Shulk had medium length, shaggy blond hair that does down past his ears. He had very pale skin as well and has a somewhat thin appearance. He tends to wear sweaters for his normal wear and longer pants. While he will switch out the pants for shorts if he's working, he will often wear a sweater. He usually has a smile on his face.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Shulk tends to be a friendly person. He's usually quiet and tends to be reserved. He doesn't really like to make a scene and he's alright with not being spoken to. He will go out of his way to help people, though, such as helping fellow candidates study and understand material they learn during lessons. He is also a quick thinker, working good under pressure. Because of this, he is able to make decisions quickly when he needs to.
However, he shares the same flaw his father has: he's a workaholic. He tends to become obsessive when he is working on something, regardless if it's a personal project or a gift for someone. When he is in this state, he tends to lose track of time rather quickly. He could spend his entire break time and even longer working on a project. He prefers to be working and, if he can't work, he tends to think about what to do next for his project. However, because of this, he tends to miss deadlines quite a bit and needs to be reminded so he doesn't forget an important one.
Along with this, he finds it hard to say what's on is mind. He doesn't like to make people upset, so he tends to hide any negative comments he has to himself. This includes hesitating to tell those in charge if anyone is causing problems.

As long as Shulk could remember, it had just been him and his dad. They had lived in Ista Weyr his entire life. His father, a wherhandler named Zanza, was a prideful man who seemed to only care about his career and position at times. The two shared a friendly relationship, though Shulk was a lot closer to his uncle, Dickson.
This wasn't to say Shulk didn't have a bad childhood. He made a lot of good friends and enjoyed playing with them. Even as a child, Shulk seemed to enjoy working with his hands. Some of his friends were discussing apprenticeships coming up and one of them mentioned becoming a smithcrafter. Shulk was interested in it and, after a while, asked his father if he could apprentice as one. Zanza thought it was fitting for his son and helped him find a mentor. He even joked about Shulk and Dickson were similar, as Dickson had wanted to be a smithcrafter as a kid too.
He really enjoyed his apprenticeship years, studying well until he turned the age of fifteen. Like a lot of his friends, they had decided they wanted to become candidates. After all, living in the weyr allowed for them to start studying right away. Shulk hesitated a bit, but eventually became a candidate as well with them. After all, his uncle and father both told him he could continue his apprenticeship if he aged out of becoming a dragonrider.
Shulk spent three years at Ista Weyr, studying as a candidate. It really wasn't too remarkable for him, but he didn't mind that. After all, he already had a backup plan if he didn't impress to a dragon. However, in early 2770, his father had seemed to grow tired of living in Ista Weyr. He had decided to transfer to Fort Weyr.
While Shulk could have stayed at Ista Weyr, he decided not to. During the late fall of 2770, he transferred to Fort Weyr and met another candidate named Alvis. He didn't know why, but he really liked Alvis.
