D'ryu
"One prairie outpost you are how I feel
Alone in a flatland 'tween the dream and the real
The irony asked me
"Where have you been?"
I don't know, I don't know
Because I don't know where to begin
I don't know where to begin"

The first thing people tend to notice about D'ryu is he only has one eye. Having lost it to illness at a young age, he is somewhat self-conscious of it and insists on covering it with fancy or embroidered eyepatches. He is a fit young man, keeping his hair trim and his body in working shape. He has to be as fit as he can be, as being a rider is not an easy job and his plans for improving Semaca are not going to be completed easily. He dresses in greens and darker colors, with a small trunk full of fancy clothes that he brought with him that he wears for very special occasions.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Ambitious, and ruthless, D'ryu is a young man who sees the world as something to conquer. If everyone could see his vision, then they would just fall in line behind him and let him change it. Why should dragons not be stationed at every Hold? Why could they not be helping to plow fields, or could whers do more if farmers worked at night instead of the day? He is a man of good intentions but he is not opposed to getting his hands dirty. He is very stubborn, even resisting well-meaning advice and offers of aid if it does not align with his plan or current task. And fueled by Cyroth, the two create a feedback loop of ambition, stubbornness, and pride. He has no problems being insulting, rude, or outright unpleasant if it means people will just leave him to get a task done. This often alienates him from his peers, and though he won't admit it, he is afraid of being alone.
D'ryu is also a very self-conscious man. He feels judged often, especially for only having one eye, and the remains of the infection scarring on his face. He feels if he draws attention to it with his eyepatch, then he will grow more confident with people staring at it. It has not worked yet and he will not change his mind. Arrogant, he does believe that he by nature is superior. Riding bronze does not factor into it, though it does boost his ego. He pretends that he is too successful and strong to need help, and asking for it is a crushing defeat that he tries not to inflict on himself. However if someone else needs help, he will hop in without a second thought. He has a fondness for runners, having gained an appreciation for them over the turns.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Terumune (Father), Yoshihime (Mother, estranged), Dorumine (younger brother, 24, estranged)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Tilek Hold
HISTORY:
Born to privilege of parents close to the hold steward, Dokuganryu was an ambitious and wild child. Encouraged by his father, he greatly had an interest in the workings of the world, from dragonriders to drudges. Though his father's connections, he quickly grew to learn about negotiations and politics.
He was around 13 turns when illness struck him, and such a terrible infection caused his right eye to swell. It was removed by an expert healer, and such a "deformity" soon caused a rift between him and his mother, one he could not understand. Yoshihime, concerned with appearance above all else, began complaining to Terumune that their elder son was not fit to be on such a prestigious stage so close to the lord of the hold. The young man soured on his mother, and moreso on his younger brother when he too began parroting their mother's scornful rhetoric. Though Terumune tried to quell the terrible storm, it only grew worse.
Dokuganryu threw himself even more into learning the ins and outs of upper hold society, mostly how to deal with the hold nobility and outsiders. Even as a teenager he had quite the way with words (though more often than not his temper would get the better of him when dealing with people he thought were 'imbeciles').
It was when he was 19 that something incredible happened. He was Searched.
Initially, he was nervous, and almost thought to refuse when his father encouraged him to go. The Weyr was full of new, exciting opportunities. Terumune was sure his son would thrive somewhere freer, without the pressure of his parentage or his mother hawking on him. With that push, Dokuganryu moved right to the Weyr.
And it was there, standing for the Paper Boats, did he find his destiny.
Cyroth, pale as moonlight and dark as the midnight, found him. Ambition, on top of ambition, there was only one path for them, and it was 'up.' D'ryu had great ambitions to improve the world, to make it better for those around him, and Cyroth had grand ideas of changing Pern to fit his wants for it. The two were inseparable, and unstoppable. Through weyrlinghood they were a very close pair, playing off of one another, strong and stunning.
High Reaches was less of a stable environment as time went on, however. With the disaster that was Aldoeith, and the disastrous Threadfalls and the destruction of one of the holds, D'ryu found his eye turning southward. Semaca was there, and they surely needed an architect like Cyroth, and who was he to deny such an ambition?
Their transfer set, the two Betweened south and did not look back.
