If I hadn't made me, I would've been made somehow
If I hadn't assembled myself, I'd have fallen apart by now
If I hadn't made me, I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be, would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow

FULL APPEARANCE: Although Viraseil is far from tall, she is not the shortest woman on Pern. Standing at 5'8", she is on the shorter side, but not exceptionally so. Her build is slender and wiry, built for agility and speed over anything else. Her movements are poised and graceful, but direct and decisive. She enjoys simple, easy-to-move-in clothing, but enjoys the colors red and gold, often matching them with neutral blacks and browns.
Viraseil's skin is a soft brown, similar in hue to her mousy, light brown hair. She tends to wear her hair bound in a bun. Her eyes, a warm yet dark brown in color, are framed by thick, long lashes. Overall, Viraseil has petite, even cute features, with a button-like nose and pouty lips. Her nose is pierced, and she wears a small stud on the left side of it.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Although Viraseil is undeniably competent, she seems to think she is the brightest and most capable person on Pern. Self-assured and confident, she is comfortable in her own skin, though of course, this often verges into overconfidence. She tends to think she is more capable than she actually is, and tends to act accordingly. She's not above bragging about how skilled and capable she is, either. Naturally, this is paired with a certain ambition, equal parts competitiveness and desire for power. She wants to be the best, AND she wants to be in charge. She is constantly pushing herself to grow, to be her best self...but she pushes others as well, often deciding on the best direction for them to grow in and directing them in that way. She will take charge of any situation and work people just shy of their limit, which as a candidate, largely manifests in trying to boss people around when doing chores or lesson activities. She thinks it's for everyone's sake, but really, it's just bossy and annoying. Ironically, she hates being controlled. If she feels stifled or restricted, she tends to lash out. A fiercely independent woman, Viraseil does her own thing, though she does listen to authority as needed (no matter how it rankles with her).
Viraseil considers herself to be a teasing woman, though her teasing words are often harsher than intended. Her form of humor often cuts to the bone, though she quickly adjusts based on each individual's needs. Until boundaries are clearly asserted or evident, she will push those as well, just to figure out how far she can go. This largely manifests as saying harsh comments, going too far, but quickly learning and adjusting based on what she can and cannot say. She is generally a calm and relaxed person, at least externally, but when her overly ambitious nature or temper shows its ugly head, she gets intense. And boy, does she have a temper. It doesn't manifest often, as she usually keeps it in check. She refuses to be pushed around and wants to protect her loved ones from any possible pain...which results in rage should she think either of these to be violated. Furthermore, Viraseil can hold a grudge forever, especially if someone upsets a person she cares about. Even if she tends to misstep and hurt her loved ones with her harsh teasing, she doesn't tolerate this from others. Over-protective, she won't be your shoulder to cry on...probably because she's too busy punching the offender in the face.
Overall, Vira is a tough, fierce individual. She seems fearless, bold in all that she does, determined to the end despite the risks. This is paired with natural curiosity, a desire to learn more about her world. She's adventurous, and if not for Kivira, she'd probably transfer to Semaca. She wants to explore, to see new things, to visit new places...but as a candidate, she rarely gets these opportunities.

BIRTHPLACE: Fort Hold
HISTORY: Viraseil was the second born of Avirall and Kisein, born in 2750. Thread returned when she was 5 turns old--she hardly remembers a time without it. In 2761, when Viraseil was around 11, Evander enacted his isolationist policy. The impact on her was inconvenient at best. Just when she wanted to explore, meet new people, learn about visitors...the visitors stopped coming. She hated it. Tragedy would strike her hold many times--between the golden ghost's attack, Evander's "tyranny," as she would call it, plague, and wildfire. Viraseil and her family, however, always emerged unscathed. Viraseil grew to hate Evander over the time he ruled, and despite being shielded from details of the rebellion by her parents, she listened to stories of the handlers' bravery with awe. Finally, she could meet new people and explore! She learned to fight around this time, mostly self-defense, but she made it a goal to be a fighter. She got in a lot of fights with the other youths at the hold.
Holders came and went, over the next few turns, and tensions with Fort Weyr continued. It was a shame. Like most children, Viraseil admired dragons. She dreamed of flight, of heroism, of freedom. She was thrilled when the tensions started to repair...but felt betrayed when a guard was attacked by a rider. Her loyalty to her hold outweighed any hopes she felt about dragonriding. Around this time, her older sister--who she was extremely close to--Impressed to a wher. After the second Fortian rebellion, wherhandlers were thrown out. Betrayed by her hold, Viraseil packed up and left with her sister, even though the rest of her family remained behind. They moved to the weyr, despite lingering misgivings about riders, and both settled in well. Vira's disdain turned towards Fort Hold, and then, when eggs were stolen by High Reaches, to that weyr as well. Even through Z'osh's takeover (and subsequent fall), she remained loyal to Fort.
Although Viraseil began as a wher candidate, she quickly switched to dual when she realized how much she longed for the sky, for the freedom to fly. Still, she practiced hunting with her sister, learning the skill alongside the more experienced wherhandler. In 2770, Kivira bought a hunting bird egg from a breeder, giving it to Vira, who raised it from a chick.
