PLAY-BY: Original Art
FULL APPEARANCE:
Lau'ren is a relative modest looking individual. Nothing on his form seems out of the ordinary, making him look rather average, despite being quite strict on himself to keep in shape and always be in good form. His facial features aren't very sharp, still retaining a 'roundness' along his chin, jaw area and eyes - something he is a bit embarrassed about when it's noted. His hair is quite soft and fluffed and always kept in a casual style, generally whatever he can manage by combing fingers through. Lau'ren enjoys looking well-kept and presentable with his attire as much as his features, but not vainly so. He favors long tunics and thick belts, matched with shoulder coverings like capes or similar items. Not very convenient for his profession but he manages, even going to the point of looping his belt over the cape to keep in secure when on dragon-back. In general, he likes to dress like a medieval prince/noble with intention.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Lau'ren tries his very best to be seen as a good and thoughtful individual. In his teens, he used to be much more stuck-up and arrogant about himself and his lot in life, but has since mellowed in his turns as a dragon rider. He wants to be seen as someone reliable and trustworthy, and tries to offer his best services given his position. Having once been embarrassed bonding to a blue, it no longer phases him, simply happy to be a dragonrider and doing his part.

Polite and soft-spoken, Lau'ren always tries to be the shining example of a gentleman. He speaks with respect and tries to keep to the appropriate manners. It had always been his ambition to be like heroes in the Harper's stories. In his younger days, it was his desire to be recognized for fighting prowess and death-defying acts of bravery, so that he could be rewarded and commended for such things. By comparison, his adult countenance merely wishes to fulfill the helpful and serving parts of the role. A mere thank-you is more than enough, and even if he doesn't receive it, that's fine too!

Due to this, Lau'ren has developed a very strict sense of protocol and honor to hold himself to. Sometimes he can be 'too helpful', going well out of way to be of service, even if it's a huge detriment to himself and the person he's trying to repay. (Ex. He will try to help with a chore or task that he is wholly unqualified to handle and may end up causing more work)He's also very serious on replaying favors and good deeds others have helped him with. As expected, it can make him come off as annoying or 'obsessive'. Very rarely will he be swayed by a polite 'you don't have to' or 'this is unnecessary'. He won't be satisfied until he feels he re-payed the kindness properly, which can vary from helping with work to offering lavish gifts with his own marks or through trade.

While in his youth he thought too much of himself, now it seems he doesn't always think of himself enough. Regardless, Lau'ren simply acts on the main desire to be a good and useful person in the world.

HISTORY:

Lau'ren started life simply, under his original name of Lamuren, but with lofty ambitions. Being the first born in his family, it was expected of him to make a name for himself. Now while his parents were only hoping for him to either make it into a valuable trade or become a dragonrider, Lamuren took it much farther. Charmed by tales of heroes and dragonriders, he was determined to not only become one, but bond to nothing less than the mightiest bronze. (Were it viable at the time to bond to Gold, he would have aimed there, but Bronze was just as great.)

Though many tried to curb his expectations, not quite telling him he was unworthy, but perhaps simply to get him to expect other paths to follow, Lamuren would not be swayed. By the time he was 10, he made it a mission to try and make himself known to any dragon and rider that visited the Hold. Whether they were searchriders or not, he was determined to make an 'impression', hoping that the moment he turned of age, he would be picked for candidacy. Spurred by his actions, his own siblings couldn't help but follow in his steps, all won on the idea that they'd all be chosen as riders someday.

Eventually, the fabled day came. Right at the start of his 16th Turn, a searchrider visited the Hold and told him what he had known all along: he had what it took to be a dragonrider. What Lamuren didn't expect, was that the dragon said the same for his slightly younger sister. Now, Lamuren wasn't against his siblings following in his paved path; perish the thought. He was merely a bit upset that his sibling was following so close behind him, to the point it seemed to be taking away from the glory solely meant for himself. It hardly mattered, Lamuren told himself. So long as he impressed first and got his bronze, everything would be on track, as expected. While he loved his sister, he was quite sure she would be unqualified for a Gold, and would most likely pair to a green or some other suitable color. Surely there was honor there for her.

