Early Fall 2773, A Day Like Any Other
Warning: Mentions of vomiting, brief mention of menstruation, pregnancy
Ochako had been sick for days now, though only on a surface-level. Although she had no fever nor the associated chills, her stomach rejected food constantly. That, and she'd had the strangest cravings for things she didn't normally indulge in. Meat pies with sweet sauce, dried meat (but not brined!) with preserves... Her weyrmates looked on with worry each time she would suddenly burst from a conversation to empty her stomach, though she managed to keep them out of the loop until the fourth day when Uravith had finally shared with Koteth and Shimath, both of whom had taken on grey tones to their hides with concern from both themselves and their riders.
"You're sick! You should be resting!" came Eijirou's huff, picking her up to carry her to their shared bed despite her protests. She knew better than to argue with the two men once their minds were made up, however, and despite her complaints didn't try to rise from the furs. Katsuki looked on thoughtfully, his arms folded over his chest. She could tell he was annoyed that she'd been going about her daily routines without telling them of the problem. "Have you seen a healer?" he asked after some time, once Eijirou had finally stopped fussing over her and making sure she downed at least one mug of water.
Three sets of whirling eyes poked in through the narrow opening nearby, the trio's dragons wedged onto the ledge meant for two. For once, Shimath was grateful for her tiny stature.
"Yes," Ochako murmured, cradling the second mug as Eijirou bundled her up in blankets despite the warm summer day outside. "They gave me a tea mixture for the vomiting but it hasn't helped much..." She looked down into the water for a moment, then took another sip. Her belly felt full of water, but she knew if she didn't keep drinking that Eijirou would worry more.
Katsuki grunted, walking over to sit on the edge of the cot beside his weyrmates, arms still folded over his chest. After a few moments of silence, he looked over at the three dragons still trying to see in to see what their humans were doing firsthand. "When was Uravith's last flight?"
"Huh?" Ochako asked, blinking. After a few moments, she frowned, trying to recall. "About a month ago," came her answer, "Why?" It wasn't likely that Katsuki had forgotten, but he seemed to be piecing something together at the moment and wanted to confirm. They'd spent it together, the three of them, like they always did since becoming weyrmates.
"What about your last bleed?" he asked her, and her face turned crimson. "I-it's just a day late," she squeaked, embarrassed. Not unusual. It wasn't the first time they'd discussed such things, but she was always incredibly embarrassed by such personal topics. Katsuki and Eijirou both liked to keep preventional medicines and teas on hand for her to help her through her monthly cycle, so he definitely remembered that, too.
"I think we should take you to the healers again," he told her with a deep-set scowl.
"What's up, Katsuki?" asked Eijirou, suddenly looking worried, fussing with his hands now in lieu of bothering Ochako.
"I have an idea with what's up but we need to see a healer to confirm."
"What is it?" asked Ochako, now worried as well.
"We'll see if I'm right first." Katsuki's tone was firm, and he stood, turning to offer his hands to Eijirou and Ochako to help them to their feet.
Several hours later, the trio was back in Katsuki's weyr, pressed together in the bed he'd worked hard to save for. Large enough for the three of them to fit comfortably, even if they couldn't officially have the three of them rooming together. There just simply wasn't a way to arrange ledge-space for three dragons.
Both men had a hand on her stomach, and they all three talked in hushed, excited tones. She was with child. Their child. Katsuki had suspected given her symptoms, but having a healer confirm was just icing on the sweetroll. They'd have to arrange to have her temporarily transferred to the Healers' wing for now, maybe the Queens' wing if that didn't work, but soon they'd have a little bundle of joy to call their own.
