Fort's Weyrleaders are providing small tokens of recognition for some of Fort's riders and healers, for their bravery and service in the candidate rescue mission.

L'fy wasn't used to being praised. His exuberance and recklessness didn't often work out the way he hoped, and had clashed with the expectations of his wingleaders on more than one occasion. He was well aware of these shortcomings, and well aware that Dioth was the one between them with the level head, with the sense, and the one between them who had done all the work when it came to fighting off the whers. Dioth was the one who deserved to be recognized. Unfortunately, it was hard to make a small token that was dragon-sized, so L'fy understood why it was being given to him.

Still. "Dioth deserves this," L'fy said to those gathered. "He's the one who did all the work." He looked as serious as he possibly could, too.

We are nonetheless both honored, Dioth quickly assured any onlookers. We are a team, and we were pleased to be able to do our duty to the Weyr and the candidates. Privately, he chided L'fy. You know as well as I that I could not have gone to rescue the young ones without you. It is not a question of who did more work. You deserve that trinket as much as I, and are far more capable of accepting it. Please just accept it graciously on both our behalf.

For a moment, he thought - hoped - L'fy might do as he'd requested. But the man just shook his head. "Dragons do most of the work most of the time. So why is it that we only thank the riders when things go right?"

L'fy seemed like he was working himself up to make a truly embarrassing speech, so Dioth cut him off. I am honored my rider thinks my actions deserve such commendation, but there are others they wish to thank. Why don't we allow them to do so, L'fy, and then you may raise these concerns at a later date. L'fy scowled, but stepped back to allow the next person to be thanked and offered a token of gratitude. Dioth breathed a sigh of relief.

Dorian made sure that he was both present and presentable for Fort's recognition ceremony. No, better than presentable. Resplendent. That was a word he hadn't used in a while. Not a single drop of wine had touched his lips today. Fort deserved his best. Meguyakuth deserved better than his best. Today, being here, was for her, not him, not for his own vanity. Though both of them fought together, it was her valor that deserved recognition.

Meguyakuth thought otherwise, sitting as far from everyone else as she could, her eyes an uncertain yellow, keeping as much weight off her injured hind foot as she could. Though she said nothing, he could tell how uneasy she was. It wasn't her thing, to be recognized. But she needed it, Dorian felt. All she could think about was being forgotten in wake of her being injured, hiding her insecurities behind her front of being too aloof to care. Dorian understood what she felt better than most, well in advance of her choosing him that fateful day, but Turns since granted him greater insight.

L'fy made a good point, as Dorian observed from his place. Dioth countered it, of course, but it was a well-spoken piece regardless. Once he'd been presented his own token, which he accepted accordingly on both his own and Meguyakuth's behalf, Dorian took up a spot near L'fy. "Well said," he complimented, managing something close to his usual smirk, Meguyakuth looking on, quietly cautious. "I doubt I could've said it better myself, and I say everything best."

L'fy was struggling to sit still through the rest of the ceremony. He wasn't one for speeches, and he wasn't particularly close to anyone who was getting awarded recognition. It made it very difficult for L'fy to pay strict attention.

But then a greenrider started talking to him, and that gave him something else to focus on. "Oh! Thanks!" L'fy said, brightening in a little confusion at the compliment. He rubbed the back of his head. "I'm uh...not really much of a talker, so I'm glad you liked what I said." He laughed good-naturedly when Dorian sang his own praises, clapping him companionably on the back. "Well then, next time I'll let you do the talking! It seems silly to be the one making speaches when you actually do it better!"