Assured in this thinking, Lamuren found he even liked the idea of being a candidate with his sibling, and off to Igen Weyr they went. Lamuren had been told it wasn't always expected to Impress right away, but he was fine with waiting. So long as he was there and eventually got a Bronze, and would be praised and commended and honored for it - all would be well. He and his sister did have to wait, a few Turns (3), but it was well worth it. A number of eggs cracked and produces a trove of lovely dragons of varied colors in one particular Hatching, but at first glance, Lamuren assumed none were for him again. Especially, when a plucky blue bound over his way. Surely the little one was just 'browsing'.

The dragonet was Blue, he was skinny and strangely shaped, with a large bump upon his back and a bulbous face with protruding little fangs – positively meant for someone else. Lamuren turned his eye, assuring himself the dragonet would wander elsewhere to a more appropriate candidate. The young teen looked to the others eggs, hopeful, just as a bronze appeared; large and magnificent and everything he hoped it would be. The massive creature turned and moved his way, only to go past and do something that made his eyes widen in horror. The bronze boldly went right to his little sister and made his choice. Lamuren was utterly heartbroken... even moreso when a voice suddenly cut into his thoughts, and he found the funny blue sitting before him, looking expectant and overjoyed.

'Lau'ren! You came for me! I feel I was waiting a lifetime for you!!'

He had impressed a Blue, his sister had gotten the Bronze, and the world practically fell apart before his eyes. Lamuren, or Lau'ren now, was silent as he led his dragonet, Blue Cedrateth, off the Sands. He was silent as he fed and cleaned his new lifemate. He was silent through the feast and silent as his classmates congratulated and basked his sister in copious amounts of praise. (They congratulated him and the blue as well, but he was simply too dreary to notice). Now, while Lau'ren wasn't exactly angry at Cedrateth, knowing full well it was not the Blue's choice of his color, it was still upsetting. Everything he'd hoped and planned in life was up in ashes. As much as the good-spirited dragon tried to cheer him, Lau'ren felt like everything was toppling, that he'd made such a show of being so grand and mighty... and the two of them were designated to lower ranks. An insignificant pair in the grand scheme of life, not really meant for anything but roster numbers.

As the days passed and the new batch of weyrlings got accommodated, Lau'ren found life was becoming unbearable. Too embarrassed and too ashamed to face his class, his sister, and her bronze, Lau'ren was desperate to go elsewhere. The moment he could, and Cedrateth was full grown, the two made to go to High Reaches upon graduation. There was no reason in particular he chose there; other than it was far and it was unknown to him. Unfortunately, while he and Cedrateth would escape the 'shame' of being with their classmates, the two did not account for Lau'ren's sister finding out and also planning to transfer with them. Worried for her sibling and the new state of mind he constantly seemed to be in, she didn't want him to go off on his own. Lau'ren was utterly annoyed at first, and made to deny her or change his own plans, but prompting from Cedrateth made him reconsider. As unreasonable as his expectations for this were, he was reasonable enough in mind enough to know he probably would grow to miss his sibling. It was not her fault and he did enjoy the familial company, so he assumed the change in location would help enough. (This should be roughly 2763)

While the transfer was successful and relatively smooth, Lau'ren, unsurprisingly, found the change in mood was not immediate for him. Frankly, he was unsure how to feel about suddenly being in a location where metallic dragons and whers were not automatically atop the chain of command. He supposed it should have pleased him, since it meant he and Cedrateth were on the same level as his sister and her bronze. Neither of them seemed to care like he did on the matter as well, so everything should have been fine and acceptable. Except... that Lau'ren still had trouble letting go and accepting.

