In the day since Relli had Impressed Momo, she had learned three things about baby firelizards.

1. They were smaller than she had realized- smaller than anything that even vaguely a dragon had a right to be. They grew bigger, albeit still dwarfed by their wher and draconic counterparts.
2. Like most baby and hatchlings of all species, they spent most of the day asleep. The constant naps would taper off, at some as of yet unknown point in development- a day Relsk was already eagerly awaiting.
3. When not sleeping, they were eating, like the insatiable pits of hunger they were. Most of her children's flits had eventually settled into more reasonably paced appetites. Esther's little fair had not.

But there was more she didn't know about firelizard hatchlings than she did. The easiest way to learn more was clearly to speak to the one person she knew who had raised three of them. There was no substitute for first hand experience.

Which was why she was knocking on Esther's door, in the early candlemarks of the evening, after dragonriders' drills were ended and before wherhandlers' practice began. Momo slept peacefully in the crook of her arm, which she held carefully in place, to avoid jostling or disturbing the small green.

Winter had, thankfully, finally arrived. Esther couldn't say she was fond of the cold, but it did always come as a relief to finally have time to do the things she had been obliged to leave for another day through the busier seasons. There was time to mend her worn socks (however much she hated darning) and to patch the holes in her bed linens where an aggravated Little Monster had thrown a temper tantrum.

The three fire lizards were, thankfully, asleep. Slip and Sausage, who had both been evicted from her lap while she worked on the socks, were tangled up together on a pillow. Little Monster was a round ball under a blanket on her bed. None of the three made any move to get up at the sound of a knock on the door, though Sausage cracked one eye open to stare suspiciously at the source of the sound.

Esther frowned slightly as she got up, a little stiff after a couple of candlemarks hunched over her work. Visitors were far from a common occurrence for her, especially in the evenings. Not entirely unheard of, but not too far off of it. She opened the door, and her frown almost immediately changed to a smile as she saw who was there.

"Relli? I didn't expect--who is that?" she asked, her thought changing mid-stream as she noticed the tiny green fire lizard snuggled into the crook of the other woman's arm.
