Our First Day - Elle and Blue Tredjeth
--------------------
Here I am, this is me
I come into this world so wild and free
Here I am, so young and strong
Right here in the place where I belong
So.. this was the last time she would see this room, no longer a candidate, but a fully fledged weyrling. It still felt surreal, but she needed only to look on her bed behind her, to the stunning blue sleeping on a pile of pillows and spare blankets, all bathed and oiled and his head resting on a rather fluffy pillow. It was her favorite pillow, one of the few things she had been left from her mother and it was important to her. Normally she didn't let any of her companions, Aelius the firelizard or Munin the crow on it. However.. Tredjeth was a baby and a big one at that. She was not okay just letting him lay on a less than soft surface right now. Baby dragon scales were probably fairly soft after hatching she assumed, at least as soft as one could imagine dragon hide being. But their bond was solid enough that she felt the hum of him in her mind like a constant song lightly stuck in the back of her head, always there. But it was not in a way that caused her to feel out of place or startle her as much as she thought it would.
Packing away her clothing into a small container she had borrowed from her brother, she folded her favorite shirt and placed it inside the box. It was then she heard soft cheeps and turned around to see her firelizard curling on the left side of Tredjeth, not touching the dragon but close enough that he could watch him, was Aelius. Thankfully for her, he was being very calm about this new member of their little family. Munin was perched on the bedpost, dutifully watching over firelizard and dragon both. She was not too surprised by this, Munin had always been quite the watch bird.
As she folded a few blankets, she came across an older blue one. Staring at it for a moment, she pondered. This was the blanket that E'tin had bought for her when she was much younger, doing many extra chores to earn the marks. It was blue.. a soft powerdry blue. It was also one of her most precious possessions and she had made sure it was well taken care of over the years. A sudden sensation of chill made her shiver, until she realized it was not her that was cold. Looking at Tredjeth, she noticed him curling in more on himself, shivering. Looking at what was in her hand and her dragon, the choice made itself. Getting up with the blanket in hand, she decided packing could wait a few minutes.
Reaching her bed, she gently sat down and took the time to tuck the blanket in around him, careful to not pin his wings and tail down in case he wanted to get up. Unable to resist as she gazed at her dragon, her fingers slid along his small head, along his headknobs and he made a content sound that reminded her of a house cat. Did dragons purr? She was not sure but she would just refer to that for this sound for now. She could not keep the smile from crossing her face. " I hope that is better. Sorry Tredjeth, I just have to finish packing up my things to move to our new quarters." She whispered softly then remembered she could have just thought it and her dragon would hear her. That was going to take some adjusting to.
She felt bad a moment later when his eyes opened up and he looked at her, his voice caressing her mind, it was a rather pleasant sound. " I did not mean to trouble you, mine. I would have been alright. However, I am not complaining about this.. blanket? It is.. soft.. warm." He replied and reaching through his rider's mind he seen some images, and got the idea of why humans used these, like a second hide to warm themselves. He also understood this object was important to his rider and thus was careful with his claws as he stretched out under the blanket and yawned. " Could I help? I don't feel right just laying here while you are doing all this work on your own." He replied, looking at Elle with a warmth in his gaze.
" No, that's alright. You rest up for now. We have a feast to go to shortly and you will need the energy then. Maybe when we get back from the feast, you and I can figure out the more permanent sleeping arrangement together. If you really don't want to sleep more, that is okay but just relax. I can handle this, I promise. That would make me the most happy." She replied, getting the sense her blue wanted to help but she truly did want him to rest. She imagined the feast would wear them both out after her long day prior and his... well.. being born.
Tredjeth hesitated for a moment but his rider had insisted he remain laying down so he did. His eyes watched her as she folded clothing and placed it in the container. As she finished packing, she sank on the floor, feeling the stress of the day melting over her, but she knew there was a feast to prepare for and she still had to get dressed, having gotten a chance to wash up while her dragon was safely sleeping. Sitting in the room, her side of it empty, as well as the fact she did not have roommate in here anymore, the reality and emotions she had been holding back at the hatching spilled out. Tears traced a hot trail down her cheeks and rained on her lap, some landing on the floor. She was trying really hard to grasp control again, knowing such things might overwhelm the mind of her bonded.
Tredjeth wiggled carefully from the blanket and slid down to the floor and padded softly over to Elle and stretched himself over her lap, tucking his head under her chin. " There there Elle.. its okay. Can I help?" He asked softly and a light chuckle came from her as her arms wrapped around her blue. " I'm okay.. just.. so happy you are here. I don't have the words to express it well enough but I really am very happy." She replied and then laughed through her tears and the two of them just sat there in the quiet of the room, while she got the emotional torrent out of her system. But there was a feast to prepare for and she wanted to look her best, more than she ever had before. This was a big moment.
She gently lifted her dragon from her lap and stood up, and looked in her mirror and pulled a pair of scissors from her sewing kit and grabbed her long ponytail and sliced the hair off, leaving her with her hair chin length and the tips curling a bit. " Farenth.. that is better. I swear I will never deal with long hair again." She grumbled and placed the hair into a small bag. Perhaps there could be something done with it later. Grabbing her box of things and tutting to Munin and Aelius, she started to the door. " Come on family, let's go see what our new quarters are gonna look like while we got time." She called and the firelizard settled on her shoulder and Munin decided to land on the back of her dragon, which spooked him for a second but he didn't shoo the bird off since it made no aggressive action. With that, the three of them went to her new room, and she was looking forward to the feast, in a way she never thought possible.. yet.. here she was. She was Elle of Blue Tredjeth, proud weyrling of Fort Weyr and she had family and friends to introduce her dragon to.
Here we are, we've just begun
And after all this time, our time has come
