- With skin just a little too dark to be called tan, Wysril has a rather long face and a prominent chin. His brown hair is very curly and cut shorter on the sides than on top in a way that emphasizes his slightly oversized ears. His eyebrows are a shade or two darker than his hair and rest above expressive blue eyes. He has a straight nose and his lower lip is notably fuller than his upper one. Wysril is only a little above average height and delicately built, with a light, lithe frame. He enjoys wearing bright colors but usually does so in a way where they complement each other, or in conjunction with more neutral shades to make the colors really pop.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
- Left on his own, Wysril is outgoing, playful, and adventurous. He wants to go places and do things, and while there isn’t a lot of going places involved in being a wherhandler at least Fort Weyr is more of “somewhere” than the cothold where he was born.
He’s also something of a coward. Wysril does not want to lead, does not want to put himself or Wysrisk in any sort of political position, and he does not want to risk abnormal danger. He’s fine with the normal everyday sort of danger that comes with being a wherhandler. He can handle fighting Thread and guarding the Weyr. But, for example, when the tensions between the traditionalists and progressives led to trouble, he waited until the last possible second to choose a side and even then stuck his neck out as little as possible.
Wysril does love his family, but he has not bothered to go home to see them even once since he took off for Fort Weyr and Impressed Wysrisk. He writes. Sometimes. When he remembers to, which isn’t that often. He also lets Wysrisk walk all over him much of the time, which is fine by her but probably not the best behavior for a wherhandler.

BIRTHPLACE: Cothold beholden to Fort Weyr
HISTORY:
- The oldest child of a couple at a cothold beholden to Fort Weyr, Wysril was followed into life by three younger sisters and a younger brother, with a girl being the baby of the family. The family lived a simple life, and it was assumed for a time that Wysril would take over the running of the cothold from his father when the time came.
What the family didn’t count on was Wysril’s itch for adventure. There were only so many paths to fulfill that, short of running off to join a traveling caravan, and so at barely eighteen Wysril wound up at Fort Weyr, where he signed himself up as a wher candidate.
He Impressed with startling speed, literally days after arriving at the Weyr. He was handed the first egg in the small clutch and partnered with Green Wysrisk. She hatched quickly, her egg splitting cleanly, and she was obviously strong. It wasn’t until after he blooded her and formed their bond that he realized she was blind.
Not that Wysrisk let that stop her, nor even slow her down. She had other senses, thank you very much, and she was perfectly capable of borrowing Wysril’s eyes if she needed to. She refused to admit to any trouble she might have had in keeping up with her clutchmates.
About a turn after Wysrisk hatched, the traditionalists of the Weyr rallied in response to the Hold installing a democracy, and placed a bronzerider to lead an upper wing. That didn’t seem quite right to Wysril and he decided that he needed to keep his head down Wysrisk didn’t agree; she was stubbornly of the opinion that if things were going down they should be in the middle of them. This led to more than one argument between handler and wher, as to whether they should try to keep out of things or take a side.
Eventually they do take a side, although it is arguably at the last possible moment. When Z’osh places Tuckal and a great many ‘non-traditional’ riders under house arrest, Wysril found himself flailing as he tried to find some way to help the progressive faction. He was not made for politics, and he was relieved when Tuckal put things back in their proper order.
Things calmed down after that, and as the turns passed Wysril started to contemplate putting himself forward for a second wher. He broaches the subject with Wysrisk, who grumpily refuses to offer an opinion. He puts the thought to the side, distracted by riders from the past appearing, and he does not revisit the idea for several turns.
Recently, Wysril has brought the idea of bonding a second wher up to Wysrisk again, and she informed him in no uncertain terms that it was up to him. Nervously, Wysril took that for permission.
Around the same time, Wysril’s youngest sister Mertera was Searched. Now seventeen, Wysril hadn’t seen her since she was eight. They’ve got a lot of catching up to do, but he’s eager to do it.
