FULL APPEARANCE:
Audrey is, at a glance, attractive by conventional standards; she stands unimpressively short, with delicate features and a wide, full mouth, but there's something about the shape of her eyes that suggests the woman is glaring. The prettiness of her face has a sullen quality to it, every smile tinged sardonic, every eyeroll exaggerated as though she cannot believe the travails she must endure.
Her hair is a pale brown that contrasts her skin, cut short like a man's but undeniably feminine. The woman must darken her lashes, though she'd hotly deny it if asked. The eyes in their shadow are a striking shade of hazel, verging golden-green in certain light, though the glows reveal them more dull than the sunlight.
She favors reds and golds, though her coloring might be better suited by jewel-toned greens and blues. Her clothes are simple, but finely made. The material is quite average, but at a closer glance one can see scattered embroidery that's utterly wasted on plain linen. Beneath her outfit, the woman seems terribly small, almost frail... right up until her chest. It's an obvious source of back pain -- perhaps the reason behind her terrible attitude?
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: In two words?
'Not great'
Audrey is a petty, unkind woman. She's quick to find flaws in others, and even quicker to use those flaws to her advantage, and if she's not mean for meanness's sake... she has a chip on her shoulder that all but guarantees she's going to feel threatened in any given situation. At the core of her, she's afraid, but getting her to admit it would be like catching a sand-snake while wearing mittens. She secretly longs for safety and security while unwittingly sabotaging every chance she has to have it, her own worst enemy -- which is saying a lot, because she makes enemies like a draybeast makes road-apples.
Aside her interpersonal inabilities, she's a very focused, observant woman with a need for orderliness and precision. She hates to be unclean, and in particular, can't stand to have dirt beneath her nails. She's sharp at memorization, quick to learn small skills that involve her hands: she would have made a brilliant Tailorcrafter, except for that she burnt that bridge and then spat on its ashes, giving it the finger on her way out the door.
She doesn't tend to be good at making friends, though she's paradoxically quite confident in her people skills. She believes herself to be more competent than she is in that regard, and if the feedback she receives from others is that she's unpleasant to be around, then the fault must lie within them, not her. By insisting every failure is a ploy to play those around her to some hidden agenda, Audrey never needs to face the deeply buried fear that she really is just impossible to love. That would be ridiculous.
HISTORY
FAMILY:
Master Tailor Aldran - Father
Tailor Journeyman Librey - Mother
[CW: Neglect] Born to an ill-advised affair between a Master Tailor and a highly accomplished Journeyman, Audrey came into the world used as collateral damage to a relationship that could never have lasted; Aldran was brilliant, but wedded to his work and was possessed of the tendency to demand perfection of those around him. Librey was... well. Hot.
She was also fickle and ambitious, and none too interested in playing the role of 'mother'. Instead, Audrey spent her childhood raised with the Hold Steward's brood and other Crafter children, the daughter of a master crafter but not of a stable pairing between two capable caretakers. Her mother was negligent, neither harsh nor loving. Audrey would have benefited from any kind of parental discipline and explanation of how her actions were harming herself and others, but she got none, largely only paid attention to by either parent when she was being used as a tool to harm the other.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: None
BIRTHPLACE: Kadross Hold
HISTORY:
[CW: Bullying] Audrey's parents were unmistakably talented Tailorcrafters, and had her mother not gotten tangled up in Craft politics (including earning the antipathy of Audrey's Master Crafter father,) she certainly would have attained Masterhood herself, but instead ended up leaving the Craft Hall proper to serve at Kadross Hold as the Lady Holder's personal Tailor.
This left Audrey in an unusual place as a Master Crafter's child, sort of since she wasn't exactly acknowledged, but neither was it denied. She was raised alongside the children of the Stewards and other Crafters, adjacent to the Holder's brood but still set apart. The Holder's eldest daughter was around Audrey's age, and the two formed a considerable animosity for one another, resulting in the other girl roundly trouncing Audrey in every aspect of adolescent hierarchy. Audrey, already abrasive and not nearly as clever as she believed herself to be, ended up a pariah. Not that her mother noticed or cared; it was only at seventeen turns that Librey seemed to remember her daughter might need parenting and direction in life. So she sent her away, obviously.
Having shown talent for her parents' craft, she was finally Apprenticed much too late for the daughter of such prolific artisans; she proved to be a tempestuous student, prone to feel easily slighted, and no one wanted to deal with her runner-shit. Though she learned readily enough, Audrey found herself frustrated and surrounded by children: not an ideal combination. She ended up pitting the children against one another, ultimately ostracizing the well-loved son of a Master Weaver for her own amusement and getting removed from her Apprenticeship as a result.
Her father pulled a string to get her placed at High Reaches Hold to do petty repairs, and there she had begun to try to integrate into Hold Life before she was Searched for a Candidate... though it might have had something to do with how outrageously she flirted with the Searchrider. That's just what the rumors claim, though.
