FULL APPEARANCE: Jullus is a fairly ordinary man, other than being perhaps a little shorter than average. He keeps his light brown hair neat, just long enough to frame his face without bordering on what he perceives as feminine. He is rarely seen with a smile on his face, much more often with a scowl or a look of grim concentration. When not in his riding leathers, which he keeps in excellent condition, he’s usually found in well-made clothes, shying away from ostentation in favor of function.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Jullus is prickly, stubborn, and rash. He has a firm set of beliefs, and he’ll stand by them. He is proud of the Weyr traditions he was raised with and isn’t afraid to say so. While he doesn’t intend to cause trouble solely for trouble’s sake, he often sticks his foot in his mouth around the wrong people and finds himself in trouble anyway. He is well aware that he pisses off a lot of people at High Reaches, but he’s right and that’s what matters, shard it. He has his honor, and his superiors have their honor, and he will not see anyone besmirch the good name of tradition.
Jullus is not completely intractable. While he will likely never feel completely right being led by a greenriding Weyrleader, for example, he can be convinced by deeds rather than words. He can see that there are some green- and blueriders that are clearly more qualified than the bronzeriders at his home Weyr, and though the idea does not sit well with him, he is very, very slowly beginning to show competent chromatic riders the same respect that he shows any metallic rider, deserved or not.
Jullus is incredibly loyal to those he respects as well as his family. Once someone breaks his trust, he is equally as disloyal, lashing out in rage and doing anything it takes to get back at the person who betrayed him. Were a metallic rider to explicitly betray his trust, he might very well come around a little faster to High Reaches’ ideals.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Laurentius (father), Fulvia (mother) - weyrfolk at Igen Weyr
Cassius (younger brother) - dragon candidate at Igen Weyr
Lucretia (younger sister) - dragon candidate at Igen Weyr
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: N/A
BIRTHPLACE: Igen Weyr
HISTORY: Born to a pair of weyrfolk who had once been weyrbrats and then failed candidates, Jullus and his siblings were brought up to aspire to dragonriding. From as early as they could remember, they were taught to respect the Weyrleaders and wingleaders, who were all, of course, metallic riders, as was good and proper. However, he was also taught that every rider had their place, even if that place was serving their superiors. Chromatic riders weren’t worthless, merely lower in the ranks of the exalted dragonriders, and his parents would be perfectly happy if he Impressed a chromatic dragon.
As Jullus and his friends began to turn fifteen, most of them eagerly signed up for candidacy. Some Impressed immediately, some found themselves left behind. Jullus was one of the luckier ones, only standing for about a Turn before blue Nalaath found him. His parents and siblings were thrilled, and Jullus had to fend off his siblings’ requests to ride on Nalaath for months until the blue was old enough for passengers.
The pair did well during weyrlinghood, graduating into a fighting wing led by a competent but disillusioned bronzerider. After a particularly bad Threadfall in early 2772, in which the wing did the best they could but still suffered heavy losses, the wingleader abruptly put in for a transfer to High Reaches. Though some whispered that the man was slipping in his old age, Jullus knew full well that he’d been in the right, and bravely followed him to High Reaches. A bit of an odd choice for retirement, not least due to its chilly weather compared to the Igen desert, but Jullus wanted to stand by him. He’d freeze, it would be fine.
So far, Jullus has not adapted that well. He is freezing his rear off, his wingleader - no longer in title, but always at heart - is not getting the proper respect he deserves, and the Weyr is led by a council. Whoever thought that was a good idea? But it'll be worth it. He hopes.
