Unfair [Tyto]

A large, hot, sandy cavern that opens to the sky. There are stone seats and large ledges for humans and dragons to come watch the events.

Unfair [Tyto]

It wasn't fair. Ista had donated their eggs to egg thieves, and a gold had hatched for an undeserving weyr. He didn't wish harm upon them--didn't recognize the importance of them filling their ranks for the sake of threadfall casualties--but shards, it seemed so unfair! Zar had moved to Fort as a direct response to the egg theft.

He was pleased that the wher hatching had gone well, though. He'd no interest in standing for another wher, but it was nice to see more whers join the ranks. He had his arms pleasantly full with Zarsk, and besides, he'd just finished his own wherlinghood. That was plenty for him.

Someone here, yup yup yup!! Zarsk startled him from his thoughts. The man turned his attention from the empty hatching grounds, where he stood wondering about the next clutch, towards Salihna. The new goldhandler. He offered her a smile. Gold whers were not worth distrusting, after all.

Hi! Am Zarsk. Am very friendly, yup yup! Baby wher and handler! Hello! she greeted, moving from her handler's side to go greet the new people.

"And I'm Zar," he added.

Wandering through the hatching grounds after Salihsk as the little wherlet explored the "dunes" for fun. Well--dunes to a baby wher, for Salihna they were barely sandy mounds. She'd spotted some shiny bits of shell-shards in the sand and demanded to go exploring. So far, they'd only found four little palm-sized pieces, and Salihsk was clearly getting tired. She was still only a few sevendays old, after all.

Looking over as a chipper Wher's voice announced the presence of another, she grinned and waved to them. Pocketing the egg-shards, she moved to scoop up her bundle of gold into her arms. Thoroughly distracted by the other handlers, said wherlet seemed to have little issue with being taken away from her increasingly-futile effort of finding shinies in the hatching sands.

"Hello!" she greeted cheerfully, closing the small distance between them. "Hello Zar, hello Zarsk!" She beamed, adjusting her hold on Salihsk so one arm supported her hindquarters, the other around her belly so she could rest her forelimbs against them and peer at the larger wher. "I'm Salihna, and this is Salihsk." Nice meet, darlings, Salihsk chirped, her eyes whirling with contentment. "Salihsk wanted to look for shiny things in the sands but they do a pretty good job of cleaning up after hatchings. What brings you guys here?"

Good meet! Nice wher, nice handler. Perhaps a friend? Zarsk was willing to take the risk, trusting the other two at face value almost immediately. Yup, yup, yup! These were good people, she could tell. Zar, however, raised an eyebrow. They were...looking for shiny things? Well, what did they expect to find that was shiny in the hatching grounds?

Still, he might as well answer the question. "I just came here to think. Mostly about High Reaches," he admitted. Egg thieves. Egg thieves who now had a gold who would probably turn out to be a second Golre. "It's unfair. Ista has clearly allied with them, as if they're trying to provoke us, and High Reaches is even worse." Maybe he shouldn't talk to anyone who would listen about it, but surely it wouldn't get him into trouble...right?

Maybe gold dragon friendly. Maybe High Reaches...accident-steal. Zarsk didn't sound too convinced of the latter. But...at Fort! Is good. No bad.

Salihna smiled at the green wher, not at all bothered by the strangeness of their situation. Looking for shiny things in the Hatching Grounds. There were plenty of things that were dropped, and some of the shards of egg shell were shiny enough for Salihsk's liking. It gave them something to do during their free time, though!

She tilted her head to the side a little, a little frown pulling onto her face. She had heard about High reaches, but sort of tried to really stay out of politics--it was just too much of a headache. Maybe as a gold wherhandler she'd have to deal with it someday--but definitely not today. "I dunno, hasn't everyone kinda been sharing eggs for a long time when they need help? I thought High Reaches has been trying to get someone to send them a Gold for a while?" She blinked, not really thinking Ista would side with Fort back then only to change their mind now. Then again, maybe their Weyrleaders were different. "Definitely not on board with the whole stealing thing, though. Maybe they didn't hear about it until after, or they couldn't go against it? Or they didn't want to start a fight with them..." There were a lot of reasons, though hailing from Istan territory she wanted to believe that her original patron Weyr wasn't doing anything shady.

Maybe things would turn out badly, but until then she'd remain optimistic.

Zarsk right. Fort good, Salihsk bobbed her head over her handler's arm in agreement. Silly problem, just need protect eggs better now. She paused a moment, considering. Put whers. Not afraid to bite tricky human.
