FULL APPEARANCE:
Though they stand at a respectable 5’ 9” in height, Dyggvi is gaunt in an "often mistaken for a scarecrow" way, thin as a rake and gangly as a colt. Being no paragon of strength and no great beauty, he can be somewhat frightening to behold sometimes. Unnervingly light blue eyes peer from a shock of thick blonde hair, cut short and unevenly, his eyes appearing to almost bulge from his face thanks to his almost faded and sickly-looking skin. Between his humble origins and personal taste (or lack thereof), Dyggvi's wardrobe consists is mostly tattered roughspun clothing, often covered in patches from his poor attempts at mending them himself. As if his look wasn't strange enough, he wears a large hat, its brim broad enough that it completely shades his face, giving him an eerie look on occasion.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
An enigma of diverse emotion and all things odd rolled into one person, Dyggvi can be regarded as somewhat strange. Though he can seem detached on occasion, he genuinely cares for others at a core level of his being, especially in an emotional regard. In advance of action, he always considers how what he might do affects others, particularly if he would do more bad than good in doing so. Though he seems almost innocent on occasion, he can be remarkably resistant to changing his ways or views and doesn't manage himself well while confronted by someone who opposes his ideals. If something falls within his understanding of what is good, he'll support that effort unwaveringly.
All sorts of subtleties and complex concepts elude Dyggvi's understanding, seeing him flounder in a variety of social scenarios. More often than not, he takes everything he hears in as literal a sense as possible and doesn't dwell on things if there's no need to give it more thought; he moves on to what needs his immediate focus. Between him speaking in an odd cadence and his unintentional habit of creeping up on others in moving so quietly, engaging him can be quite unnerving sometimes. While speaking, he can be incredibly descriptive, using details of sight, sound, and touch to paint a picture of his experience. Sometimes, he speaks his own thoughts aloud, regardless if said thoughts' subject stands right in front of him or not.
In spite of his odd mannerisms, Dyggvi has a remarkable memory and focus for details, putting his intellectual drive toward helping others. Though he might work alongside others in achieving a mutual goal, he might connect actions to objectives in different ways than his fellows would. It's little things that matter more to Dyggvi than larger ones, particularly in regards to others' happiness; if given a choice between fetching soup to comfort someone wounded or facing what had hurt them, he'll get them that soup. Unfortunately, he's somewhat a one-track mind; once he's set on his path, there's little that can deter him, especially if he sees what he's doing as as good or helping others.

HISTORY: TW: death, abuse
Dyggvi was born to ordinary cotholders in a small, but prosperous cothold in High Reaches territory. But his life story was a sad one to start, his father harsh to both his wife and children. Thanks to his mother's intervention and redirecting his anger, Dyggvi and his little sister, nicknamed "Bunny," suffered less by his hand. But tragedy robbed him of his mother, her body too weak to fight as illness afflicted her. After her death, there was no one to shield both him or his sister from his father's ire. Things were going steadily downhill, so much so that Dyggvi's closest friend, Rhys, noticed how quiet he was lately. But Dyggvi was too withdrawn to answer Rhys' questions, why he wouldn't play nowadays, why he always tried to make himself look small. As his unhappy circumstances saw him slowly growing more distant toward everyone but Bunny, Dyggvi couldn't help but feel friendless, lost and adrift; he'd slowly lost his connection to Rhys long ago. But in his wanderings, strange sounds caused him enough curiosity to investigate, whereupon he found small predators ravaging a firelizard clutch, a distraught clutchmother long since driven between. It was wrong to a young Dyggvi for these beasts to destroy innocent lives, it wasn't fair for these firelizards to suffer, so he drove them away.
Much to his surprise, Dyggvi heard something cracking and looked down to see two eggs still intact, one rocking and wobbling, but another actively hatching. Dyggvi Impressed a little bronze he called Fade, hurrying to bring Bunny his other egg before it hatched. That day, each of them found a lifelong companion, teaching them to stay hidden, so as to put off his father's wrath. But in spite of Fade's constant company, Dyggvi was starting to lose hope in a better tomorrow for both himself and Bunny, but an alternative presented itself to him as a High Reaches dragonpair, flying Search. Under his father's notice, he went to them and begged to be Searched, pleading that he be permitted to bring his sister too if he was deemed worthy. Thankfully, he was both found to be an acceptable Candidate and his request was granted. While his father was alerted to what fortune had befallen his son, to which he responded less-than-favorably, Dyggvi hurried to gather both his and Bunny's things and flee. It was in that moment that Dyggvi would confront his father for a first and last time, stating it was his choice to be a dragonrider and make a difference. All Rhys would later see was his friend and his sister vanishing between on a dragon, not seeing or hearing from them again.
Though High Reaches was an unhappy place, it was better than home. Bunny was placed under watchful creche eyes while Dyggvi began his career as a Candidate. Being an unusually quiet and reserved young man, he wasn't often bullied by his peers, which granted him room to observe those who were and how they suffered. So he did what he could to help in little ways, all while pretending he himself was okay. For two Turns, he stayed far from sight and mind, standing for clutches time and again, checking in on Bunny as often as he could. Golre's fall in 2761 saw a change befall High Reaches; there was less fear, less anger, hurts that stayed raw and open under Golre's reign beginning to heal. Thanks to Fort, it was a better place now, for which he was glad. But Chugoth's coming in 2762 changed everything. Dyggvi could hide no longer, the Child of the Sun taking him for his own and forcing him to step into his light. Chugoth confused Dyggvi for some sevendays after Impressing him, struggling to comprehend his new dragon as his own emotions and his blue's blended into a tangle he couldn't parse. But stirring enough from restless sleep one night to see his young dragon tugging a blanket to cover him, he understood in that moment who Chugoth was, that realization carrying into today. After that night, weyrlhood was easier, a challenge he could manage, seeing him graduate into Stormlight and taking on Thread as he was trained.
But he was ever a product of his childhood. Where Bunny flourished, Dyggvi was still inclined to obscurity, a practice Chugoth was quick to disrupt. It took Turns for Dyggvi to really emerge from his shell, but there were still those recovering from Golre's terrors that needed his help, so he took things one step at a time in progressing to being more visible, as scary as such a prospect was. But severe Threadfall and plague swept across Pern, bringing new hurts to those surround him. Ariath and Midath's simultaneous ascent followed by terrible bloodshed, accompanied by assassinations both successful and attempted against those in charge of High Reaches, more lives lost in more heavy Threadfall, all had Dyggvi fretting for his Weyr's safety and future. What really alarmed him was how a garnet's two eggs vanished from Fort and two eggs mysteriously appeared on High Reaches' sands. It was no coincidence; these were Fort's missing eggs...but who had done something so terrible? It was two Turns later that those responsible were discovered and punished...but those wounds both between Weyrs and inflicted upon those who'd lost wouldn't so readily heal. As if things weren't bad enough, crop blight and natural disaster struck High Reaches Hold, but High Reaches Weyr was there to support them. 2776 is a new Turn, but Dyggvi isn't as sure as Chugoth that things will be alright.
