FULL APPEARANCE: Patrick is the epitome of style - specifically in his own eyes, but he makes a point to be certain that everyone around him knows that, too. He is a strong believer in the idea that being well-groomed and well-dressed is the first step towards having a good day, and in turn a good life. His hair is only a few shades darker brown than his eyes. Patrick is a very small man, but he walks like he controls the entire world. He keeps his head held high, taking up as much space as he possibly can and being completely unapologetic about doing so. He's a bit muscular, but one would likely describe him as "bony" before calling him "buff".
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Patrick is far from the nicest man you'll ever meet. In fact, his first instinct upon meeting a new person is to be pretty much horrible - he's just "naturally rude", as he would put it. In reality, this isn't his nature in the slightest. He's mostly compensating for a fear of losing friends by avoiding making friends in the first place, which, by all means, he has been quite successful at. He has always taken interest in the more beautiful parts of life, being particularly drawn to flora - not for scientific reasons, but rather for bringing a bit of light into his life that he lacks because, again, he doesn't have any interest in letting any other people in. He's a very passionate, fiery person and would be more than happy to discuss his interests with someone that proved to him that they weren't going to leave at any moment - he's been left behind one too many times to trust very easily anymore.
In the rare occasion that Patrick finds someone to truly trust, that singular person might crack his outer shell of rudeness and find a much softer man underneath. At heart, he isn't quite gentle or perfectly sweet, but he is certainly capable of loving, and when he does love, he loves intensely and deeply - which is why he tries to keep that to a minimum the best he can. He really doesn't like getting hurt, but instead of accepting hurt as a normal, human condition, he vehemently avoids it and pretends to be better off that way. Deep down, though, he really just wants to be happy and maybe share that happiness with someone else.
HISTORY
FAMILY: Patrola (mother, alive), Hanrick (father, alive)
Rohan (brother, alive)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Momentarily yearning, as one does.
BIRTHPLACE: Igen
HISTORY: [TW: Abuse]
Born the second child of two in Igen, Patrick grew up with his brother in the creche. His parents, a couple of ordinary weyrfolk, were perfectly content with stopping at two children. They kept a decent relationship with both children, as they'd always wanted to be a sizable part of the upbringing of their children. Patrick promptly corrected his status as a "daughter", though, coming out as transgender a few days before his fifteenth birthday. Most of his family didn't seem to mind, and if they did, they kept it to themselves. Good. Patrick had grown up watching the dragonriders flying overhead, and had decided that when he turned 15, he would become a candidate in an attempt to join them.
Through his candidacy, Patrick saw candidates come and go and bond to dragons and never, ever bonded to his own. When he was 17, he bought a flit egg and ended up with Benny, who he loved, despite him being completely ridiculous, sometimes. Not bonding to a dragon, even after only a few turns, was obscenely frustrating. He wanted a dragon right away, and it felt like every time a Hatching came he just sat around with a goofy little flit on his shoulder and looked absolutely agonizingly hopeless near the end, because, of course, no dragon seemed to want to come even close to him. Sure, it had only been a handful of years, but some people were getting dragons their first year. Why couldn't that be him?
While he waited to hopefully eventually bond to a dragon, he went through a serious of tumultuous relationships - first, friendships, then, eventually, relationships - none lasting more than a few months. He made a reputation for himself in being aggressively difficult to get along with, especially as a partner. The whole thing came to a head when he was 21 and entered a relationship with another candidate called Charlie, who was just awful, really. They fought constantly, but Patrick didn't really know much different when it came to relationships. It certainly didn't help that Charlie bonded to a small green within the first year of his candidacy - a small green that Patrick absolutely could not get along with, no matter how hard he tried (though he never really tried to get along with her in the first place). Charlie would make digs at Patrick and undermine him all the time so often that Patrick started to believe Charlie was right.
He became quieter around Charlie, trying to keep things from blowing up, but Patrick couldn't stay quiet long, and every negative emotion Charlie had ever made him feel eventually came pouring out all at once, effectively ending that relationship for good. The end of their relationship wasn't something that was kept quiet - at least, not by Charlie - and Patrick wanted to get away from it all, at least for a while. He'd already considering going away, anyway, maybe packing up and going to another weyr and standing as a candidate there instead. However, at age 22, while still in Igen, Patrick bonded to blue Scilloeth and they took to each other right away. Patrick's connection with Scilloeth allowed him to avoid making any connections with any people around home, because, after Charlie, he didn't want anything to do with anyone other than his dragon.
He graduated from weyrlinghood at 24 and transferred to High Reaches, finally getting away from the place he used to call home and all the bad memories that he had made there. He still refuses to make any close bonds with anyone, though. Either way, he's made himself a bit insufferable, so he isn't certain anyone really wants to make close bonds with him, anyway. He's content with the relationship he has with Scilloeth - he doesn't need anyone else.
