FULL APPEARANCE:
Megumi is a tall boy with light green eyes and spiky black hair that refuses to be tamed. His build is lanky, but he’s stronger than he looks. That said, he’s not winning weight lifting contests any time soon, but he’s quick on his feet. He likes to dress comfortably for every occasion, even going so far as to save old clothes to lounge around in after they’ve outlived their public lives.

While outwardly stoic and somewhat grumpy, Megumi is rather kind, especially to those he sees as kind in turn. Once you get to know him he’s surprisingly easy to get along with, though you need to watch for his potentially lethal sass and sarcasm. He can be disrespectful and passive aggressive to people he doesn't like, especially authority figures. He doesn't stop to think about the consequences of this, or why they may be the way they are. His preconceived assumptions can cause him to be argumentative with others and make it difficult to work with others once he has decided they're not worth collaborating with. He’s a private person, generally talking little about himself except to those he’s close with, and even then a bit reluctantly. He’s fond of reading and even more fond of animals and dragonkin, becoming more visibly upset when one of them is injured than he would for a human. He is most fond of canines.
Megumi believes that the world is horribly unfair and that being a rider would allow him to protect those good people and give them a chance to live. He doesn’t consider himself a hero for this, rather, it is duty to do what he can to protect others. He’s not above screwing over bad people for the sake of those who truly deserve good things. He’ll often try to do things on his own in consideration for the safety of others and needs to be reminded that teamwork makes the dream work. He doesn’t consider himself a leader, but is more than capable of taking charge when it counts.

HISTORY:
A long time trader, Toji had spent much of his life traveling across Pern without a care in the world. Looking out for number one, he had no thoughts about settling down until he met Risave, a Weaver he met at Fort Hold during one of the caravan’s many stops. Something about her captivated him. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but whatever it was, he stayed at the hold for her, married her, and barely a turn and a half later baby Megumi was born.
Despite his infatuation with Risave, Toji was an inattentive father, spending little if any time with his son. Though he tried at first to get his father’s attention, Megumi quickly gave up, preferring to spend his time and energy with his mother. Toji had saddled himself with a significant responsibility, but as time passed and his desire for his wife waned, the desire to travel reignited in his heart. One late winter morning after Megumi turned four Toji left without a word, leaving his wife and son behind. Risave was inconsolable for a time, and it was only Megumi's need for his mother that kept her from wallowing in her grief.
In the wake of this betrayal, Risave found the need for a change; bidding her family farewell, she took Megumi to Fort Weyr to settle into a new life. Megumi found himself fascinated with the dragons and whers, while his mother became fascinated with one of the healers, Dinera. It was love at first sight and seemingly in no time at all they became a family unit, with Megumi gaining a sister in Dinera's daughter Tsumiki. Wanting to welcome the young boy properly, Tsumiki presented him with a canine puppy of his own, a scraggy thing Megumi proudly named Jade.
Growing up at the Weyr, Megumi got into more than a few scraps with children he didn't like, bullies and such, those who were mean because they thought they were better than everyone else. He was no angel either, being more than a bit of a brat to his mothers and sister. He hated to see them upset, however, and would more than once come to them with a somewhat reluctant apology. He grew out of this behavior as his mid teens (and candidacy) approached. He wanted badly to stand and even more badly to Impress, and he conceded that being a troublemaker wouldn't get him there.
The second he turned fifteen he jumped at the chance for candidacy and threw himself into it, waiting for just the right hatching and his dragon.