With the move and upstart of everything, Lau'ren felt he had no right to say anything and chose to dive into work and tasks. Cedrateth was naturally worried for his rider and tried to uplift his spirits. Still, the dragon was happy they were being productive and useful compared to simply wallowing and running away. It was not fixing things, but it was a step in a better direction. With this distracted type of mindset, it soon led the two to trouble one late afternoon. Not minding the strong gusts of wind that day, Lau'ren and Cedrateth end up crashing during a flight, leaving the Blue injured. While not permeant, he is unable to take flight or send for help to the Weyr. When the two are confronted by outside beasts, seeing the opportunity for an easy meal, the two assume this to be their fate. All on part because of distraction and self-wallowing. Lau'ren and Cedrateth are, however, spared due to a sudden encounter with a 'wild' wher. Brown and ruthless, he dispatches the threat and makes himself a meal, which seemed to be his initial intention. As the wher does not respond to either of them with mental words, Lau'ren assumes they'll be next. However, the wher instead mentally nudges them in the proper direction of High Reaches, and the moment they could properly send for help for themselves, the wher wandered off.

Being alive was certainly much better, and the event helped put things into real perspective for Lau'ren. It was only back at the Weyr did he realize the graveness of his selfish actions. That his horrid thoughts had put Cedrateth in real danger and possibly would have ended both of them. He found no matter how bad his embarrassment got afterwards, none of it mattered.

He had his life, he had his dragon, his sister and her bonded, and he could have a purpose that was just as important and honorable as his sibling. It was then, that Lau'ren vowed to be a much better person; for his Blue and for everyone else. He would be helpful and encouraging, and he wanted to be someone that everyone in the Weyr wanted to come to for help. He and Cedrateth would be exemplary riders, better than the ones from the stories he loved as a child. It was a long and hard path, but Lau'ren kept to it, through many turns after.

Lau'ren did eventually get over his unwarranted jealousy of his sister. It took a lot of patience and better mentality, but the rider grew to appreciate and enjoy his place in life. Cedrateth, too, grew into a much more confident dragon, proud of his color and rider.

UPDATES
  • Threadfall 2774 -Cedratath collides with Eskalith. His right wingsail is torn in the crash, and he breaks a couple ribs in the none-too-pretty landing (Major). Lau'ren is somehow unharmed.

BASICS

NAME: Cedrateth
BIRTHDATE 2761
AGE: 12 as of 2773

APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 34ft
HEIGHT: 8ft (At shoulder, 9-10ft to bump)
WINGSPAN: 51ft
COLOR: Blue
HEX CODE: (#7a92b4)
FULL APPEARANCE:

Token: 2021 Audit Minor Trait Token - Back Bump

Cedrateth is a slightly unusual looking dragon. While he has nothing too outlandish, there is a noticeable bump between his shoulder blades and wings. This doesn't impede him in anyway and his rider personally likes it to sit upon his back during flight. With a large lower jaw and protruding teeth, he can look a bit fierce. With blue hues varying from dark to light, he'd covered in intricate patterns as well as a unique patterned mark on various parts of his body.

PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Like his rider, Cedrateth is a polite and humble dragon. He tries to be the voice of reason, to always offer assistance, and be a comfort with a warm voice. He takes his duties with the utmost serious air, and is not above bowing his head to others to show respect. He is a very practical dragon, willing to say the hard things even if it is painful. Though, at times it is hard for him to speak up to those that outrank him. The issue would have to be quite severe.

Cedrateth is always about the end-means and what is for the greater good. However, he tends to be more favorable to individuals compared to an overall outcome, as it is easy for him for form attachments. (Ex. He would try to do whats good overall for a small group compared to say the entirety of the weyr/Pern). He is also not a very skilled fighter, serving better as a speedy pair of wings, and has great admiration to those that are. He is not above gushing to others about such things, even his own rider. And, while Cedrateth isn't as intense concerning repayments as his rider is, the Blue very rarely tries to curb the Lau'ren's pursuits. Afterall, who doesn't enjoy receiving gifts and well-wishes?
