only to prevent tarnishing. He keeps his hair short and neatly clipped so that it will not interfere with his work.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Nidai is loud, rambunctious and strong willed. However, this does not prevent him from being able to step back and analyze situations that are important or dire. He’s very discerning and can point out a person’s strengths as needed. This comes from turns of observing his fellow apprentices as well as his environment. It’s an excellent skill he’s honed specifically for work. He’s not a very artistic person, as he’s not traditionally creative. However, he can improvise in his work, should traditional methodology not work.
He likes being able to assist his friends and fellow workers in their work, and despite not being very flexible in his own technique, he does his best to encourage creativity within others’ technique. Nidai is a hard worker and tries his best to get along with others. He personally doesn’t hold a stake in most political arguments, as he’s not invested in leadership or the roles they play.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Horath – (Father, woodcrafter)
Nikoma - (Mother, Smithcrafter)
BIRTHPLACE: Crom Hold
HISTORY:
A child of the mountains, Nidai was born sickly and he was expected not to survive past a certain age. But his mother and father refused to give up on him. They contacted a Healer friend to help them with their son. The Healer’s son, Daisaki, ended up being a friend to Nidai, and his friendship, combined with treatment, helped Nidai recover and grow into a healthy childhood.
He wasn’t the youngest apprentice to show interest in woodsmithing. He was already 12 turns by the time he was well enough to start an apprenticeship. However, his father instead opted to teach both of them how to create with wood, so that they could keep an eye on his son’s health. Thankfully, the rigorous physical activity that went into the teaching was enough to help keep him healthy and fit. Daisaki was a few Turns older than Nidai, and they both plunged into woodworking with gusto. However, their paths began to diverge. Daisaki was an artist and was best at sculptures and wall decorations. Nidai was better at working with larger scale projects, such as actual building. But while they knew their specialties would drag them apart, they agreed to remain friends for as long as they could manage it. Daisaki would eventually move on to a bigger, fancier Hold, getting marks as an artist who made fancy art pieces pieces for Holders to display in their homes. Admirable work that Nidai could respect. Nearly 10 Turns of study and work later, his father found him competent enough to work on his own. While it wasn’t an official Journeymanship, it would be enough. Nidai was happy with what he had.
Nidai worked for several Turns in major and minor holds, moving around as needed. He spent quite a while gaining experience in actually building without his father’s guidance, and found his job satisfying. But eventually he started to learn more about dragons and whers… Whers were a staple in his community way back when, but dragons were a strange and foreign thing to him. He’d been told by a dragon, once upon a time, that he’d make an excellent rider. But he’d been neck deep in his studies at the time and had declined recruitment. Now that he was able to freely explore and learn about dragons between jobs, and he was intrigued in what he saw.
However, all attempts to learn about them were drowned out when he heard that a distant weyr was seeking the aid of craftspeople and a decent labor force. Without hesitation, he signed up to assist and was on his way to help out at Semeca. It was NOTHING like he expected, but he grew to love the place. It was hot, sticky, but it made him feel alive. The struggle to not just survive but thrive inspired him to rebuild the flooded out weyr, one stone at a time.
However, he did also ask if it was possible to become a candidate. He knew he would be able to become one, as he was still under the age limit. Though he was here to do a job. Once he knew that most of his work was done and he had more time, he’d let himself ease into candidate life and become a part of the weyr he helped rebuild.
