FULL APPEARANCE:
At 5'8", Indigo doesn't cut a very imposing figure. She's got strength to her, but her frame and musculature are on the lean side, so it doesn't add much to her bulk. She's never going to be intimidating, and that's okay with her. It doesn't mean she can't throw a mean right hook. She has short, wavy brown hair that barely goes below her ears with natural highlights. She has numerous scars on her body, one notably cutting across her right cheek and stopping just before her ear, and another that cuts into her chin. Most of them came from childhood injuries or threadscore.
Indigo isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination. She wears rugged, practical clothing, and her hair is cut short mostly out of convenience. She rarely styles it, content to leave it brushed but otherwise untouched. To those not well acquainted with her, she may look perpetually displeased. She isn't, she just has a case of resting bitch face.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Indigo has a strong personality. At first glance, she may appear stoic and uncompromising, rigid like a seasoned soldier. While she is these things, they make up far less of her personality than people think. Underneath the hard shell, Indigo is cautious, but generally more playful. She has a sarcastic streak a mile wide, and no one is safe from it. The more comfortable she is with someone, the more of this side of her they'll get to see. Not only that, but she's also fiercely protective. This includes herself, the people close to her, and her weyr. She couldn't care less about the news from other weyrs, unless it directly impacts someone she is close to.
Events from her childhood have made Indigo a little insecure, and she protects herself and her ideals with tooth and nail. She's not above hitting someone who's getting on her nerves, and she's no the most patient person on PERN. Some days her fuse is short, other days it isn't, and it's not always easy to tell what kind of day she's having. Should she lash out needlessly, she's usually quick to correct herself and apologize. The guilt of it usually drives her to shut others out and isolate herself, just until she's confident in her self control again.
Fathom, Indigo's weyrmate, is someone she has decided needs her protection more than most. When they were younger, it toed the line of overprotectiveness. Age (and Fathom's insistence) has made her easy up considerably, but she won't forgive anyone for taking advantage of his quiet nature. Indigo is quick to form a grudge, and too stubborn to let go of it easily.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Maurea (Mother)
Shoal (Sibling)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Fathom
BIRTHPLACE:A small hold near the sea
HISTORY:
Indigo's early childhood was an uneventful one. She was born in a modest hold near the sea that survived largely off fishing. It was a quiet life, filled mostly with salt and sand. Her father came and went, and she learned early on not to expect him to stick around. That was perfectly okay for her. While she wasn't close to her father, Indigo had her mother. The older she got, the more of a wedge was shoved between her and Maurea. Her mother was a meek woman who was used to keeping her head down. Indigo... well, she was nearly the exact opposite. She was brash and opinionated and boyish by comparison. She had no love for sewing or other 'womanly' chores, stealing away to the beach instead. It was a point of contention between her and her mother.
Maurea was never cruel to her daughter, but her resentment of Indigo's nature took it's toll. Indigo couldn't force herself to be a 'proper' daughter, but she succeeded in tempering some of her more grating traits. By 17 she had quieted significantly, and developed a protective shell around herself. It was the only compromise between her and her mother that actually stuck. She was nearing 18 when a searchdragon came by. Suddenly, there was an entire world of possibilities open to her. Candidacy, dragon riding, a weyr full of people! It was daunting, and she expected her mother to be less than receptive of the idea. Startled, but supportive, Maurea gave her blessing for Indigo to go with the rider who searched her, and she ended up at Ista Weyr.
It took a good deal of time for Indigo to realize the expectations at Ista weren't the same ones her mother had for her. It let her come out of her shell little by little, allowed her to make friends, to develop a crush of all things! And, by 21, she had a dragon of her very own. Wyvveth certainly wasn't the type of dragon she expected to impress, but she wasn't disappointed. She turned out to be a serene presence in the back of Indigo's mind, soothing her lingering worries like a balm. They complimented each other, and weyrlinghood was pleasant with Wyvveth. They lingered around Ista only long enough for Fathom to impress, simply because Indigo couldn't bear to leave him. once he had, though, she took her dragon's weather preferences into consideration and moved them to High Reaches, knowing her friend (and crush) would be close behind.
She arrived early in the turn of 2766. High Reaches was entirely different than Ista, but not in a bad way. It just took Indigo a while to settle into new ways. She was glad she chose High Reaches and not Fort in the coming turn, just from the amount of chaotic news that reached her. Fathom joined her in the turn of 2768, but the joy of their reunion didn't last. High Reaches seemed to take several heavy hits from Thread over the next few turns, and then the matter of mysterious eggs appearing on their sands. She was disgusted to find out they were stolen from Fort, and watched their relations collapse bitterly. Worst of all was the person responsible was never caught. Aldoeith's hatching was a momentous occasion for High Reaches, though Indigo could sense the tension long before she had even hatched. She just hoped that the new council wouldn't let the weyr ostracize her for being gold alone, when she had done nothing to deserve such suspicion.
