FULL APPEARANCE: Tall and lean, Tomoriin has the physique of a sprinter, more used to relying on speed and agility over pure strength, a fact that sometimes leads to him being underestimated in a fight. But don't be fooled: he's got lean muscle and knows exactly how to move to get the advantage. When he moves, it's with purpose and deliberation, and when he doesn't, he seems remarkably still and intent on whatever he's doing - no fidgeting for Tomoriin!
His black hair is kept short and tidy, as professional-looking as possible, and he's uninterested in styling it. Tomoriin has rather large blue eyes which can be quite expressive... except that expression is usually one of impatience or disinterest. It's hard to imagine Tomoriin smiling, although it does happen when everything's going as it should be and life is in order. His clothes are all in neutral colours, the natural result of undyed leather and cloth. Tomoriin also has some rather notable scars across his right shoulder, long claw marks from a spotty attack.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Cool, calm, and collected, Tomoriin doesn't rattle easily, and he much prefers to watch and wait rather than rush into action. It's not hesitation or uncertainty, though: it's pure caution. Tomoriin won't do anything until he's completely ready and completely certain it's the right thing to do. And it's no good trying to hurry him along or convince him he needs to act more swiftly. He'll completely ignore anyone who tries to do this, or else silence them with a swift "shh". He doesn't have much patience for people that interrupt him, but then, he also doesn't have much time for people in general. It's not contempt or dislike, however, just indifference. They're irrelevant. However, Tomoriin is a little arrogant in the way he assumes that his way of doing things is the best way, and that anyone who talks a lot is only doing so to fill some kind of emptiness within themselves.
Tomoriin is highly goal-oriented. He focused on the task ahead of him, not wishful thinking, and tends to get along best with other people that want to get the job done. As such, he doesn't seem to have much sense of fun, or anything even vaguely resembling a social life. He doesn't see the point in parties or gatherings, and the only people he considers 'friends' are those he considers sensible and reliable. Most people wouldn't consider that much of a friendship at all, but Tomoriin does. After all, what higher praise could he ever give than seeing someone as good to work with?
While Tomoriin isn't exactly antisocial or uncommunicative, it's clear he's more comfortable with discussion that relates to the task at hand. He'll be more than happy to discuss guard rotations and patrol routes for hours on end, but utterly uninterested in talking about anyone's social life. He maintains a collection of pebbles he finds interesting, but this also isn't something he discusses very often, unless it should somehow be relevant to the situation he's dealing with.
One might think that such a hard-working man wouldn't get along with a wher who prefers to stand on the sidelines, but Tomoriin actually finds Tomosk to be a worthy teammate, someone who won't distract him with pointless chatter or push him into activities that aren't good uses of his time. When Tomosk gets involved, Tomoriin knows it's for good reason, so he should pay attention. And they do at least share that same sense of being better than those around them.

BIRTHPLACE: Ista Hold
HISTORY: Born in Ista Hold to a baker and a seamstress, Tomoriin grew up surrounded by a large and busy extended family. It was noisy and chaotic, and Tomoriin handled this by growing into a calm and unshakeable individual, rather than becoming overwhelmed by it all. The more disorder there was around him, the more he sought for some degree of control, even if that only came in the form of finding small pieces of order amidst the chaos. It was also hard to get a word in edgeways when someone else was always talking, but as he grew older, Tomoriin recognised most of it for what it was: everyone chattering in the vain hope of being heard, except when everyone was doing it, nobody was listening. He learned more by watching quietly.
And mostly what he learned was that he didn't actually like the chaos. By the age of ten, Tomoriin had gotten into the habit of exploring the Hold alone, if only to get some peace and quiet, while also observing everything else that was going on. He spent some time with the guards, fascinated by their duties around the Hold, and he strongly considered signing up. But in the end, he became a runner, taking messages around the Hold and to nearby cotholds. It gave him a lot of quiet, peaceful time on his own, no need to worry about anything but the path ahead of him.
When he was eighteen, he needed to run a message to the nearby Ista Weyr, and he was immediately drawn to Weyr life: so much more orderly than in the Hold, and with a much smaller population as well. They didn't have a lot of use for a runner within the Weyr itself, since so many people had access to dragons or firelizards, but there were people in the Hold who needed messages and letters taken there, so Tomoriin took every opportunity he could to visit the Weyr.
At the age of twenty, Tomoriin opted to transfer to the newly established Semaca Weyr, getting a lift with a rider heading in that direction. While they didn't really need a runner either, due to its small size, that was also what made it appealing: hardly any people. So he pitched in and helped around the Weyr, because people with a good work ethic who could stay focused on a task were useful anywhere.
When he was twenty-three, Tomoriin was injured in a spotty attack in the lands near the Weyr, and while he recovered from the wounds with some scars but no permanent damage, it really highlighted just how dangerous Semaca Weyr was. Once he had recovered, he signed up to become a wher candidate.
After two Turns, Tomoriin received an egg from garnet Owazesk's clutch, in fact the first egg of the clutch, which hatched into large blue who took the name Tomosk. They didn't always get along at first, since Tomoriin's hard-working nature didn't exactly mesh easily with Tomosk's preference for watching and observing, but over time they found their differences served their purposes. They were both quiet and observant, both disinterested in the socialising others seemed to need, and Tomosk settled into the role of 'supervising' everything Tomoriin did. It worked surprisingly well.
One thing they both agreed on was the pirates. They were trouble, and dealing with them was going to end badly for Semaca sooner or later. Tomoriin knew from experience that criminals couldn't be trusted. So once he and Tomosk graduated Wherling training and were assigned to the Weyr Guard, they resolved to keep an eye on the pirates, just in case. They wouldn't neglect the defence of the Weyr from other threats, of course, they just... weren't going to blindly trust those pirates.
