The Time is Now [Open]

The last few days had been quite a change for one young Candidate. Since coming to the Weyr, she had spent as much time as humanly possible not being in the Barracks. There were things to see, people to meet, situations to experience! Everything about this place had been brand new. But one of those new experiences, involving Firelizards and her dog trying to herd them to who knows where, had led to another and after a fantastic conversation with one of her new best friends, G'er had agreed to take her to Fort Hold to purchase a Firelizard egg of her very own! She had successfully talked herself out of trying to befriend one of the wild ones. They were too flighty and didn't honestly seem all that eager to leave their little swarm. Either way, Leeta had been shown the way to acquire one of her very own.

So it was that she had returned from Fort Hold the new proud owner of a beautiful fairly large Firelizard egg. Oh this was so exciting! The light pattern and coloring across the egg was quite appealing to her and had seemed to call her name when she had been choosing from the selection that the Egg salesman had shown her. Not a day went by that she didn't check on and tend to her egg. She kept it wrapped up and warmed to the best of her ability, checking on it many times a day, sitting with it, singing to it, talking to it... Heck it was likely she was driving her poor roommate batty. Then again perhaps not. Spin was an incredible roommate and she liked her very much. She did hope she felt the same. Lately, however, Leeta had been entirely focused upon the egg. She wasn't the only one either. There were a number of times that Leeta had walked into her room and found her crazy Telukah curled up asleep around the egg. It was clear that she wasn't the only one excited for the addition to their little family.

One afternoon, Leeta was tidying up her side of the room humming softly to herself when she heard something shift. Her eyes snapped up to look around. Did something get into her room when she wasn't looking? That's ok, Telukah would get it if it were some vermin or some such. But another similar shift was heard and her breath hitched as she looked to the little nest she had made for the egg. Another shake confirmed her thoughts and she gasped. "It's hatching... YES!
EVERYONE COME! IT'S HATCHING NOW! COME SEE!"
Ok so Flitters might not be the hugest excitement for everyone in the Weyr to know about, but this was most certainly one of the biggest things to Leeta right now and anyone who had spent any time around her the last couple days would likely have been told about the egg, seen the egg, heard all about her theories and hopes of what was coming out of the egg... But either way, it wasn't difficult to discern what Leeta was loosing her mind about this time.

Well it seemed that no one was quite as excited by this happening as Ledaliah happened to be. But that was well enough, her attention was soon very much taken up by the happenings here before her. Delicate cracks spidered across the shell of the egg and Leeta felt her heartrate rise to dangerous heights as she saw the egg shaking and wobbling precariously in it's little nest. She was not entirely alone, however. Telukah was standing at her side, his whole form tense and nose twitching eagerly. This was exciting to his girl, and he too was curious as to what was inside. It seemed they were both to find out very soon.

"Oh Tee it's going to be so soon-" Her sentence was quickly bitten off as the shell suddenly exploded in a fairly magnificent manner. Eggshells flew in all directions causing Leeta to duck even if it wasn't likely she'd be hurt by the flying pieces. As quickly as she had ducked, however, she stood up straight again letting out an absolute shriek of delight. The tiny creature inside was perfect... Amazing... Beautiful... Hungry! It keened in an unhappy manner causing Telukah to whine lightly. "Oh my gosh so right!" She reached into a little bowl nearby pulling out tiny chunks of meat before offering them carefully on a wide open hand to the tiny Firelizard. "You're so beautiful..." She crooned softly to the handsome little brown Flit as he eagerly accepted the food, winding lightly around Leeta's wrist as he downed the food bit by bit. Leeta continued to offer him meat cubes until his rate slowed a little, his eyes whirling with rainbows. Leeta gasped as the bond was made. Emotions flooded her young mind. Honestly that wasn't weird, she had a lot of emotions that were hers, but there were some that were not...

Just then Telukah gave an excited bark and the little Firelizard leaped from her hand to the end table, hissing in fury at the canine. He flared his wings making himself look as big as possible. Telukah flicked his ears back and snarled in response to the hostile response. He lunged in front of Leeta, knocking her back away from the clearly dangerous beast. The little Firelizard snarled and snapped at the canine and Leeta was hit by a burst of defensive energy. What was he defending? He was in no danger... It suddenly hit her... "Guys guys guys calm down!" Not likely the most intelligent move she'd ever made, but she quickly moved between the two angry creatures, placing her hand directly in front of each of their muzzles. They had been protecting... Her. She blinked in bafflement but both of them stopped and looked at her quizzically. She felt the confusion strong in her new bond with the little one and she scooped him up lightly. "See see?
This is Telukah... He's a friend."
She knelt down with the Firelizard who gave a soft warning hiss but calmed at Leeta's touch. Telukah's ears flicked forward as he sniffed the tiny Firelizard in a stilted manner. Ok this would take some work but it would be ok. She sat down on the ground beside Telukah, the little Flit scrambling down to perch on her knee, trilling softly to her. "What should we call you..." She mused softly as she stroked his head gently with a finger before grabbing another meat cube for him, and then another for Telukah. The little one ate his before curling up there upon Leeta's knee and starting to doze off a little now that the 'danger' had passed. "I think I'll call you Bass." She whispered softly as Telukah also lay down and pondered a nap. With a yawn, Leeta couldn't say she disagreed with this act and so with her new little friend impressed and satiated, the three of them drifted off for a well needed nap.
