FULL APPEARANCE:
A little on the short side for a guy, Fathom is easily lost in a crowd. He doesn't have any particularly distinguishable features that would make him stand out. Fathom's hair is brown, wavy, and shoulder length, often adorned with small braids here and there. He has medium green eyes, and patches of freckles high on his cheek bones and over the bridge of his nose. The one thing of note that he owns is a bracelet embedded with three stones; black, green, and black in that order. He cherishes it, as it was a gift from his weyrmate, and only takes it off to fly Thread. Otherwise, it's securely on his right wrist, his dominant hand.
Fathom can often appear disheveled and unkempt. He has good hygiene, he just doesn't see much point in putting a lot of effort into how he looks. His hair is often left in an unorganized mess from when he sleeps, and his clothes are a bit rumpled from tossing them carelessly at times. His weyrmate is responsible for any styling that happens to his hair, as well as the little braids in it.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Fathom isn't necessarily lazy, but he can and will try to get out of his duties when it's not pertinent he do them. He likes the freedom of having nothing to do, and is always a bit difficult when it comes to responsibilities. A younger Fathom would have simply snuck out of his weyr before anyone could tell him what his chores for the day were, but as he's aged he's begrudgingly accepted that he has responsibilities he can't run away from. He'll still complain, but he'll do what he's told.
Otherwise, Fathom can be rather quiet. He's kind, just not extremely social. He prefers the company of his dragon and weyrmate to large crowds of people he's only acquainted with. He can be awkward and stutter over his words due to nervousness. In small groups of friends, he's much more relaxed. He cares a great deal about the people close to him, and often tries to make them gifts. He isn't very good at it, though. His kind nature can make him a little too quick to trust. Someone with enough confidence and charisma to back their story can convince Fathom it's true without much fanfare.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Manta (Mother)
Nautilus (Younger Brother)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Indigo of Green Wyvveth
BIRTHPLACE: A modest hold near Keroon Bay
HISTORY:
Much of Fathom's life was spent at his place of birth, a modest cothold near the sea. It was close enough to Ista to have plenty of traffic, and did well for itself. Fathom's family was closely knit, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He was particularly close to his little brother, one year his junior. They could be called best friends, on top of their blood ties. Fathom was overjoyed when the searchdragon that came by chose not only him, but Nautilus as well. Despite being 19 by then, Fathom had every confidence that they would both get to impress. Six turns was more than enough time!
Shortly after arriving at Ista Weyr, Nautilus packed up and moved with little fanfare. It was a painful surprise. He had every intention of transferring himself, to reunite with Nautilus, but where would he even start? Did his brother even want to be reunited? In the end, his friends at Ista and Indigo reasoned that staying at Ista for the time was his best bet. They were hopeful Nautilus would chose to return one day, and Fathom found it more comforting to think that as well.
Things finally turned for the better in 2765, when he impressed to Pyralith. She was stunning, even more so with the fact that she was born in the late hours of the night and glowed faintly all on her own. The joy didn't last forever. Indigo had impressed and graduated before Fathom, and had intentions to go to High Reaches. With sadness, and a promise to follow, he watched her go. Pyralith became his foundation between then and their graduation, and the occasional visit kept him from being too downtrodden.
He finally got the chance to follow early in 2767, and his reunion with Indigo wasn't the only one to be had. Fathom was surprised, and overjoyed, to find that his brother was at High Reaches too! And with a dragon of his own no less. The ensuing losses High Reaches incurred couldn't dampen his mood entirely. Two of the most important people to him were back in his life, after all. Indigo gifted him a beautiful metal bracelet studded with what must be precious stones of some sort. It was a gift he cherished.
2770 was a rocky turn. High Reaches' desperation for numbers in their wings, presumably, led them to steal eggs. Fathom was appalled. And from Fort of all places? There was nothing he could do but watch the ties with Fort burn. The hatching of a gold on the sands in the same turn was good news, but a bit bitter sweet thanks to the two stolen eggs. Still, what could Fathom really do but watch?
